Amid India-Pakistan tension, Air Force chief meets PM Modi
Air Chief Marshal of the Indian Air Force, A.P. Singh, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday (May 4, 2025) even as tensions between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack continued to be high. The meeting was also held amid growing cross-border skirmishes along Jammu and Kashmir.
On April 29, PM Modi said that the Indian armed forces have his full confidence and 'complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets and timing' of India's response in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. He was reported to have said this during a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Marshal A.P. Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi.
Twenty-six people were killed when a group of at least four terrorists struck the Baisaran meadow on April 22, selectively killing tourists on the basis of religion. One ponywala was also killed when he tried to protect the tourists.
The Sunday meeting also took place within 24 hours of Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh. K. Tripathi meeting Mr. Modi and informing him about the overall situation in the critical Arabian Sea. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the Service chiefs had also held meetings with the Prime Minister.
India is weighing its options to the Pahalgam terror attack, which it believes was planned in Pakistan. India has already taken several diplomatic measures, including suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. In retaliation, Pakistan banned Indian-flagged ships from entering its ports with immediate effect after New Delhi imposed fresh punitive measures, including a ban on the import of goods and entry of Pakistani vessels into its ports.

Cyprus, Croatia squeezed into PM Modi's itinerary
NEW DELHI: As India works to expand its footprint in Europe, PM Narendra Modi will visit Cyprus on his way to Canada for the G7 summit and Croatia while returning home. Both Cyprus and Croatia are members of the EU and the former will hold the rotating presidency of the EU Council for the first half of the next year. S Jaishankar welcomes Belgium's support and solidarity in combatting terrorism

The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and combating terrorism. Appreciated the strong momentum of our bilateral engagement and the India - EU partnership. Also held wide - ranging discussions on deepening our cooperation including in trade, investment, technology, defence & security, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and mobility. " Jaishankar's visit to Brussels comes three months after Princess Astrid of Belgium led a 300-member economic mission to India. The recent visit by Princess Astrid, who met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jaishankar, discussed key areas such as labor migration, pharmaceuticals, defense, diamonds, space exploration, and green energy. Interestingly, Jaishankar's visit coincides with the detention of fugitive Indian diamantaire Mehul Choksi in a Belgian jail. Choksi, accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank of Rs 13,850 crore, was arrested in mid-April on India's extradition request. Jaishankar is on an official visit to France, the European Union (EU), and Belgium from June 8 to 14, 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs announced in a press release on Sunday. The visit marks a significant step in further strengthening India's strategic partnerships with Europe. The EAM will first travel to Paris and Marseille, France, where he will hold bilateral discussions with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Jean Noel Barrot. The EAM will hold a Strategic Dialogue with the EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas. According to the MEA press release, "India-European Union strategic partnership has strengthened over the years across diverse sectors and got a big boost with the first-ever visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February this year." Jaishankar will also meet senior leadership from the European Commission and European Parliament and interact with think tanks and media. MEA in its statement noted that the Belgium leg would also see the EAM meet members of the Indian community during his visit. The MEA highlighted, "India and Belgium share warm and friendly relations along with a very robust economic partnership. Today the collaboration between the two countries spans various domains like trade and investment, green energy, technology, pharmaceutical, diamond sector and strong people-to-people ties." The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit is expected to further deepen India's friendly relations with the European Union, France and Belgium and give renewed momentum to ongoing cooperation in diverse areas.
