BHU To Consider Both CUET, 12th Marks For Admission After Over 1000 Seats Left Vacant
BHU Admission 2025: For the vacant seats in UG and PG courses, BHU will now consider both CUET scores and academic merit, including 12th or graduation marks. Despite thorough exam preparation, results sometimes fall short of expectations. Entrance tests like CUET can be particularly unforgiving, where even minor mistakes can undermine significant effort. This often leaves students questioning their next steps. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has alleviated some of this concern by introducing a new admission policy. For the vacant seats in UG and PG courses, BHU will now consider both CUET scores and academic merit, including 12th or graduation marks. This decision benefits students who may not have ranked well in CUET but have strong academic records. The UGC emphasises that vacant seats are detrimental to both the university and the students. With classrooms and resources ready, it is illogical for seats to remain unoccupied. Hence, BHU and other universities now have the option to admit students based on merit as well. According to reports, thousands of seats are still vacant in various courses at BHU. PG Courses: Out of around 10,000 seats, approximately 1,200 seats are vacant. UG Courses: Out of 9,200 seats, a significant number of seats are still vacant. UGC says that leaving such seats vacant is a waste of resources, hence they must be filled at all costs. UGC Secretary Manish R. Joshi has stated that future admissions will require CUET scores, but this year, vacant seats can be filled based on merit. This provides relief for students, as they need not worry about CUET scores this year. With vacant seats at BHU, the opportunity for admission remains. Even if students do not perform well in CUET, they can still study at a prestigious institute like BHU if they have a solid academic record. This new policy offers hope to those who have been disadvantaged by costly coaching and lengthy entrance exams, saving them from wasting an entire year. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. UGC tells institutions to increase number of seats, admit more foreign students
The University Grants Commission has asked all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), through a recent circular, to furnish the details of foreign students they have enrolled for their courses. The UGC advised the HEIs to implement a 2022 UGC circular for creating up to 25% 'supernumerary seats' for international students, over and above of their total sanctioned enrolment for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In a letter to all HEIs, UGC Secretary Manish R. Joshi said that the implementation of the 2022 guidelines will facilitate smooth and viable admission of international students and will create a favourable environment to make India a preferred destination for international students. Prof. Joshi said that internationalisation of higher education is one of the essential aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) and many Indian HEls are now committed to increasing their global outreach. 'Subsequently, in order to facilitate the internationalisation of Indian HEls, the University Grants Commission has framed the guidelines for admission and creation of supernumerary seats for international students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in HEls in India. The guidelines were circulated earlier by UGC to all HEIs for its implementation on September 30, 2022,' Prof. Joshi said. As per the guidelines, HEls may create up to 25% additional seats for international students, he added and urged HEIs to adopt and implement the admission guidelines and provide supernumerary seats for international students in letter and spirit. The objective of the 2022 guidelines was to facilitate a smooth and simple admission of international students in HEIs, and it allowed Indian HEls to admit international students based on the equivalence of entry qualification held by them. 'The equivalence is to be determined by UGC or any other body recognised by UGC for such purpose or the concerned regulatory bodies of the country. HEIs may adopt a transparent admission process for admitting international students,' the circular had said.
