IN-SPACe grants 5-year authorisation to Starlink for satellite services in India
BENGALURU: The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has authorised Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited (SSCPL), a New Delhi-based entity, to deploy and operate its low earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation — Starlink Gen1 — in India.
Starlink, operated globally by Elon Musk-led SpaceX, has been seeking to enter the Indian market for some time. And the approval, dated July 8 and valid until July 7, 2030, marks a significant step in enabling satellite-based broadband services across the country, with SSCPL now authorised to provide satellite communication services using the Starlink Gen1 network.
This global constellation comprises 4,408 satellites operating at altitudes between 540km and 570km, and is capable of delivering a cumulative throughput of approximately 600 Gbps over Indian territory.
The authorisation is valid for five years from the date of issuance or until the end of the operational life of the Gen1 constellation — whichever comes earlier. IN-SPACe clarified that the commercial rollout of services will still require all necessary regulatory approvals, clearances, and licences from relevant government departments.
IN-SPACe's clearance forms part of India's broader effort to liberalise the satellite communication sector and increase private participation in space-based services.

With this authorisation, SSCPL now has a regulatory foothold to proceed with service deployment plans, although it will still need to secure spectrum allocation and other clearances from the Department of Telecommunications and other bodies.
Officials at IN-SPACe described the development as a key milestone in expanding India's satellite communications ecosystem and supporting next-generation broadband access using space technology.

PCMC to post draft DP in Marathi for wider reach deadline to send views long over
Pune: The state govt has told Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to translate its draft Development Plan (DP) into Marathi and republish it online for better public understanding. The original draft, published in English this May, was open for public suggestions and objections until July 14. The demand for a Marathi version came from Maval's Shiv Sena MP Shrirang Barne who wrote to the state govt last month stating that many residents were unable to submit their objections to the proposed reservations mentioned in the draft due to lack of understanding of English. In response to his letter on July 6, the state govt, on July 30, instructed PCMC to act on the request, citing instructions from the office of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde. He clarified that the statutory timeline will remain unaffected and the draft will not be reopened for additional suggestions or objections. Barne, in his letter to Shinde, said, "As per section 4(2) of Maharashtra Official Languages Act 2021, all municipal corporations and councils in the state should do their administrative works in Marathi. The Shiv Sena MP added that govt should intervene to publish the draft in Marathi. The municipal corporation received over 49,500 suggestions and objections from citizens. The civic body has already initiated the process of segregating them to prepare for final hearings which will be conducted by the state govt-appointed committee. As per the standard procedure, the committee will prepare a final version of the draft after hearings, which will be sent to the state govt for final approval. Dhanaji Yelkar, convenor of Swabhimani Ghar Bachao Movement, formed to oppose the proposed HCMTR project in the draft, said there is no point in translating the draft when people cannot object to it. Sanjeevan Sangle, chairman of Chikhali Moshi Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation, said the municipal corporation should allow citizens to file their objections after the translated draft is published. A senior civic official said that DP drafts are prepared in English due to the content's technical nature, and no previous attempts were made to publish them in Marathi. Several municipal corporations in the state recently published their drafts, and all of them were in English, he said. The officer further clarified that there are no legal mandates to prepare these drafts in Marathi. MLAs and MLCs from Pimpri Chinchwad voiced strong objections to the reservations listed in the draft Development Plan (DP), demanding its cancellation. They also raised the issue during the recently concluded assembly session, alleging that the committee responsible for drafting the plan imposed reservations on many residential structures. BJP MLA from Chinchwad Shankar Jagtap said, "The whole draft was prepared using wrong methods as reservations were also proposed on properties where building permissions were granted by the municipal corporation." Another BJP MLA Mahesh Landge said at least 850 reservations from the old DP were again mentioned in the draft. "The civic body has put reservations on many religious temples, which must be cancelled, and the hearings of all the objections must happen in an unbiased manner," he said. Several religious groups also expressed concerns over the proposed reservation for a slaughterhouse in Moshi, located about 4 km from Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj temple in Alandi. In response to the public outcry, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, during a public event last month, announced that this reservation would be withdrawn. Minister of state for urban development, Madhuri Misal assured the legislators that the draft could be cancelled by the CM if it was found beyond rectification. However, she said that it would be wrong to cancel it before conducting hearings on the objections. "Govt will ensure that there is no injustice to anyone when the final draft is approved," she added. Head: Area covers 173.24 sqkm Draft DP for PCMC was published online for citizens on May 16 Citizens had time until July 14 to file their suggestions and objections Over 49,500 suggestions and objections were received from citizens on the draft The draft DP covers a 173.24 sqkm area and was prepared keeping in mind the projected population (Pimpri Chinchwad) of 42 lakh in 2031 and 61 lakh by 2041 What Next? PCMC will segregate the suggestions and objections to avoid duplication Similar demands will be clubbed, and the final list will be kept for hearings A state govt-appointed committee will conduct public hearings on these matters The final draft will be sent to the chief minister for approval Instead of raising the language issue, the MP should have demanded cancellation of the draft. He realised it very late, and it is just an attempt to show that he is doing something for people. If he wanted to, he would have approached his party chief Eknath Shinde, who leads the urban development ministry, and got the draft cancelled Dhanaji Yelkar I Convenor, Swabhimani Ghar Bachao Movement Many people who were unable to understand Marathi failed to file their objections, and they should be given the opportunity as civic bodies are run for them. Housing societies cautioned against fake tenant registration documents; QR code verification soon
Pune: With a spike in fake, tampered, or unregistered tenant registration documents being submitted to housing societies, the Association of Service Providers has sounded an alert to all society committees across Maharashtra. Several recent cases revealed tenants submitting forged leave and licence agreements, often altered PDF copies created by local agents. "Societies need to be vigilant. Fake documents can land owners in legal trouble. Many tenants submit altered PDFs instead of officially registered documents as they are fleeced. They need to do it through a proper agent," association president Sachin Shinghavi said, adding that a robust verification mechanism is the need of the hour. In one case, a society member discovered a forged document only after checking it with the registration department. "An agent edited the document and submitted it as genuine. Only after showing it to officials did we realise it was fake," the member said and added that the department initiated action against the agent. You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune To curb such cases, the association that helps out with tenant registrations has urged societies to insist on viewing a official digital copy of the registered agreement, which has a unique registration number and is accessible via the state IGR (Inspector General of Registration) portal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo State govt should have authorised service providers in place to help people as was the case previously, it said. Shinghavi also highlighted issues in the current leave and licence 1.9 software, where police verification is often missing despite being mandatory. "Though the process includes Aadhaar verification, witness details, address confirmation, and sharing data with police via CCTNS, loopholes remain as in some fake documents these are not seen, which needs to be checked thoroughly using the department website," he said. To address this, the registration department introduced a QR code-based verification in Mumbai City and suburbs under the leave and licence 2.0 software. "The QR code allows instant verification and ensures police verification is auto-generated," said deputy inspector general (IT) Abhay Mohite. Work is under way to expand this feature across Maharashtra, he said. Housing federation members stressed that landlords bear the brunt of fake registrations, and called for a simplified, transparent system. Tenants, too, have fallen victims. "An agent promised me that the agreement was registered, but it turned out to be fake. There should be a way for tenants to verify the process themselves," said Seema N, a tenant in Pune.
