Swansea to appoint Celtic's O'Dea as assistant boss
In March, Sheehan added former team-mates Richard Stearman and Mark Fotheringham to his backroom team on short-term deals.
But after being appointed Swansea's head coach on a permanent basis, Sheehan said further changes to his staff were likely during the close season.
He has been targeting his fellow Irishman O'Dea since taking over as Swansea's interim head coach in February.
The 38-year-old is currently on Celtic's staff under former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers.
As a player, O'Dea represented the likes of Celtic, Reading, Leeds United, Blackpool and Dundee as well as having spells in Canada, Ukraine and India.
Dublin-born O'Dea won 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland having played international youth football in the same sides as Sheehan, who is also 38.
O'Dea began his coaching career at Motherwell before returning to Celtic in 2019.
He was initially under-18s boss before stepping up to take charge of Celtic B in 2021, and became player pathway manager in 2024.

Alan Sheehan's Oli McBurnie admission as Swansea City boss talks about Kone and Erabi links
Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan says he personally spoke to Oli McBurnie as part of an unsuccessful attempt to bring the striker back to the club this summer. McBurnie was a free agent after leaving Spanish side Las Palmas earlier in the window, with the Swans one of several sides to take an interest. There had initially been some hope the Swans might be able to get a deal done, despite alleged interest from Sheffield United and Ipswich Town. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. It's understood Swansea made what they felt was a generous offer to the striker, but Sheehan says the player's decision wasn't purely down to finances. "I have spoken to Oli," he said. "I've obviously known Oli a long time, but I understand his reasoning. His personal and family reasons. "So I respect that, and I will return his call now and we'll talk about it. But look, this is the way football is. "Potentially there was a bit of everything [not just finances]. It just didn't end up going in the right direction for different reasons. "But look, it happens. It's football and we get on with it." Swansea remain in the market for a new striker before the close of the window, but Sheehan has confirmed a move for Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone is now looking unlikely. Sources close to negotiations claim Swansea have already had two bids knocked back for the 22-year-old, who's also attracted interest from Preston North End, Toulouse and Leicester City this summer. They were previously expected to return with a third bid, but with Wycombe playing hardball over their £5m valuation of the player, it seems they are now assessing other options. "I don't think there'll be a lot of movement on that," Sheehan added when quizzed on the Ivorian. "There's been a lot of noise really on certain things." WalesOnline understands Hammarby striker Jusef Erabi is another name on Swansea's list, with reports in Sweden claiming City have already had two bids of around £3m knocked back already for the 22-year-old. "I can't tell you a whole lot about that," Sheehan responded when asked about the Swede, who has 29 goals in 93 appearances to his name. "I know the player. He's a decent player." But while coy on his side's apparent pursuit of a striker, Sheehan admits fresh additions are needed before the close of the window, despite the club adding a sixth signing of the summer in West Ham United loanee Kaelan Casey. "Depth-wise I would say so," he said. "I think we've lost a lot of people from the building. A lot of experience, and I think we've brought in some good players. "But I think everybody at the football club is aware that we need a couple more bodies." It's understood the club have made good progress on a couple of deals in recent days, with midfield and the back line identified as other areas ripe for further strengthening. Another winger is still a possibility should the right option arise. "I think the recruitment strategy's been really aggressive," Sheehan added. "Obviously we got work done early and then it's potentially gone a bit quite as the market changes and in different places. "So within that, we're still trying to get stuff done. Swansea begin their Championship campaign with a trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan delivers Malick Yalcouye transfer update as loan deal draws near
Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan says he hopes to have Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Malick Yalcouye on board in time for his side's clash with Sheffield United at the weekend. The midfielder is understood to be on the brink of joining the Swans on a season-long loan, and was in the crowd to watch City ease to a 3-1 win over Crawley in the Carabao Cup. The teenager is set to complete a medical at the club on Wednesday, with the club hoping to have international clearance in time for him to face the Blades on Saturday. Sheehan himself is clearly excited by what the Ivorian may bring, and is hoping the move will be made official soon. "Hopefully we close that tomorrow," he said after the win over Crawley on Tuesday night. "We're delighted to have him in the building, he's a player that will improve us. A player with so much energy, and so highly-rated. "He's had some top league clubs after him, so for him to give us the opportunity to present to him, and for him to decide to come here is obviously wonderful. "We'll look after him and he adds to the depth of the squad." Swansea were not the only club keen on taking him for the season, with the likes of Toulouse and FC Copenhagen among the other sides credited with an interest. "I think when you know the level of clubs that were after him, for him to believe in what we want to do here for him to decide to come here, I think it shows that we're doing some good work," Sheehan added. "We're talking about European top leagues. We know there were a good few after his services, but look we're happy to have him here." Asked what sort of impact the new arrival could have, the Swans boss added: "He's relentless. He'll bring so much energy and athleticism, and he's a player that can play multiple positions on the sides, in the middle. "Ultimately he's going to improve us. We spoke about the depth of our squad and wanting to improve that by bringing in a good calibre. It's not just bringing anybody. There's a lot of players that want to come here, but we want to bring the right ones that are good for the football club." Should the move be completed in time, it remains to be seen what sort of role Yalcouye will play this weekend, but Sheehan clearly feels the youngster could have some part to play. "He's been involved with Brighton in pre-season, and we'll have to see in training where he's at. We might have to integrate him into it. "But I imagine he could come into the squad on Saturday."

Swansea City closing in on sensational move for highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder
Swansea City are on the brink of completing a loan move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Malick Yalcouye. WalesOnline understands an agreement has been reached to take the 19-year-old on loan for the upcoming season, with the player set to undergo a medical set to take place on Wednesday. The Ivorian is in attendance to watch his new side take on League Two side Crawley Town on Tuesday night, with the club hoping to have his international clearance through before Saturday's clash at home to Sheffield United. READ MORE: Pleasing Swansea City player ratings as summer signing shines bright in Crawley win READ MORE: Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan delivers Malick Yalcouye transfer update as loan deal draws near Yalcouye, who can play either out wide or as a number eight, is seen as one of the most exciting youngsters on Brighton's books right now, and there had previously been suggestions he might in the first team picture this season. But despite some impressive performances for Albion in pre-season, another loan spell has been viewed as the best next step in his development. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here. Toulouse and FC Copenhagen had previously been credited with an interest in recent weeks, but Swansea appear to have won the race for his signature. The midfielder spent last season on loan at Austrian champions Sturm Graz, and even played eight times in their Champions League campaign, a run that also saw him named Player of the Match against Borussia Dortmund. He signed a five-year deal with the Seagulls last summer, and there's a growing feeling on the English south coast that he has the skillset to one day shine in the Premier League following a meteoric rise. Eligible to represent Ivory Coast and Mali, he signed for Albion after making just 14 outings for previous club IFK Goteburg having previously come through the ranks of Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas, where the likes of Emmanuel Eboue, Gervinho and the Toure brothers all began their careers. His time in Sweden even saw him compared to Ngolo Kante by some onlookers. Yalcouye made 36 appearances in all competitions last term, netting four goals and earning two assists as Graz won the Austrian Bundesliga title, and his capture will come as a huge boost to Alan Sheehan as he bids to add further depth to his squad. He's poised to become Swansea's eighth signing of the summer, with Bobby Wales, Zeidane Inoussa, Ricardo Santos, Cameron Burgess, Ethan Galbraith and Paul Farman all joining on permanent deals. West Ham United youngster Kaelan Casey has also come on board, after arriving on a season-long loan. Meanwhile, the club remain keen on adding more firepower to their ranks before the close of the window, having cooled their interest in QPR-bound Richard Kone. Jusef Erabi is another name to have been considered recently, while reports in France have linked the Swans with Schalke's Moussa Sylla.
