Report: 49ers Looking Into Potential Preseason Trade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to work their way back to being a top-tier contender in the NFC. After missing the playoffs last season following a run to the Super Bowl the year before, the franchise is looking to get back on track. While there was quite a bit of player movement this offseason, the 49ers still have a lot of quality talent on their roster. Led by Brock Purdy, the offense has enough talent to be good. However, there is one major question at the wide receiver position. With Deebo Samuel gone and Brandon Aiyuk still working his way back from a torn ACL, does the team have enough to work with when it comes to Purdy's targets? Head coach Kyle Shanahan speaks to media during San Francisco 49ers media availability ahead of Super Bowl LVIII at Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa on February 08, 2024 in Henderson, Nevada. Photo byOn the outside looking in, San Francisco should have a good defense. Robert Saleh is back in town and there are enough good pieces in place. Some key pieces from last season left during the offseason, but they should be fine. Read more: Bears Head Coach Doesn't Hold Back About Caleb Williams Due to the questions at the wide receiver position, the 49ers are looking into making a move. According to a report from NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic, San Francisco is among the teams looking to make a preseason trade for a wide receiver. She also named the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. "The Jets are among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions, per sources," Russini wrote. "The 49ers and Vikings are also making calls." As of right now, the 49ers have a few names ready to start the season. Jauan Jennings has been dealing with an injury but will be a big part of the wide receiver room to go along with Ricky Pearsall, and Demarcus Robinson. They don't need to spend huge to get a star, but they do need a player that they can plug into the offense and get a good return from. That is needed especially until Aiyuk is able to get back on the field. Expect to continue hearing rumors surrounding San Francisco. At least for now, the 49ers are making calls. Kansas City Chiefs STC Dave Doub weighs in on Skyy Moore's roster status
During his press conference on Tuesday, Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub shared his thoughts on wide receiver Skyy Moore's roster status going into the final preseason game on Friday night. "The past couple of years have been like for him, yeah, I mean, his punt return ability and kick return ability have really gotten better over the years. It showed right there. He's, solid there, on that part of it, the other part (dropped passes) it's a mental I think, with him, "said Toub, "It's just getting over that hump, he's definitely an NFL player, whether he's on our team or not, on our team, I think the return helped him." Moore contributed mightily at the start of his career before battling injuries. He notably scored his first NFL touchdown in Kansas City's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. "I'd be happy with Skyy back there. I mean, he's broken through. He had a barrier when he was a rookie; he had a couple of bad things that happened, but then he had a lot of success in the playoffs," said Toub, "so I think he got over that, and he's comfortable back there. He's one of our best catchers on punts. So I feel comfortable, if we had had to use him, if it came down to that." The recent 88-yard punt return touchdown may have given the two-time Super Bowl champion hope of making the team this season.

Former Iowa football OT, current Bucs star in elite company in NFL players poll
We're now in the top 30 in the newest NFL players ranking of the best in the game currently. This is where the list gets extremely hard to make, as there are so many fantastic players in the league, all deserving of respect. But this is why the players get paid the big bucks. Iowa fans most recently saw George Kittle come in at 31st on the ranking, but he wasn't the highest-ranked former Hawkeye on the list. Because that honor belongs to one of the offensive tackles in the entire game. A guy who can play both left and right tackle at an elite level. And a player who just became the highest-paid offensive lineman in the history of the NFL. Tristan Wirfs was named the 28th-best player in the entire league by his fellow players. Wirfs' place on this list is very fair, maybe even a little bit too low. He's a four-time Pro Bowler, two-time First-team All-Pro, and a Super Bowl champion. Oh, and he's only 26 years old. The sky is the limit for Wirfs in terms of what he can do the rest of his career. There's a very good chance he could go down as the best offensive lineman to ever play the game. It's high praise, but he's deserved it with what he's done in the league so far. There's also a good chance that Wirfs ends up being the highest-ranked former Hawk on this list, just beating out Kittle. The rest of the list is still being revealed gradually, so we'll have to wait and see if that's the case. Regardless, it's a great accomplishment for Wirfs and another ledger to add to his resume. It's great to see a former Hawkeye have this much success in the NFL, especially after a stellar career in Iowa City. And it'll be exciting to see what Wirfs can do in 2025.
