'Great example of humanity': Shahzad Shaikh lost life while rescuing minor girl from drain in Mumbai, family awaits financial help
At around 3 pm on May 18, Shaikh took a break for lunch from his mason's work and was home when he heard cries of people in the neighbourhood. He went out and found that the minor girl who had fallen in the drain was crying for help. He jumped into the drain, lifted the girl up, and handed her over to another man, but he himself got stuck in the slush. Sonali survived. However, Shaikh struggled to come out but could not. He was found over two hours later, and the fire brigade and Pantnagar police took him to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Originally from Bahraich (UP), Shaikh, along with his wife Rukhsar and four children (three sons, one daughter), lived in a rented house at the Ramabai Colony. Sonali, with her mother Asha, also a daily wager, lives in the same neighbourhood. After Shaikh's death while rescuing the minor Hindu girl, Rukhsar, along with her four children, moved to her elder sister's place in Govandi.

Now I am living with my children at my sister's house, and my rented room at Ramabai Colony is locked. But the stay with my sister is temporary. No help has come from anywhere so far," said Rukhsar.
Her brother-in-law Hasnain Khan, a salesman at an electronic shop, said: "Shahzad did not think about the dangers of jumping into the deep drain as he wanted to save the minor girl. Today his own family is in huge trouble. The govt must do something for his family," said Hasnain.
Moved by Shaikh's courage, kind-hearted attitude, and the hardship his family is facing, social worker Saeed Khan has written to CM Devendra Fadnavis, requesting him to sanction a grant for Shahzad's family. "Shahzad did not think a bit that it was a Hindu girl and gave his own life to rescue the minor girl. He set a great example of humanity and his family deserves help," said Khan.
"This is a shining example of humanity winning over narrow communal and casteist prejudice. We must not fail the brave man in his death." Khan added that the NGO Association for Muslim Professionals (AMP) has begun crowdfunding for Shaikh's family.

China's assassination plot in Prague exposes CCP's global terror network
. National security experts are warning that China may repeat its apparent attempt to target Taiwanese political figures abroad, following revelations of a planned harassing incident during former vice president-elect Hsiao Bi-khim's March 2024 visit to Prague, the Taipei Times reported. Czech Military Intelligence confirmed that Chinese agents surveilled Hsiao and devised a plan to orchestrate a car collision with her motorcade. The plot, which never progressed beyond the planning stage, involved a Chinese diplomat tailing Hsiao's vehicle and even planning a "demonstrative incident," the agency told Taipei Times. A diplomat allegedly ran a red light, maintaining close surveillance of the Taiwanese delegation. A National Security Bureau official, requesting anonymity, stated that whether the order came from Beijing or local embassy officials, the scheme revealed China's "cross-border repression" tactics, actions that undermine international norms and diplomatic immunity. The official cited prior CCP operations aimed at Hong Kong activists like singer Denise Ho and analyst Lee Cheng-hao, asserting that Beijing is not hesitant to deploy proxies to intimidate critics abroad. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Joacă în sfârșit cel mai bun joc de strategie 2025 gratuit! Sea of Conquest Joacă acum Undo Professor Wang Zhin-sheng of Central Police University described the incident as a "stress test" of Czech authorities, designed to deter future visits by Taiwanese leaders. He warned, "China's intelligence agencies are not hesitant to test countries, to gauge the tolerance of the host country." He also cautioned that future threats may target high-profile figures, such as former President Tsai Ing-wen. The public unveiling of a potential attack on Hsiao prompted strong international backlash. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council condemned China's tactic as a serious breach of diplomatic conventions and demanded an official apology. The US House Foreign Affairs Committee described it as "criminality on display" and urged broader global condemnation. Taipei Times stressed that the scheme not only endangered Hsiao's life but also signalled an escalation in China's extraterritorial coercion, a tactic that democratic nations must respond to decisively. With rising threats of this nature, experts affirm that states must take a "zero tolerance" stance to protect Taiwanese and other democracy advocates abroad.

Money laundering case: Court rejects Jacqueline Fernandez's plea to junk case; ED says 'prima facie case made out'
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday dismissed Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez 's petition seeking to quash the money laundering case filed against her by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged gifts received from conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. Chandrasekhar and his wife Leena Paulose were arrested and are also accused under the MCOCA. The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, declined to interfere in the ongoing trial proceedings. Justice Anish Dayal pronounced the order, while the detailed judgment will be uploaded in due course. Jacqueline Fernandez had challenged the second supplementary chargesheet filed by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), maintaining that she was an innocent victim manipulated by Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is accused of orchestrating a Rs 200 crore extortion racket from prison. Appearing for Fernandez, Senior Advocate Sidharth Aggarwal argued that being a celebrity should not render someone automatically liable. He pointed out that Sukesh was introduced to her as a businessman and contended that the ED's interpretation of her association as money laundering was flawed. 'Today, I am paying the price of being a celebrity,' Aggarwal said during the hearing. He also questioned the ED's logic that anyone receiving money from someone accused of a crime could be liable under the PMLA — even if they were unaware of the criminal origin of the funds. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Aggarwal added that Fernandez had no knowledge of Sukesh's background at the time. However, the ED countered that Fernandez knowingly accepted luxury gifts from Sukesh despite having learned of his criminal past. ED counsel Zoheb Hossain said Fernandez continued to benefit from proceeds of crime and that her petition was merely an attempt to derail the trial. The ED insisted that its probe was independent from the police case and that the ongoing trial had already seen a special court take cognisance of the charges, establishing a prima facie case.
