Kajol, Ajay Devgn react to ‘8-hour work shift' demand for working moms amid Deepika Padukone-Sandeep Reddy Vanga row: ‘You should be able to…'

The makers of Maa, starring Kajol and backed by her husband-actor Ajay Devgn, released the trailer of the film on Thursday. During the trailer launch of the movie, the actor couple was asked about their opinion on the reduced number of work hours for mothers, amid Deepika Padukone and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit row. Deepika walked out of Vanga's Spirit, with sources citing that her demand for 8-hour workday, among many others, was not met by the filmmaker. When a journalist asked if the demand of working an 8-hour for a mom is appropriate, Kajol replied, 'Well, I love the fact that you can work less and…' Ajay apologised for interrupting her and said, 'It is not like it's not going well with the people. Many are understanding it now. Most of the industry, I would say, will not have a problem with this. And apart from this being a mother and working for 8 hours, you should be able to start working for 8 to 9 hours shift. So I think it's person-to-person, but most of the industry does understand nowadays.' Deepika Padukone and Sandeep Reddy Vanga stirred up a controversy after their reported fallout in Prabhas starrer Spirit. Several reports earlier suggested that Deepika opted out of due to remuneration issues, and her conditions around the work hours, in the wake of her motherhood journey. Soon after the speculations, it was officially announced that Triptii Dimri will be playing the female lead in Spirit. What We Know About Spirit So Far, From The Fights To The Leaks

New Delhi: Two of the country's biggest stars were reportedly set to collaborate with a filmmaker, infamous for his political incorrectness but equally trusted with his 'animalistic' instinct when it comes to hitting the jackpot at the box office. Deepika Padukone, Prabhas and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga seem like a unlikely trio to come together for Spirit because each of them represent a different kind of cinema and filmmaking sensibilities. And, yet it appeared to be a winning combination, precisely because of the acclaim, popularity, and mass reach put together, at least on paper. Perhaps it was. What Happened In a recent interview to Marie Claire, Deepika Padukone spoke about how a filmmaker said she was "taking motherhood very seriously" when he asked her to meet him. 'I don't know if [work] will be what it used to be before I had a baby, and I don't even know if I want to be that way…is [this] my new routine and schedule? Let's see how that evolves... He turned around and said, 'Oh, looks like she's taking motherhood very seriously'. I don't know if that was a compliment or a jab. What does that mean, taking motherhood seriously? Yeah,' she said. Deepika Padukone, true to her style, never took names but rumours mills started working overtime to find out who she could be talking about. A few days later, a Bollywood Hungama report emerged that Deepika Padukone had quit Spirit over remuneration and work-life balance issues as well as her unwillingness to dub for the film's Telugu version. Soon, Sandeep Reddy Vanga officially announced that he had chosen his Animal actor Triptii Dimri as his female lead for Spirit. When The Vanga Vs Deepika Feud (Almost) Became Official Online After the big announcement, the filmmaker went to social media and took an angry jibe at an unnamed senior actor for playing "dirty PR games" and breaking an unsaid non-disclosure agreement (NDA) regarding the story of Spirit. "When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA(Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are.... (Let's do one thing... next time tell the whole story... because I don't even care a bit) #dirtyPRgames," Vanga wrote on X. When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. "Whenever I'm faced with complicated or difficult situations, to be able to listen to my inner voice and just stand by decisions that really give me a lot of peace is when I feel most in equilibrium," she said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vogue Arabia (@voguearabia) What Is Spirit About? The film is dubbed as a cop action drama, led by Baahubali star Prabhas. The project was announced in 2021 with Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Pranay Reddy Vanga of Bhadrakali Pictures as producers. A recent report in Pinkvilla stated that the heroine's character in Spirit is the "most well-written female role in the world of Sandeep Reddy Vanga". "Deepika was truly impressed by the depth and detail of her character and the script. She's excited to work with Vanga for the first time," the website reported, quoting an anonymous source. Reports also said that Spirit would have "bold sequences" and would aim for an 'A' rating with the Central Board of Film Certification. In March, there was speculation online with social media users alleging that the story of Spirit had similarities to the Tamil film Theri (2016). In A Nutshell Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone got into tussle over Spirit offline. The director then took the feud to X just after announcing that he had chosen Triptii Dimri, the breakout star of his 2023 film Animal, as his official female lead. Deepika Padukone seemingly responded to the filmmaker's jibe through international press. The biggest winner in this feud? Triptii Dimri. She will reportedly walk away with Rs 6 crore as Spirit fees, claimed to be her highest paycheque.

Deepika Padukone vs Sandeep Reddy Vanga: Allegations based on sheer rage

I didn't watch director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 2023 film Animal, which was widely decried for being violently misogynistic. What I heard about it was enough, and I know many women also made the choice not to subject themselves to it. It was preceded by Arjun Reddy in 2017, which I watched a few minutes of and clicked off. Now, the controversial director has taken to social media to publicly berate an unnamed actor, and to question her feminism. It is known that his next venture, entitled Spirit, initially had Deepika Padukone in the lead role, and that she has been replaced by Triptii Dimri, following her exit due to 'creative differences'. In a post dated May 26th , Vanga said: 'When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA [Non Disclosure Agreement] between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are.... Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for? (sic).' He accused the actor of playing dirty PR games, and expressed other grievances. It is widely presumed that the post is a dig at Padukone, who has not yet released any statement about her departure from the project. In the cinema industry, there's no such thing as an unsaid NDA. NDAs are aplenty, and signed for all kinds of things, however minor, and a person who chooses not to have that contract in place before sharing sensitive material is doing so knowingly, or foolishly. NDAs in and of themselves are problematic. For one, they have long been used against people to prevent them from lodging sexual harassment or other exploitation cases — across industries. For another, they are also used to unethically gain control over intellectual property. In the entertainment industry in particular, storylines created by screenwriters are known to frequently wind up in permanent limbo; the artist loses copyright just through the pitch, and cannot take their story elsewhere.

‘What keeps me balanced is…': Deepika Padukone on 'dealing with difficult situations' amid feud with Sandeep Reddy Vanga

Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone talked about how she deals with difficult or complicated situations in a new interview from Sweden. She said in such situations she is able to listen to her inner voice which leads her towards peace. Her comments arrive amid her fallout with filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga over his film Spirit. Sandeep recently shared an angry tweet which many assume is for Deepika who has now been replaced by Triptii Dimri in the film. Amid this, Deepika was asked about what keeps her balanced in her interview with Vogue Arabia. She replied, 'What keeps me balanced is just being truthful, authentic. Whenever I'm faced with complicated or difficult situations, to be able to listen to my inner voice and just stand by decisions that really give me a lot of peace is when I feel most in equilibrium.' 'I just listen to my gut, to what feels right. I think it's easier said than done but I think it's when you shut out the noise around you and just listen to your gut. I think the answers are always there. Wanting to collaborate with people I know I'm going to have a good time working with, surrounding myself with family and friends, and being authentic is how I feel I'm able to find my balance,' also added the new mom about balancing personal and professional life. Deepika was at a Cartier event for its High Jewelry collection 'En Équilibre' in Stockholm, Sweden. While she did not comment directly on her fallout with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, many believe she dropped a subtle hint after Vanga's post went viral. On Monday, Vanga shared an angry tweet, without mentioning anyone's name, he also accused an actor of playing "dirty PR games". "When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, You've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are.... Putting down a Younger actor and ousting my story? (Let's do one thing... next time tell the whole story... because I don't even care a bit) #dirtyPRgames," Vanga shared. Spirit stars Prabhas in the lead.
