Amitabh Bachchan is back for Kaun Banega Crorepati season 17. The quiz-based reality show premiered on Monday, August 11, on Sony TV and is also available to watch on the OTT platform SonyLIV.
The second episode saw contestant Ashutosh Kumar Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax from Balia, Uttar Pradesh, take the hot seat. After successfully answering 11 questions, he was unable to give the correct answer for the 12th question which could have earned him Rs 12.50 lakh.
The question was, "Which award, founded by tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin, is nicknamed the 'Oscars of Science'?"
The four options were - A) Edison Prize, B) Breakthrough Prize, C) Millennium Prize and D) Eureka Award.
Since the contestant did not have any lifelines left, he took a risk and picked Option C) Millennium, which turned out to be incorrect. After losing the Rs 12.50 lakh question, the participant went home with a prize money of Rs 5 lakh.
The correct answer to the question was Option B -- Breakthrough Prize.
FYI: The Breakthrough Prize, established in 2013, is an annual award that recognises outstanding achievements and contributions of scientists in fundamental physics, life sciences, and mathematics.
It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, former Google chief Sergey Brin, genomics company 23&Me founder Anne Wojcicki, and tech investor couple Yuri and Julia Milner.
This year, the Breakthrough Prize ceremony was held in Santa Monica, California, in April. The event saw the attendance of prominent figures, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Foster and Zoe Saldana, to name a few. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman were also present.
Coming to KBC 17, the first contestant of this season, Manavpreet Singh decided to quit the game after winning Rs 25 lakh. The reason was that he did not know the answer to this question: "To which South American author did Rabindranath Tagore dedicate his poetry collection Purabi?"
The options were as follows: A) Gabriela Mistral, B) Victoria Ocampo, C) Maria Luisa Bombal, D) Teresa de la Parra. Read all about it here.

Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17: KBC's Independence Day special episode turned into an emotional salute to the nation's real heroes – the brave Indian army who avenged the ghastly Pahalgam attack with Operation Sindoor. Host Amitabh Bachchan invited three pioneering women officers from the Indian Armed Forces – Colonel Sophia Qureshi from the Indian Army, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh from the Indian Air Force, and Commander Prerna Deosthalee from the Indian Navy on the show. On the hot seat, Colonel Qureshi of the Indian Army shared an unforgettable chapter from her life during a mission back in the day. Sofia Qureshi recalls a deadly mission from 2006 Recounting a mission from 2006 during her posting in Congo under the United Nations peacekeeping mission, Colonel Qureshi revealed how a sudden crisis erupted when militias opened fire and took shelter in a cemetery, trapping civilians including women. 'At that time, when the team was being formed, the names of Indian officers were called first. That moment, I realised there was a chance I may never return," she recalled. Overwhelmed by the memory, she shared that she recorded a heartfelt voice message for her mother on a small phone before leaving for the mission. 'I told her I would either return alive or wrapped in the tricolour. That was the only thought on my mind," she said. The mission was eventually successful, reinforcing her faith that 'the Indian Army is the best in the world." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sony LIV (@sonylivindia) Sofia Qureshi talks about Operation Sindoor Colonel Qureshi also spoke about Operation Sindoor, an Indian Army operation carried out in response to repeated provocations, including the Pahalgam attack of April 22. She emphasised that the mission was not revenge, but a strong message that 'the new India will not compromise on its security." Hearing her story, Amitabh Bachchan was visibly emotional and saluted the bravehearts who protect the nation without caring for their lives. Belonging to a family with three generations in the armed forces, Colonel Qureshi said she grew up listening to tales of courage – her ancestors even fought alongside Rani Lakshmibai. Coolie v/s War 2 : Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR still chase Rajinikanth's crime-actioner at the worldwide box office after 2 days

Coolie vs. War 2 is undoubtedly one of the biggest box office clashes in recent times. Despite minimal overlap in their target audiences, it is among the most high-profile clashes of our era. Initially, War 2 was expected to be the bigger opener and the higher grosser when both films began production. However, as pre-sales commenced, it became evident that Coolie would take the lead in the initial battle. Coolie Continues Leading War 2 On Day 2; Global Difference Between Both Movies Is Over Rs 80 Crore After 2 Days Coolie opened worldwide with collections of Rs 150.75 crore, while War 2 managed around Rs 79 crore. On the second day, War 2 narrowed the gap, but Coolie maintained its global lead, driven by a stronger overseas performance. Coolie collected Rs 92 crore, compared to War 2's Rs 79 crore. While War 2's second day collections in India surpassed Coolie's, it still chases the Rajinikanth starrer courtesy the latter's lead in international markets. Ultimately, the difference between Coolie and War 2 will hinge on overseas collections, as their India collections are expected to be nearly identical, with a slight chance of Coolie finishing ahead. War 2 And Coolie Will Be Viewed As Missed Opportunities Because... Both films are likely to be viewed as missed opportunities. However, Coolie's collections are projected to rank among the top five of all time for a Kollywood film, making it reasonable to consider it a superhit. Additionally, its production costs are not as high as perceived, with over 60 percent of the budget reportedly allocated to actor and director remuneration. War 2, on the other hand, is shaping up to be a loss-making venture, which is surprising given the significant non-theatrical revenue that typically offsets costs for producers. The losses faced by the Andhra distributor are best left unaddressed. War 2 Vs Coolie Clash Update Realistically, Coolie can be declared the winner of this clash, but its underperformance relative to expectations may disappoint Rajinikanth fans and Lokesh Kanagaraj enthusiasts. War 2, from a purely commercial perspective, will likely be remembered as a nightmare best forgotten. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
