St Patrick's Day 2025: Everything happening in Leicester's streets, pubs and bars
St Patrick's Day may not be a national holiday in the UK but we still celebrate it in our masses, and Leicester is no exception. This year the patron Saint of Ireland's big day falls on a Monday, but fear not the city will still be putting on a good show the weekend before.
Monday, March 17, is St Patrick's Day this year and there are a plethora of venues across the region that have got some fun-filled activities planned, involving Guinness, live music and even oysters. Open up your diaries, note down whatever tickles your fancy and douse yourself in green for the occasion.

St Patrick's Day Parade
The annual Leicester St Patrick's Day parade is coming to town on Sunday, March 16 at 12 noon and will wind its way through the city, meeting at 11.45am on New Walk next to Holy Cross Church.
Irish or not, everyone is welcome to join the parade that will turn the streets of Leicester into a sea of green, blasting Irish music to the high heavens. The crowd will be led by the Emerald club's Irish pipe band and it will finish at the Clock Tower for more music, speeches and dancing.
Emerald Club Afterparty
If you think you might be left wanting more after the parade - the Emerald Club's afterparty tickets are available to grab now for £7 - under 16's get free entry. The party will continue at the Nott's Club with doors opening from 1.30pm, and you can enjoy music by Declan Gaynor, as well as dancing and food. The Rutland & Derby Arms
This Irish pub will be putting on a feast for the parade-goers with its Guinness and Oyster Festival returning for the 11th year. The pub offers a taste of Dublin's Temple Bar, with Irish-inspired music, Guinness and freshly shucked oysters being the focus.
From Friday, March 14 to Monday, March 17 there will be three days of street food - off their menu which launched last year - and live music. The Craic will perform on Saturday and Tara Simms will play on Sunday evening. For full details visit their Instagram page.
Katie O'Brien's Irish Tavern
In the central location of Market Street, Katie O'Brien's is your best bet to stay in on the action. For St Patrick's Day they will be putting on four days of live music and sports from Friday, March 14.

Authentic Irish bar O'Neill's has a sturdy line up of St Patrick's Day events. Beginning from Tuesday 11 March and ending on the big day itself there will be a host of entertainment and drinks deals on offer.
There will be a special St, Paddy's Day with Happy Hour from 12pm-4pm on Monday, March 17, but there will also be a St. Pat's Eve party with top notch entertainment and plenty of drinks deals in Leicester. Barnacles restaurant bar and bistro, Hinckley
If you fancy something a bit more relaxed and don't mind venturing out of town - Barnacles could be your man. On Saturday, March 15, their Irish themed night will serve you up wood-fired pizza by The Pizza Box and music from Josh Darby and Fern Duffy to keep you dancing all night.
The tent will open for drinks from 6pm onwards, with the live music commencing around 8.30pm. There will be five ten-inch pizzas to choose from and there will be vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free options. There will also be a number of drinks promotions and offers on Guinness and a free shot if you prove you can "Split the G" of your stout. One of New York City's biggest music festivals, the Governors Ball (aka Gov Ball), is back soon, with three days filled with concerts, dancing, and general merriment. The 15th edition takes place in Queens at Flushing Meadows Corona Park from Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8, with headliners like pop star Olivia Rodrigo, rapper Tyler the Creator, and Irish singer-songwriter Hozier. What's nice about the Governors Ball's food lineup is that there are a bunch of familiar New York restaurants and vendors, some sourced straight from the neighboring Queens Night Market (which will be taking place on Saturday, June 7, so you can check it out at the same time). To help make dining at Governors Ball easier, Eater put together this handy guide on what and where to eat during the music festival. General Governors Ball Festival Tips We all know this, right? No outside food or drinks are allowed inside the grounds. It's an outdoor event — wear comfortable shoes! It looks like temperatures will be in the low 80s on Friday and 70s the other two days during the daytime, with drops to the 60s in the evenings. So wear sunscreen — only small containers with creams, lotions, and sticks creams are allowed; drink lots of water (you can bring in plastic and metal bottles because there are water stations); and bring a layer like a cardigan or a light jacket for when it gets chillier. Currently, there are chances of rain this weekend — 47 percent on Saturday and 40 percent on Sunday — but umbrellas aren't allowed. Little bags are fine, but bigger bags need to be clear; double-check your measurements. No cash is accepted. Bypass the straight-up chili — come on, you're at a music festival — for chili cheese fries. ‘Paper Flowers' by Tim O'Brien and Jan Fabricius Review: Romance and Reflections
In a career of over 50 years as a music maker, Tim O'Brien has won recognition, praise and awards in folk music, bluegrass, country and roots rock as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. He was a founder of the progressive bluegrass band Hot Rize in the 1970s, playing fiddle and mandolin, and of the comical honky-tonk and Western-swing offshoot Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers. (Same band members, different getups.) He won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album for the Irish-music-saluting 'Fiddler's Green,' and shared in the 2014 Best Bluegrass Album Grammy as a member of the Flatt & Scruggs-saluting Earls of Leicester. His 2017 album, 'Where the River Meets the Road,' celebrated the music of his native West Virginia; the state's Music Hall of Fame had inducted him by 2013. His songs have been recorded by everyone from Garth Brooks to Alison Krauss, and he's also toured and recorded solo and in folk duets with his sister, Mollie, and with Darrell Scott. For the past decade, he's been performing live with his wife, singer and mandolinist Jan Fabricius, and written songs with her, but they'd not gotten around to recording together until now, with their charming collaborative album 'Paper Flowers' (Howdy Skies, June 6).

Former Notre Dame All-American Bobby Taylor speaks to football team in South Bend Former Notre Dame All-American Bobby Taylor returned to South Bend and gave a speech to the football team Tuesday, the Fighting Irish posted on social media. The cornerback, who played for the Irish from 1992-94, spoke to the team about the transition to the NFL. Taylor works as a football operations strategic advisor for the league. Taylor recorded five interceptions with the Irish, earning consensus All-American honors in 1994. He was drafted No. 50 overall by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent the first nine years of his career. Taylor finished third in defensive rookie of the year voting in 1995 and was a Pro Bowler in 2002. He finished his time in the pros with a season with the Seattle Seahawks. During his pro career, Taylor finished with 384 tackles and 19 interceptions. Irish star running back Jeremiyah Love is projected to be the current team's highest pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
