Qatar Foundation announces new CEO Yousif Al Naama
Qatar Foundation (QF) appointed Yousif Al Naama as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Thursday. The organisation also gave expanded responsibilities for HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani as its Vice Chairperson. This evolution reflects how, in the year that marks its 30th anniversary, QF is entering a new phase of its journey as it continues to unlock human potential. It is also creating impact and benefit for the people of Qatar, the region, and the world, across its pillars of education, science and research, and community development. Qatar Foundation Chairperson HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser said: 'HE Sheikha Hind's appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Foundation nine years ago came with a clear mandate — to enhance the Foundation's role and to ensure its continuity locally, regionally, and internationally. Sheikha Hind has excelled in her mandate, and her contributions have exceeded our expectations.' HE Sheikha Hind said: 'In my role as the organization's Vice Chairperson — a position I've held since 2011 — I'll focus on the expansion of QF's strategic role and impact, through strengthening partnerships with QF's stakeholders within Qatar and globally, elevating the organization's international profile, and advancing strategic initiatives that span QF's diverse ecosystem of knowledge.' Al Naama brings a wide-ranging skillset, rooted in organizational planning and strategy, to his role as CEO of Qatar Foundation, which he will assume on June 1. He played an instrumental role in shaping and advancing Qatar's digital transformation within both the public and private sectors; contributed to the development of Qatar's first Information and Communications Technology Strategy and Masterplan; and was among the founding members of Qatar-based IT services provider Malomatia, serving as its CEO for over 15 years. 'I'm truly honored, and immensely proud, to be asked to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Foundation, an organization I've always greatly admired,' said Al Naama. 'I thank HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani for placing their faith in me, and I'll do my utmost to repay this faith. My task is clear: to implement the vision of Her Highness, and to harness the transformative impact that QF has seen during Her Excellency's tenure as Chief Executive Officer.' --- Make sure to check out our social media to keep track of the latest content. U.S. sanctions Chinese refinery importing Iranian oil
April 16 (UPI) -- The U.S Treasury Department on Wednesday announced sanctions on a Chinese refinery for allegedly importing more than a billion dollars in Iranian oil. The Treasury sanctioned Handong Shengxing Chemical Company, which it said is a front for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force. "Any refinery, company, or broker that chooses to purchase Iranian oil or facilitate Iran's oil trade places itself at serious risk," said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent in a statement. "The United States is committed to disrupting all actors providing support to Iran's oil supply chain, which the regime uses to support its terrorist proxies and partners." Also sanctioned were several companies and vessels Treasury said are responsible for facilitating Iranian oil shipments to China as part of Iran's "shadow fleet." The ships Nyantara, and Reston were sanctioned for allegedly transporting Iranian petroleum. Other alleged "shadow fleet" vessels sanctioned include the Egret, the Bestla and the Rani. They have shipped billions of dollars worth of Iranian oil, according to the Treasury Department. Companies alleged to operate those ships were also sanctioned. They include Panama-based Oceanic Orbit; Malaysia-based Pro Mission SDN BHD, Marshall Islands-based Bestla Company Limited; Hong-Kong-based Dexiang Shipping Co.; Panama-based Civic Capital Shipping; and Starboard Shipping Inc. According to the Treasury Department between March 2020 and January 2023, Shandong Shengxing sent over $800 million in wire transfers to China Oil and Petroleum Company. Treasury alleges that China Oil is actually a front company for the IRGC-QF that has "laundered billions through the U.S. financial system in support of the IRGC-QF, $108 million of which was seized by the Justice Department." In March, the Treasury Department sanctioned Shandong Shouguang Luqing Petrochemical Co. Ltd., another alleged Chinese 'teapot" refinery for importing Iranian oil. The company's legal representative and chief executive officer Wang Xueqing was also sanctioned.
