Enniscorthy Tidy Town celebrate over 30 years of community awards at 2025 launch

Chairman Jonathon Hughes said they are happy to have a way to return the support they have received over the years.
'The Enniscorthy Tidy Towns annual awards have been running for over 30 years. We found some old archive articles from as far back as 1994. The Tidy Towns competition is about much more than litter picking, the competition has eight categories which we are judged on. Adjudicators consider the appearance of shopfronts and streetscapes, residential streets and housing areas,' he explained.
'Well presented shopfronts, businesses and residential areas not only look visually appealing they add to the character and ambience of the town. Hanging baskets, pollinator friendly planting, well maintained gardens, colourful flower beds and well presented premises are considered.'
'Enniscorthy Tidy Towns wants to acknowledge and reward the hard work and dedication of members of the public and businesses that go the extra mile in displaying and maintaining their premises. In recent years, we have placed an added emphasis on premises that promote pollinator friendly initiatives and sustainability in the community. Last year, we handed out over 20 awards and we are hoping to see plenty of entries this year as the awards go from strength to strength,' he added.
Application forms available in EMD offices, or by emailing enniscorthytt@gmail.com and the closing date for applications is Friday, August 29.

North Kerry Tidy Towns group urging residents and businesses to enter local competitions in Listowel

The Tidy Towns Association is holding contests for the tidiest estates, the best kept roadside gardens and the best presentation of window boxes/hanging baskets. Each competition includes different categories of prizes that will be awarded to winners courtesy of generous local sponsors. Members have invited everyone to get involved in the competitions, as the upkeep of the town will go a long way to ensuring Listowel does well in this year's national Tidy Towns competition. Tidy Towns members are hoping that the overall prize awarded to Listowel in 2018 can be achieved once again. Those interested in entering the local competitions must register with Oonagh at Chemo Pharmacy on Market Street on or before Monday, July 14. No fee is required to enter. 'Remember, if you're not in, you can't win,' Listowel Tidy Towns PRO Jackie Barrett-Madigan said. Judging of each competition will be carried out by an outside panel the week after the entrance deadline. Listowel Tidy Towns has thanked the sponsors of its local contests. Kerry Ingredients is sponsoring the Estates Competition, O'Flynn's Centre/Circle K is backing the Hanging Baskets competition and Listowel Garden Centre & Café is supporting the Residential Gardens Competition. 'Without their generosity this part of Listowel Tidy Towns program would not be possible. And a big thank you to Oonagh for again facilitating the entries,' Ms Barrett said.

Volunteer efforts set to be honoured at upcoming Tralee Tidy Towns awards

An awards ceremony, supported by co-sponsors Cara Credit Union, Garvey's Supervalu Tralee, The Rose Hotel and Kerry County Council, will take place at the Rose Hotel in October to honour the efforts of Tralee residents, businesses, and public buildings in enhancing the town's appearance. The event will highlight the contributions of individuals and communities maintaining their homes, gardens, estates, and green areas. This year, several award categories will be available for residential estates: Large, Medium, and Small Estates, along with an Estate Biodiversity Award and an Estate Feature Area Award. Garden-related awards will include Large and Small Gardens, a Garden Biodiversity Award, a Plant Bed/Container/Flower Basket Award, a Favourite Plant Award, and a Favourite Spot in My Garden Award. Businesses and public buildings can also apply in one of six categories: Best Hotel, Shop, Bar/Public House, Café/Restaurant, Service Station, and Public Buildings. Tralee Tidy Towns Chair, Brendan O'Brien, had the following to say at the launch: 'Tralee is looking well and there's a lot of work going into the town – we want to recognise this and increase the growing sense of pride in Tralee. This awards event is a great way to do that. As a means of including more people in the awards event this year, we have categories like 'favourite spot in the garden' and a great idea by the organising committee is a 'favourite plant' award – so those who don't own a garden but are growing plants can be recognised.' 'We have to say a huge thank you to our sponsors for supporting this event, what we hope will be an even better event in 2025 – to Cara Credit Union, Garvey's Supervalu Tralee, The Rose Hotel and Kerry County Council, we just could not put this event on without this support. "We're launching this event this week and I'm asking the estates, the gardens and the businesses to enter and it might inspire that extra bit of effort or draw more volunteers in to the overall Tidy Towns effort in Tralee. We know this will build community and help Tralee progress in the Tidy Towns competition but ultimately it will help to make Tralee a better place to live in, work in and visit,' he continued. To take part, entrants should send their name, contact details, and chosen category to tidytownstralee@ or send a private message to the Tralee Tidy Towns Facebook page. Application forms will be available via email, on social media, and in hard copy from the Kerry County Council Tralee Municipal District Office on Princes Quay. The closing date for entries is July 18. The awards ceremony will be held in October at the Rose Hotel.
