Embrace yoga as way of life: Collector
The event was marked by the participation of several dignitaries including District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Boya Girijamma, Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh, Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, and others who actively performed yoga asanas along with the public.
The district-level event was synchronised with the main Yoga Day celebrations held in Visakhapatnam, which featured prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The Anantapur event was connected live to the Visakhapatnam celebration, following the official yoga protocol.
Addressing the gathering, Collector Dr Vinod Kumar said that more than 5,037 individuals including public representatives, media personnel, and officials participated in the event at the PTC Grounds. In addition, around 10.87 lakh people across 6,040 venues in the district received training during the month-long Yoga Mahotsav with the help of trained instructors.
He expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the programme, including the police, volunteers, NGOs, and media.
He said that Yoga should not be restricted to one day, but should become a daily practice.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson Boya Girijamma expressed joy over the participation of over 5,000 people in the district-level event.
Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh also shared his happiness about participating and reiterated the need for daily yoga practice for a healthier Anantapur.
Officials from AYUSH, DMHO, and other departments were honored with mementos for their contributions.
The event concluded with a yoga pledge, the national anthem, and a mass selfie session at specially arranged selfie points, drawing enthusiastic participation from the public.

Delhi Police briefs over 4,000 private security guards ahead of Independence Day
New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Delhi Police on Sunday held interaction-cum-briefing sessions with more than 4000 private security personnel, or 'Praharis', across all districts for public safety duties during Independence Day and the festive season, officials said. The sessions aimed to reinforce the role of private security guards as partners in maintaining law and order and to brief them on security protocols, including identifying and responding to potential threats, an official statement said. The guards were given guidelines on the dos and don'ts of their duties and provided with security kits comprising a cap, reflective jacket, baton and whistle. Commissioner of Police S B K Singh addressed 'Praharis' at two major programmes — at the Multipurpose Hall, North Campus, University of Delhi, attended by around 800 guards, and at the Lotus Temple auditorium in the South-East district, attended by around 300 guards. 'Praharis are an indispensable link in community policing and their cooperation enhances the reach, responsiveness and effectiveness of law," Singh said. The statement said private security personnel who attended Saturday's briefings in different districts included — south east (300), south (305), Rohini (300), outer north (383), north west (215), west (230), outer (160), Dwarka (362), Shahdara (238), east (253), north east (194), south west (180), New Delhi (97), north (400) and central (400). During the interactive meetings, guards were advised to conduct polite but firm frisking where required, maintain constant observation of surroundings, report suspicious persons or activities to police, stay alert to unattended items and assist in crowd management during celebrations, the statement added. Gujarat Confidential: ‘Suraksha Bandhan'
Taking a unique way, the Vadodara city police decided to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Saturday with two-wheeler riders, in order to convey a message of 'inescapable' fines for not wearing helmets, coming into effect from September 15. In an attempt to deter riders from zooming on their two-wheelers without helmets, the Vadodara city police, led by Commissioner of Police Narasimha Komar and Joint Commissioner of Police Leena Patil, stopped two-wheeler riders and tied a rakhi on their wrists to celebrate 'Suraksha Bandhan'. Along with sweets, the riders were served the message of 'wearing the helmet unfailingly' to 'protect themselves' and follow the traffic rules. Interestingly, Vadodara BJP Lok Sabha MP Hemang Joshi on Friday made a public statement urging the city police to ensure strict enforcement of helmet rules. Joshi said, 'If you get calls from political leaders, pressuring you to set anyone free in a helmet- related offence, divert their calls to me. There can be no escaping this rule as it is for the safety of all.' Probe & Chaos The recent suspension of Vadodara Municipal Corporation's Head of Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Devesh Patel, Chief Fire Officer Manoj Patil, and Deputy Fire Officer Naitik Bhatt over an alleged Rs 3.17 crore procurement scam has raised questions about the role of the scrutiny committee, third-party inspections, and the Standing Committee seemingly turning a blind eye to the process of tendering and procurement. The controversy took a chaotic turn late on Friday night when Committee Chairman Dr Sheetal Mistry 'summoned' the current in-charge Deputy Fire Officer, Amit Chaudhary, to bring the controversial items and tools for inspection. As Chaudhary arrived with the fire personnel, carrying a huge and heavy sack of the items to Mistry's office, members of the Vishwamitri Bachao Samiti, a citizens group, questioned the motive. Advocate Shailesh Amin, who is part of the group and was also present on the VMC premises when the fire officials arrived with the items, asked as to why the chairman summoned the fire officers without keeping the municipal commissioner in the loop. 'If the Standing Committee has claimed that inspecting the tender details does not come under its purview, then whose jurisdiction is it to physically inspect the controversial items. This is the same Standing Committee, which, in many instances, returns proposals citing inflated bill amounts… We have demanded that the state government must include the VMC under its 'Operation Gangajal' initiative.' Incidentally, Amin had, on Friday morning, dashed a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel demanding 'Operation Gangajal' — the state government initiative to take action against allegedly corrupt officials — in the VMC.
