"Established capacity to accommodate 6000-6500 people," Udhampur Dy Commissioner Saloni Rai ahead of Amarnath Yatra
Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 18 (ANI): Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai said that the district administration is prepared to accommodate more than six thousand people during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Rai said that the district administration has also augmented the capacity of their other needs, like drinking water and washroom facilities.
'The Amarnath Yatra will commence from 3 July. It also passes through the Udhampur district. We have established the capacity to accommodate 6000-6500 people. We have also augmented the capacity of their other needs, like drinking water and washroom facilities. We have 71 washrooms and around 40 bathing points. 'We are also establishing toilet points along the highway,' the Deputy Commissioner said.
Shri Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 this year. The Yatra, culminating on August 9 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, will pass through Udhampur.
On Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a review meeting to prepare for security for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Senior officials of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, BSF, and other agencies are taking part in the review meeting to finalise an action plan on security and preparations for the Amarnath Yatra.
The meeting is being held at the Jammu and Kashmir Police headquarters.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Sarah Rizvi, held a meeting on June 14 on security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra.
During the meeting, the DIG emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims.
The senior official highlighted the need for meticulous planning and execution of security measures to address any potential threats and challenges.

The DIG stressed the importance of ensuring a high level of vigilance and preparedness for smooth conduct throughout the duration of the Yatra. Instructions were disseminated among various subordinate officers and concerned authorities to conduct regular briefing/debriefing and mock drills to ensure that all plans are effectively implemented and executed on the ground.
Several officers under the U-R range attended the meeting.
Earlier, Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, chaired a high-level review meeting regarding the administrative and logistical preparations for the incoming Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies to be deployed for the Amarnath Yatra, 2025. (ANI)

SRINAGAR: Acknowledging a dip in registrations for Amarnath Yatra following the Pahalgam terror attack , Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on Thursday assured full security for the yatra, which is set to begin on July 3, and appealed to devotees to participate in large numbers. At a press conference at Raj Bhawan, Sinha said there had been a 10.19% decline in pilgrim registrations compared to last year, attributing the drop to the Pahalgam massacre. He said before the attack, the pace of registration was encouraging, with around 2.36 lakh pilgrims signing up for the yatra, which concludes on Aug 9. The LG said the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) had launched a re-verification programme for pilgrims who had registered before the April 22 Pahalgam attack. 'So far 85,000 pilgrims have reconfirmed their registration after consultation with SASB,' he said, and hoped the numbers would go up in the coming days. He advised the pilgrims to move in the designated convoys for safety reasons. Even those coming in their own vehicles were advised to move in convoys, he maintained. Several new initiatives had been introduced, including a comprehensive insurance scheme covering not just the yatris, but also ponywallas and other service providers, the LG said. However, helicopter service had been suspended this year due to recent chopper accidents and security concerns, he revealed. He added that this would not affect the overall flow of the yatra as only a small percentage of pilgrims used the helicopter service. Sinha said SASB had developed several pilgrim-centric amenities over the past two years, including widening of both the yatra routes to around 12ft along most stretches. Safer yatra tracks have been prepared with stronger safety handrails all along the Baltal track and over 20 km on vulnerable stretches on the Pahalgam track. He said the tracks and camps would have power connectivity till the holy cave and from there to Panjtarni. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visits Lord Jagannath temple in Digha
Digha (West Bengal) [India], June 26 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Lord Jagannath temple in Digha in West Bengal on Thursday, ahead of Jagannath Rath Yatra scheduled to start on June 27. CM Mamata Banerjee said, 'Lord Jagannath temple has become a major place of pilgrimage. The Rath Yatra will be held on a 1 km route from 9 am to 4 pm tomorrow. The aarti will be performed at 2.30 pm. Our ministerial team has arrived here for this.' The Rs 250 crore temple in Digha, constructed over 20 acres, was inaugurated by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on April 30, 2025. On Wednesday, June 11, Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, held the sacred bathing ritual on the occasion of Snana Purnima in Puri. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway gets driver-friendly touch: 'Wayside amenities' stations ensure safety, comfort for long-haul truckers
Dausa (Rajasthan) [India], June 26 (ANI): The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, counted among the most ambitious and eco-sensitive infrastructure projects by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is steadily becoming a model for world-class and commuter-friendly expressways. Recognising the essential contribution and challenges faced by long-distance truck drivers, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a unique and much-needed initiative, driver-centric Wayside Amenity Stations. So far, nearly 21 such stations have been built on the expressway, with four already operational. These stations aim to provide not just rest, but a sense of comfort and security to drivers who clock 12 to 14 hours daily, often navigating the highways through the night. One such operational facility near Dausa in Rajasthan, developed by NHAI and managed by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), has been aptly named 'Apna Ghar'. True to its name, the station offers a home-like environment to drivers with amenities such as truck parking, CCTV-monitored premises, clean restrooms, bathing areas, self-cooking kitchens, a Dhaba, and free Wi-Fi, all available for just Rs 112 (including GST). On asked how these facilities are being booked and managed, Radha Mohan, Business Manager at IOCL, told ANI, ' Earlier we had 'Swagat' outlets on highways that offered basic facilities like restrooms and food. Now, we have upgraded versions of those. We're offering air conditioning, water coolers, washing machines, clean open bathing areas, clean restrooms, TVs, free Wi-Fi, and CCTV surveillance across the parking area with live monitoring at our station.' 'If a driver doesn't want to cook, we also offer affordable meals. For under Rs 130, a complete meal is available at our dhaba. Any truck driver can come here and rest. We know that they travel long distances and suffer fatigue, which increases the risk of accidents. So the concept was to provide such facilities on highways where they can rest and refresh themselves safely.' On booking facilities, Radha Mohan added: 'Currently, we have 35 beds available here and the charges are Rs 112 including GST. Drivers can make bookings using the 'Apna Ghar' app. If someone is unaware of the app, our petrol pump staff are trained to assist. Our managers stationed here also help drivers with the booking process. Once the app is downloaded and used, drivers have no issues making future bookings. On average, about 50-60 per cent of the beds are booked daily, meaning that a significant number of drivers are already using this facility every day.' In addition to essential facilities, these wayside amenity stations are also equipped with a range of convenient services to enhance the overall travel experience. These include fuel pumps for quick refuelling, restaurants and dhabas offering wholesome thalis and quick snacks, and EV charging stations to support electric vehicles. There are dedicated parking bays for buses and trucks, motels for longer stays, and play areas for children. By integrating such comprehensive services under one roof, NHAI's initiative marks a significant step toward safer highways, reduced fatigue-related accidents, and enhanced dignity for India's unsung highway warriors, the truck drivers.
