Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit, featuring Prabhas, has been grabbing headlines for quite some time. According to reports, the actress, who recently welcomed motherhood, stipulated that she would not work more than 8 hours a day during the shoot.
Now, Mani Ratnam, who is gearing up for the release of Thug Life, came out in support of Deepika and said that if one is in that position to seek that demand then it is valid.

'I think it is a rightful demand. I'm glad she's in a position to ask for it. I think as a filmmaker, you will take that into consideration when you cast. It is not an unreasonable thing to ask, but an absolute necessity. I think that should be the priority. You have to acknowledge that, understand it and work around it,' said Ratnam while talking to News18.
A few days ago, Ajay Devgn had also supported the actress at the trailer launch of Maa and had said, 'It's not that it's not going down well with people. Most of the honest filmmakers will not have problems with it. And apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, most people have started working eight-nine hours shifts.'
When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are....

Kamal Haasan thanks TN for supporting him on language row

Chennai: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan who stood his ground refusing to apologise for his 'Kannada was born from Tamil' remark, thanked Tamil Nadu for firmly backing him during the controversy. "I thank Tamil Nadu for standing with me," Kamal said in his first public appearance since the controversy broke out. I now feel the true meaning of the words Uyire (my life), Urave (my kin), Tamizhe, which I say often" Kamal said at an event organised here on Wednesday to promote his movie 'Thug Life. ' Though he did not delve further into the controversy, Kamal expressed gratitude for the support from several politicians, film personalities, activists and authors for his remarks on Kannada. Municipal administration minister K N Nehru too extended support to Kamal saying that south Indian languages originated from Tamil. Even after the Karnataka high court rapped Kamal, the actor remained defiant and refused to apologise stating that 'love does not apologise.' Though the movie is releasing worldwide on June 5, Kamal has chosen not to release it in Karnataka where political outfits as well as the film industry demanded an apology from him for the remark. Film industry insiders say that the film could have done a business of upto 35 crore in Karnataka given the fact that his earlier hit Vikram's box office collection in Karnataka was around 22 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo However, the 35 crore estimate would be the total collection out of which the producer's share would be around 10 to 12 crores. Tamil film producers say that Bengaluru is the only big market for Tamil films in Karnataka and there was a likelihood of Kamal fans driving down to Hosur which is 40 kms to watch Thug Life. In any case, there is also the possibility for a settlement with Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce enabling the film's release in Karnataka.

The much-anticipated film has become a murder thriller this time with multiple endings, featuring multiple killers. It is said to be released on June 6. Ahead of its release, the advance bookings have predicted the fate of Housefull 5. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has so far sold 96,304 tickets for 11,700 shows across India in all formats. It has collected ₹ 2.85 crore from its ticket sales. It is believed that the film, the fifth installment in the franchise, will have the widest release with over 5,000 screenings in India alone, as per reports. Housefull 5 will clash with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life which will be released a day ahead of Housefull 6's opening. It will also clash with Maddock Films' Bhool Chuk Maaf, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. Meanwhile, film trade analysts are yet to share the early predictions for Housefull 5. The film features an ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Johny Lever and the leading ladies Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa and Soundarya Sharma. Housefull 5 is billed as the most expensive installment of the Housefull series, and also the most expensive comedy film in India. The film's total budget is to be around ₹ 225 crore, without print and advertisement costs, suggested reports. However, the makers had shared earlier that the film was initially set with a budget of ₹ 350 crore. The budget came down after going through casting changes.

Amid Kannada Language Row, Kamal Haasan Reacts To Bengaluru Stampede: 'Heart-Wrenching Tragedy'

Last Updated: Kamal Haasan mourned the Bengaluru stampede victims amid his film's release row, saying his 'heart reaches out' to affected families. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has expressed grief over the tragic stampede near Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and injured 33 others. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, as thousands gathered for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory celebrations. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kamal wrote, 'Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon." Heart wrenching tragedy in Bangalore. Deeply distressed and my heart reaches out to the families of the victims in this moment of grief. May the injured recover soon.— Kamal Haasan (@ikamalhaasan) June 4, 2025 Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the stampede occurred due to an overwhelming crowd at the stadium, where RCB players were to be felicitated following their IPL 2025 win. He described it as an 'unexpected tragedy" and announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, along with a magisterial inquiry. The RCB team, including star player Virat Kohli, had earlier visited Vidhana Soudha to meet CM Siddaramaiah before proceeding to the stadium for the public celebrations. Eyewitnesses noted that fans began scaling walls and fences, leading to the chaos that triggered the stampede. Kamal Haasan's reaction came amid an ongoing controversy over his recent comments on the Kannada language. The veteran actor had earlier remarked that Kannada originated from Tamil, a statement that triggered backlash from several Kannada groups. Though he clarified that his remarks were meant to express affection for the late Kannada icon Dr Rajkumar and his family, demands for an apology persisted. Speaking to the media ahead of the pan-India release of his upcoming film Thug Life, Haasan refrained from re-addressing the language row. He added, 'I will speak at length later, as a Tamil who wants to speak a lot." The film is scheduled for release across India and globally on Friday, except in Karnataka. Haasan had sought court protection for the film's release in the state, but later confirmed that Thug Life would not be released in Karnataka following observations from the Karnataka High Court. Sources close to him said, 'There can be no demand for an apology in a gunpoint situation," referring to alleged pressure from fringe groups. First Published: June 05, 2025, 00:44 IST
