Ex-Arsenal star sentenced last month for part in £600k drug smuggling plot signs for new team
The player came through the ranks at the north London club, before going on loan at a number of Football League sides such as Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers, and Cardiff before leaving the Gunners.
He had stints at a number of clubs in England, Scotland and even India and Thailand, before joining Greenock Morton, where he was later sacked after his arrest back in September last year.
The player in question, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, had been arrested after an estimated £600,000 worth of cannabis was seized while being brought through Stansted Airport by two women, one of whom was his girlfriend.
Though Emmanuel-Thomas initially claimed to be innocent, he eventually changed his plea to guilty at a hearing in May at Chelmsford Crown Court.
He then received a four-year prison sentence, but was released on parole having already served 10 months at HMP Chelmsford, and he has now already found himself a new club.
Emmanuel-Thomas has been snapped up by National League South side AFC Totton, and the 34-year-old's playing career is now set to resume.
'We are absolutely delighted to welcome Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to the club,' Totton revealed in a statement.
'Jay joins us with a wealth of experience in the Championship and we're sure his goals will lead to a successful season here on the South Coast!'
During the case, the prosecutor - David Josse KC - told the court that the interception of the two women carrying the drugs had taken place at the airport.
He added that it the became 'apparent' that Emmanuel-Thomas has been involved in 'their recruitment' to travel to Thailand.
Judge Alexander Mills said: 'It is through your own actions you will no longer be known as a professional footballer.
'You will be known as a criminal. A professional footballer who threw it all away.'
Emmanuel-Thomas' lawyer Alex rose, said: 'The financial gain in this case for Mr Emmanuel-Thomas was £5,000.'
He added that the former Arsenal academy star, who played five times for the first team, had made a 'catastrophic error of judgement', following a period of 'significant financial hard times' that had led him to 'succumbing to temptation'.
Emmanuel-Thomas wrote in a letter read out in the court: 'This past year has been the most harmful and eye-opening of my life. At times it has been unbearable.'
He also noted that he 'completely regrets but takes full responsibility for' his actions.

Arsenal's swap deal proposal suffers blow as Mikel Arteta eyes next big transfer
Arsenal are going after Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and had considered using Reiss Nelson as part of the deal - but the winger is now in negotiations to join another of their London rivals Arsenal had been hoping to use Reiss Nelson in a swap deal that could've seen them land Crystal Palace 's Eberechi Eze - but the player is now in advanced talks to move to Fulham. Nelson spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage and discussions between the Gunners and their London rivals hinge on either a loan deal with an option to buy, which would include a significant fee, or a permanent transfer. An agreement is thought to be close, but not guaranteed, reports the Athletic. Nelson made himself a fixture under Marco Silva and played in 13 consecutive games for Fulham before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in December. His contract at Arsenal ties him down until 2027, but he has very much fallen out of favour with the Gunners continuing to eye new recruits in the final third. Fulham have yet to make a signing this summer but have seen Willian and Carlos Vinicius leave on free transfers, which has only increased their need to bring in new faces, especially in attack. Arsenal, having now got a deal for Viktor Gyokeres over the line, are ready to increase their efforts to land Eze. The winger has just put himself into the Palace history books after scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final. However the Eagles face a fight to keep their leading light, who has long been linked with a move away. Eze has made himself a regular England international and Arsenal believe he can add even more quality to their attack having seen moves for Nico Williams and Rodrygo cool this summer. Eze's preference is a move to the Emirates, as per The Independent, and those close to the player are confident a deal to take him to Arsenal will be completed in the next few weeks. The Gunners hope to secure a deal for £60million, rather than the reported £68m release clause, but the chances of giving Palace Nelson to appease them looks to be fading. It has previously been claimed that Arsenal were pushing for a deal that would involve three instalments of £20m. Throughout the summer the north Londoners have been linked with adding a wide forward to provide competition for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Last summer Palace lost Michael Olise, who was a key figure in attack, to Bayern Munich. 12 months on and they're also battling to keep captain Marc Guehi with his contract winding down and Liverpool circling as they look to take advantage of the situation.

Alex Jones reveals she was completely unaware about complaints made against her The One Show co-host Jermaine Jenas
Alex Jones has revealed she was completely unaware about complaints made against her The One Show co-host Jermaine Jenas. Jenas, 42, was taken off the show after being fired by the BBC for sending inappropriate messages to female employees during his time at the corporation. The sexting scandal also cost Jenas his 13-year marriage after his wife Ellie, the mother of three of his four children, announced the pair were divorcing earlier in March. Someone who was oblivious to the complaints was Welsh presenter Alex, who used to host The One Show alongside Jenas. Speaking to The Big Issue, she said: 'I very much take people on face value. But with JJ I didn't know what was going on. I thought he was taking extended leave. 'If that was my daughter and she felt uncomfortable with someone's behaviour, I hope that whatever company she was working for would deal with it swiftly as well.' Jenas, who also has a daughter from a previous relationship, was sacked by the BBC in August, which resulted in him losing his hosting gig on The One Show and punditry work on both Match of the Day and 5 Live. The BBC confirmed their decision while he was on air guest hosting talkSPORT's drive time show. His agency MC Saatchi also cut ties with him before he brought in a crisis PR team to handle the aftermath of the scandal. Jenas revealed he lied to wife Ellie during a family holiday in order to sneak off and take a Zoom call with BBC bosses after news of his X-rated messages was first revealed within the broadcaster. And he also told how she had kicked him out of their £1million home in Hertfordshire after he admitted sending inappropriate messages to two female colleagues. Speaking to the Filthy Rellas podcast last month, Jenas claimed historical problems within the relationship also contributed to the break up. He said: 'The reality is, me and my wife haven't split up because I sent some text messages to some people at work. 'We had issues for a period of time, it all comes to a head and you eventually make a decision to say, as adults, we will be better parents for our children if we just remain friends and that's it. 'We had 16 amazing years together, me and my wife, how many people last that long? Sixteen years. Ups and downs. She caught the wrong end of my [playing] career, bless her.' During an interview with The Sun shortly after he was sacked by the BBC, Jenas admitted his wife was 'raging' over the incident. He said: 'We've not really spoken properly since. She's absolutely raging.' Jenas continued: 'It's just about the children right now. It's the school holidays and they're trapped in the house because photographers are outside my house. 'They're like, 'What's going on, Daddy?'. It's tough.' He added: 'I've got to take responsibility and I've apologised to all of them. 'I don't know what to say about that, to be honest with you. It's just hard at home for the kids right now. My wife's a real one 'My wife is solid and she's amazing. She is kind. She just needs some time.' Jenas bombarded a woman working at the World Cup in Qatar two years ago with unwanted messages asking 'You want my boy now?' During the interview, Jenas insisted Ellie should not fear more women coming out of the woodwork with tales of further inappropriate behaviour. However, weeks after the scandal broke, MailOnline revealed Jenas bombarded a woman working at the World Cup in Qatar two years ago with unwanted messages asking 'You want my boy now?' before sending her a picture of his manhood, despite her making clear she was not interested in his advances. The following week, we also told how he repeatedly pestered a junior make-up artist for sex - and when she told him she had a boyfriend replied: 'Just come to my dressing room early and I'll [perform a sex act] on u… that's not cheating.' That incident took place when he was working for BT Sport in 2017, where he was a rising star as a football pundit.
