Alicia Silverstone didn't expect Clueless return
The 48-year-old actress shot to fame playing pampered teenager Cher Horowitz in the 1995 movie and she revealed in April she'd be reprising the role for a TV series sequel, and she admitted it was her appearance as her alter ego in Rakuten's 2023 Super Bowl commercial that made her particularly keen for a return.
Asked if she thought she'd ever revisit her character, she told People magazine: "I didn't. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun. We did it really at the Super Bowl."
But Alicia insisted she could say "nothing" about the reboot or the planned plot.
The Baby-Sitters Club actress recalled her and ex-husband Christopher Jarecki's son Bear, now 14, first saw the movie when he was just five years old - and although the youngster "didn't know what was going on", the movie compelled him to kiss his mom more.
She recalled: "I remember when my son was five, when he first saw it.
"And the only reason I would allow that, because I don't think it's appropriate for 5 year olds, is because it was on that big screen that we saw it at the cemetery. He didn't know what was going on.
'The only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet.
'And I think he liked it. And then he's liked it all along. I think he really likes this film.'
The Clueless reboot will be written by 'Gossip Girl' creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss.
The film's original writer/director Amy Heckerling is listed as an executive producer, alongside Alicia.
There was a previous attempt to bring 'Clueless' back as a TV show for Peacock back in 2020, but that project never went forward.
A previous TV show version of the story launched back in the 1990s, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher for three seasons between 1996 and 1999.
Alicia previously revived Cher back in 2021 when she recreated a scene from the film with her son Bear for a video posted on TikTok.
She later enlisted her former co-star Stacey Dash - who played Cher's best friend Dionne - to film another recreated scene for the social media site before sharing a Cher montage last year to mark 27 years since 'Clueless' hit cinemas.
Alicia captioned the clip: "27 years ago, a bad b**** was born ... Happy anniversary, Cher! #Clueless #AsIf #90s."

Pete Davidson 'grew tired' of focus on his personal life
Pete Davidson has found the focus on his personal life to be "traumatic". The 31-year-old comedian has dated a host of famous women, including Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Kaia Gerber, Margaret Qualley, and Phoebe Dynevor, but Pete felt frustrated that people often knew him for his high-profile love life, rather than his comedy talent. He said on The Breakfast Club: "It just got to a point where I was ... I got really tired of my whole career just being like my personal life. And living through that is it's sort of traumatic. Like not to be like lame, but like it's traumatic to live in your own crap all the time." Pete also hated the experience of being sexualised by the public. The comedy star explained: "I don't want to victimise myself in any way because I'm cool, but the sexualisation of me — if that was a girl, people would be like, there would be a march for it ... Seriously. You're just talking about my d*** all day." Pete and his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt are currently expecting their first child together, and the actor recently claimed that his impending fatherhood has given him a new perspective on life. Pete - who shot to stardom on Saturday Night Live, before turning his focus towards the movie industry - told People magazine: 'I'm just excited to take care of the little one. The second I found out the news, I was like, 'Oh wow, what I do is just a job.' "I realised I was kind of basing my happiness on work, which is ridiculously unhealthy. So it gave me this weird sense of calmness, where this is just a job and now I have someone to do it for." The King of Staten Island star is already looking forward to his child enjoying playdates with four-month-old Saga, the daughter of his friend Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. Pete - who began dating Elsie in March - said: "We're going to have awesome play dates. Yeah, that's [going to be] a cool play date."

Alicia Silverstone 'felt more confident before Clueless'
Alicia Silverstone "had more confidence about what [she] was doing" before starring in Clueless. The 48-year-old actress played Cher Horowitz in the 1995 teen comedy film, and Alicia now acknowledges that it was a turning point in her life. She told Entertainment Weekly: "Before Clueless, I was much more intuitive and playful and had more confidence about what I was doing. And I think after Clueless, for a minute I got a little stressed and made it more intellectual or something. I had about three or four years of this strange feeling. "Acting is important to me, but I have taken breaks from it at times, and then come back to it because I loved it so much. I've figured out that you can do all the things." Alicia actually suffered a series of setbacks before landing her first big role in Hollywood, and the actress still has vivid memories of being overlooked for film parts. She shared: "At first, I was auditioning almost every day, but I wasn't getting anything. Then, all of a sudden, I started to get close to everything. They would say, 'It's between you and one other girl.' But that actually was worse. I'd get so close and then be disappointed, where before I didn't care." Alicia actually wore a casual outfit for her Clueless audition, admitting that she wasn't especially fashion-conscious at the time. She said: "What's funny is, when I got the role for Clueless, I wore jeans. "Actually, my entire auditioning process up until around the time of Clueless, I wore jeans and a green T-shirt with a little pocket on it. That's just what I wore every single day. "At that age, I never had any interest in fashion at all, so I would just wear whatever was around, even if it was really unattractive flannel." Alicia previously admitted to being surprised by the impact of Clueless. The actress never imagined that the teen comedy movie would change her life. She told Entertainment Tonight: "I don't think I was thinking about anything in the future when I was 18-years-old. "I had no idea. I just knew it was an exciting part and that [director] Amy Heckerling was such a good filmmaker. I was really excited to take that on." Asked whether she'd like to star in another Clueless movie, Alicia explained: "I don't think Amy Heckerling's down for that. "It's not in my hands. I think what's really hard about Clueless to re-do it is that Cher learns how to become a whole human. "Where do you pick her up? Do you pick her up from the evolved self or do you pick up from she's relapsed and now she's back to her old ways? I don't know where you go."

Alicia Silverstone: I want to make the world a better place
Alicia Silverstone is determined to "make the world a better place". The 48-year-old star has dealt with lots of ups and downs in her acting career, but Alicia feels that her animal rights and environmental activism has helped her to develop a healthy sense of perspective. She told Entertainment Weekly: "We're all humans, so obviously there are things that can hurt your feelings here and there, but I really just got into activism and my desire to make the world a better place." Alicia admits that her outside interests have helped her to cope with career setbacks. She said: "I think that gave me something else to think about. I guess if [acting] was all I had, then perhaps I might be a bit more devastated." Alicia's body was a subject of discussion during her early days in Hollywood. But the actress - who starred in the Clueless film in 1995 - is now philosophical about the situation. She reflected: "We definitely did it differently back then. And that was not easy, for sure. But it's all fine. Nothing to lose sleep over. But certainly something that stays with you." Alicia previously confessed that she was initially "overwhelmed" by fame. The movie star struggled to cope with her celebrity status during her younger years. She told the Guardian newspaper: "I was so overwhelmed by being famous because I was such a young girl and it was never really my intention." Alicia thinks finding fame and success at such an early age means she "missed some emotional steps". However, she also acknowledges there were some positive aspects to her early success. She said: "I think I probably missed some emotional steps that needed to happen in a normal situation of development. "But I also jumped light years ahead in other ways. It's sort of a combo platter. You gain some and you lose some." Alicia also revealed she never struggled to get her voice heard in the movie business. She said: "Unfortunately or fortunately, I do not know, I've never had that problem with my work. "I have had it in my personal life, learning to have a voice in my real life has been harder than having a voice in my work life. Maybe it's because I had success at a young age and sometimes maybe to my detriment, when I should have been wrangled."
