Insider view on Ambrosino as Celtic interest turns his head

The National07-07-2025
There is also strong interest in the Italy under-21 forward – who spent last season on loan with Frosinone – from Italian outfit Cagliari, but Celtic's bid to land him on a loan deal with an option to buy has piqued the interest of the 21-year-old.
That is the view of Italian journalist Stefano Sorce of DerbyDerbyDerby, who has likened Ambrosino to Spanish international striker Alvaro Morato due to his clean technical ability and willingness to drop off to link with his teammates.

'In terms of playing style and characteristics, Álvaro Morata would be a good comparison — especially the younger version of Morata during his early Juventus or Real Madrid days,' Sorce said.
'He is not a pure poacher. Instead, he likes to drop deep, link up with midfielders, and create space for teammates.
'He is tall, around 1.9m, but he is still agile and mobile. He uses both feet well, has a decent burst of pace, and is technically clean.
(Image: Getty Images) 'He's also dangerous in open play and on set pieces, and has good ball-shielding ability.
'Another good comparison would be with fellow Italian Giacomo Raspadori, who he shares some traits with, though he has a bit more physical presence and is slightly less explosive than his Napoli teammate.
'Ambrosino has already given his approval for a transfer to Cagliari, showing a clear preference for the Rossoblù club. However, recent interest from Celtic could change the scenario and might make him lean toward the Scottish club instead.'
Some of Ambrosino's other key qualities are sure to excite the Celtic support, and Sorce believes that if he should come to Glasgow, he will do so with a point to prove.
Having represented Italy at various youth levels, Ambrosino is looking to show that he can be a future striker for the Azzuri at full international level, and he sees this campaign as a crucial one in that regard.
'Ambrosino has represented Italy at several youth levels, including U19, U20, and U21,' he said.
'He contributed to Italy winning the U20 Elite League and scored at the U20 World Cup in Argentina, where Italy finished second.
'While it is probably still early for him to break into the senior national team, this upcoming season will be very important for his development and future chances.
'He is known for his technique and vision. Ambrosino is a technically skilled player with good first touch and game awareness, enabling him to be actively involved in offensive plays.
'He is also an excellent free-kick taker with a powerful and precise shot, while he effectively uses both feet, making him unpredictable for defenders.
'Despite his height, he is also agile and is good at shielding the ball.'

That rules out any interest in Nicolas Jackson, despite Chelsea being increasingly keen to find a taker for the Senegalese attacker. And any move may only be feasible if United can move on Rasmus Hojlund, preferably on a full-time basis rather than a Marcus Rashford-style loan. With United having spent £130m to give boss Ruben Amorim his two top targets - Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Old Trafford hierarchy do still want a line-leading upgrade. Selling Hojlund, and also commanding fees for Alejandro Garnacho and Antony would make meeting hefty price-tags more likely. Meanwhile, United have shelved their interest in Villa keeper Emi Martinez. A loan offer was made and rejected last week but the club's current position is that Andre Onana will start the season as first choice. And that means no move for Donnarumma, whose contract stand-off with PSG has opened up the prospect he might be available. Man Utd step up Ollie Watkins transfer as Aston Villa star becomes No.1 striker target

Manchester United have already bolstered their attack with the summer captures of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo but Ruben Amorim and Co still want to sign a new No 9 Manchester United are stepping up their bid to sign a striker before the start of the new season – with Ollie Watkins now their first-choice target. ‌ United boss Ruben Amorim wants a proven goalscorer to lead his side's attack, with Aston Villa and England striker Watkins seen as the ideal choice to fill the role. This summer United have adopted a policy of signing players with Premier League experience, as evidenced by the recruitment of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. ‌ United are continuing that strategy with a move for Watkins, but are understood to be unwilling to meet Villa's £60million valuation of the 29-year-old. ‌ There is hope among the United hierarchy that a compromise figure of £40m-£45m for Watkins can be reached with Villa and enable a deal to be struck between the two clubs. Watkins scored 17 goals last season, 16 in the Premier League, with Amorim wanting a striker who can go straight into United's team and start scoring regularly, without needing time to adapt. As well as Watkins, United are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, but the Bundesliga club want around £70m for him and Newcastle are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old Slovenian. United are exploring the possibility of deals for Watkins and Sesko, but a move for Nicolas Jackson has been ruled out due to Chelsea 's £80million asking price for him. While Amorim is keen to get a new striker signed as quickly as possible to give him time to settle in and build up an understanding with his new team-mates, he accepts that negotiations could drag on. ‌ In order to fund a move for a striker, United must raise revenue from player sales, with the double sale of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony – both left out of the US tour squad - enough to cover the cost of a new front man. United are also trying to offload Jadon Sancho and Tyrrell Malacia, who joined Garnacho and Antony in being left behind by Amorim, while Marcus Rashford 's loan move to Barcelona has saved around £12m, with the Spanish giants covering his wages for the whole of next season. ‌ United's determination to sign a new striker casts doubt over the future of Rasmus Hojlund, who struggled last season, scoring just 10 goals from 52 appearances in all competitions. Villa sources insist Watkins is not for sale, but they wanted £60m from Arsenal in January, before changing their stance when Jhon Duran left to join Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.
