A Carlisle teenager killed in a crash in Florida after Easter was remembered for his independence, creativity and for being a compassionate person, his family wrote in his obituary.
At around 9:28 p.m. on April 21, James McIntosh, Hannah Wasserman, Maisey O'Donnell and a third teenage girl were in an SUV driving west on Route 98 in Walton County, near Panama City Beach, Florida, when they were struck by a tractor-trailer trying to make a U-turn in a paved median, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report obtained by MassLive.
The SUV crossed the median and the highway's eastbound side before stopping along the woodline, police said. Wasserman and McIntosh died, while O'Donnell later died at the hospital, Concord-Carlisle Regional School District Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter said in a statement obtained by WCVB-TV. The third teenage girl was last reported in critical condition.
McIntosh, also known as Jimmy, was born on March 30, 2007, in Boston, his family wrote. Until he was 4 years old, he lived in Milford before his parents moved to his mother's childhood home in Carlisle.
From kindergarten through high school, McIntosh made friends with his fellow students, with teachers and with other parents, "never afraid to interact with anyone and had a confidence and spirit that few children have at that age," his family wrote.
He 'was magnetic, filling all the hearts he touched with love and joy... incredibly independent, creative, intellectually curious and enviably fashionable," his family continued. 'He loved to make pottery, shop, travel, and especially spend time with his family and friends... He loved a good adventure.'
McIntosh fell in love with Charleston, South Carolina, where he hoped to go to college in the fall, his obituary read.
McIntosh is survived by his parents Liz and Scott McIntosh; his maternal grandparents; his paternal grandfather; multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and uncles and extended family members. McIntosh was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Nancy McIntosh (Kelly).
His family invited friends and relatives to gather for visitation at the Dee Funeral Home at 27 Bedford St. on Sunday, May 4, from 2-6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the First Religious Society, 27 School St. in Carlisle at 4 p.m. on May 5. A reception will then immediately follow and will be streamed online. McIntosh will be privately interred at Green Cemetery in Carlisle.

Boyfriend stabbed pregnant 18-year-old and buried her in yard, MA officials say

A Massachusetts man told police his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend was missing in early August but she was already dead, according to prosecutors, who said he stabbed her then buried her body in his yard, news outlets reported. Now Gregory Groom, 22, of Rehoboth, is charged with murder in the death of Kylee Monteiro, according to WCVB. She had been 11 weeks pregnant. Following Groom's arrest at his home the evening of Aug. 19, authorities said human remains, likely Monteiro's, were found at the Rehoboth residence, CBS Boston reported. Rehoboth is about a 45-mile drive southeast from Boston. Groom appeared in court for an arraignment Aug. 20, according to the outlet, when prosecutors told the courtroom Groom killed Monteiro before sending a text to her sister. In the message, Monteiro wrote: 'He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me. My phones at 4 percent and if I die, it was Greg.' He pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges he is facing in connection with the killing, according to CBS Boston. Information on Groom's legal representation was not immediately available Aug. 20. 'Knowing that I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or say anything to her or get the chance to say goodbye or tell her that I love her,' said Kylee Monteiro's sister, Faith Monteiro, WCVB reported. Kylee Monteiro went missing Aug. 7, the Rehoboth Police Department said in a news release shared Aug. 11. When Groom was interviewed by police Aug. 19, he said Kylee Monteiro arrived at his house Aug. 6 from a residential program and said she hoped to stay with him, revealing she was pregnant and he was the father, a prosecutor said, according to WLNE. At some point afterward, according to the prosecutor, he fatally stabbed her behind a shed outside his home and buried her in his backyard, the outlet reported. Groom's grandparents were said to live with him, according to WCVB. When Groom first reported Kylee Monteiro as missing, he told police he argued with her at his house, then she left, according to the TV station. Groom has since confessed to repeatedly stabbing her with a kitchen knife, in her neck and chest, Assistant Bristol County District Attorney Jason Mohan said in Taunton District Court, according to the Fall River Herald News. 'The stab wound to her chest actually broke the blade off,' Mohan told the courtroom, the newspaper reported. In addition to murder, Groom also pleaded not guilty to assault and battery on a pregnant victim, assault and battery on a family or household member, and aggravated witness intimidation, according to the newspaper. He is due to return to court on Sept. 10, when his probable cause hearing was set, the Fall River Herald News reported. Faith Monteiro announced the death of her sister in an Aug. 20 Facebook post, in which she thanked law enforcement, the media and members of the public for their support. A vigil for her sister will be held in Rehoboth on Aug. 23, she shared. 'We will be providing everyone with a candle and we will have a donation box for those who may want to help cover funeral expenses for Kylee and her baby,' Faith Monteiro wrote.

‘Perfect family' of four found massacred inside New Hampshire home in apparent murder-suicide

A 'perfect' family of four was found shot to death inside their New Hampshire home in what officials believe was a murder-suicide – that left a toddler orphaned as the massacre's sole survivor. Ryan Long, 48, his wife, Emily Long, 34, and their two young children, Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6, were discovered Monday night after authorities received a chilling 911 call reporting multiple deaths inside the family's Madbury home, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said, WBZ-TV reported. The couple's three-year-old child was found alive and unharmed inside the house, and is now in the care of family. 4 Ryan Long, 48, his wife, Emily Long, 34, and their two young children, Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6, were discovered shot to death Monday night. CBS News 'It was shocking,' neighbor Bevy Ketel told the outlet. 'It was a perfect family as far as we knew. It's just shocking. We didn't see it coming.' Officials said the slain family members appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, where a gun was found near their bodies. 4 The four slain family members were found inside their Madbury home, where a gun was recovered nearby. CBS News The case is now being probed as a potential murder suicide as authorities await autopsy results. 'One of the biggest questions they have right now is motive, why?' Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati told WCAX. 'And I think that's probably one of the more difficult things that they are trying to grasp to understand how this came to be.' 4 The couple's three-year-old child was found alive and unharmed inside the slaughter house. CBS News While a motive remains unclear, the family's matriarch — who worked as director of operations at the restaurant chain Wing-Itz, according to her LinkedIn — often posted on social media about her struggles and despair as she coped with her husband's terminal cancer diagnosis. Ryan, a school psychologist at Oyster River Middle School in Durham, was reportedly diagnosed with glioblastoma, a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. In a TikTok posted just two days before police made the horrific discovery, Emily told her nearly 8,000 followers that her children were 'definitely struggling' and she herself had been 'really depressed' as she tried to restore health habits and normalcy in the home as her husband's health declined. 4 Emily Long posted a TikTok two days before cops made the horrific discovery. Titkok/emilylong41 'I am determined to create normalcy,' she said in her grim video. 'I have been struggling so much and really depressed and just have really become reclusive, and just wanted to be with my kids and my husband. That being said, I'm making a change and it is starting today … And I'm making a point to get out my depression and do this for my family.' The tragedy remains under investigation.
