BHU To Consider Both CUET, 12th Marks For Admission After Over 1000 Seats Left Vacant
Despite thorough exam preparation, results sometimes fall short of expectations. Entrance tests like CUET can be particularly unforgiving, where even minor mistakes can undermine significant effort. This often leaves students questioning their next steps. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has alleviated some of this concern by introducing a new admission policy. For the vacant seats in UG and PG courses, BHU will now consider both CUET scores and academic merit, including 12th or graduation marks.
This decision benefits students who may not have ranked well in CUET but have strong academic records. The UGC emphasises that vacant seats are detrimental to both the university and the students. With classrooms and resources ready, it is illogical for seats to remain unoccupied. Hence, BHU and other universities now have the option to admit students based on merit as well.
According to reports, thousands of seats are still vacant in various courses at BHU.
PG Courses: Out of around 10,000 seats, approximately 1,200 seats are vacant.
UG Courses: Out of 9,200 seats, a significant number of seats are still vacant.
UGC says that leaving such seats vacant is a waste of resources, hence they must be filled at all costs.
UGC Secretary Manish R. Joshi has stated that future admissions will require CUET scores, but this year, vacant seats can be filled based on merit. This provides relief for students, as they need not worry about CUET scores this year. With vacant seats at BHU, the opportunity for admission remains.
Even if students do not perform well in CUET, they can still study at a prestigious institute like BHU if they have a solid academic record. This new policy offers hope to those who have been disadvantaged by costly coaching and lengthy entrance exams, saving them from wasting an entire year.
