Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, collapsed in the dock after the 30th charge was read out, forcing the court to pause proceedings, Astro Awani reported. Nora, who previously served in the company's commercial support unit, is accused of altering the customer management system to convert 743 regular customer accounts into corporate accounts, granting these users free access to content. The offences are said to have been committed between 2013 and 2020 at Astro's office at Menara Icon on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. All the charges were framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, up to seven years in jail, or both, upon conviction. PM Anwar congratulates President Lee on South Korea election victory

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his warmest congratulations to Lee Jae-myung on his election as the President of South Korea. He said that this marks a turning point for South Korea, a nation that has emerged from a period of intense contest and scrutiny with resilience and democratic resolve. 'The people have spoken for renewal of trust, of institutions, and of national purpose,' he said in a Facebook post today. 'I welcome the opportunity to work with President Lee to deepen the friendship between our nations: in trade and technology, in peace and security, and the enduring ties between our peoples. Malaysia-South Korea ties were elevated to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024, a milestone reflecting both nations' shared ambitions. Anwar said Malaysia, as Chair of ASEAN for 2025, hopes to see ASEAN play a more prominent role in South Korea's regional outlook. South Korea currently chairs the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). 'As Chairs of ASEAN and APEC in 2025, respectively, Malaysia and South Korea are well placed to lead impactful regional initiatives. 'In a time of global flux, a deeper partnership between Southeast Asia and South Korea will be indispensable to us all,' he said. Anwar also wished Lee wisdom and success in the journey ahead and said he looks forward to meeting him in Kuala Lumpur this October for the ASEAN Summit, and again in Gyeongju, South Korea, for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting later that month. Lee formally began his five-year term today after the National Election Commission (NEC) confirmed his election victory during a plenary session. The liberal Democratic Party (DP) candidate won the election with 49.42 per cent of the vote, defeating his rival Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party, who garnered 41.15 per cent.

Fahmi, Azalina to collaborate on tightening social media regulation

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his readiness to hold further discussions with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, to strengthen the regulation of social media platforms in Malaysia. Fahmi said the meeting is vital following Azalina's recent proposal to amend existing laws, including requiring parents and guardians to monitor their children's online behaviour and participate in digital safety awareness and education programmes. He said that these measures will take into account the experience and approaches of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Ministry of Communications in handling various issues related to digital platforms and social media in the country. 'I will be meeting Datuk Seri Azalina to explore possible ways, based on MCMC's and the Ministry's experience dealing with social media platforms, on what we can do,' Fahmi told reporters after the Hawana 2025-Bernama Strategic Partners' Appreciation Ceremony and Official Launch of Bernama Motorhome at Wisma Bernama here yesterday. Present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, as well as Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also Hawana 2025 project director. Elaborating, Fahmi said that the Online Safety Act (OnSA) 2024, which is set to be enforced soon, will grant MCMC the authority to take action against social media platforms that fail to fulfil their obligations. 'So, we will look at the best ways to assist the Law Minister in the implementation and drafting of the legislation she mentioned,' he added. — Bernama
