Defending champ Kyle Larson returns to Brickyard seeking turnaround

Al Arabiya6 days ago
Kyle Larson raced to his third NASCAR Cup victory of the season at Kansas in mid-May then turned his attention to his second and perhaps final attempt at racing's double–completing all 1100 miles of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Instead, he was hit with a double whammy. A crash on Lap 92 knocked him out of the 500, relegating him to 24th, and two crashes–the second on Lap 245–knocked him out in Charlotte where he finished 37th. Not much has gone right for Larson since then. He posted just one top five finish over the next eight races before finishing fourth at Dover last weekend.
Now the defending Brickyard 400 champion is back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway trying to recharge his season. 'It's great to be back here in Indy and back at the track; hopefully I'll do a much better job than I did in May,' he said Friday. 'It's a privilege to get to run here, and I would love nothing more than a good run and hopefully kind of put the bow on the double stuff.' Only three drivers in race history own back-to-back Brickyard wins–Jimmie Johnson in 2008-09, Kyle Busch in 2015-16, and Kevin Harvick in 2019-20. Larson's won last year on Indy's historic 2.5-mile oval instead of the road course used the previous three years. Most, if not all drivers, including Larson, prefer running the oval.
'There's so many people from all over the world here, whether it be May or our events or really for that matter any events,' Justin Allgaier said. ... 'It's just there's nothing quite like it.' Larson understands, having driven an IndyCar on the oval each of the last two Mays and now back in a Cup car his fourth start in 14 months at the Brickyard. The difference this year: Larson wants to change directions after some sub-par results. But they have not dashed his championship hopes. The 2021 Cup champ is tied for second in wins this season already has accrued 23 playoff points and trails only Hendrick Motorsports teammates Chase Elliott, the 2020 Cup champ, and William Byron in points. Neither Elliott nor Byron has won the 400 though. Neither has Denny Hamlin, who sits just behind Larson in points despite winning a series-best four times including last weekend at Dover. He also signed a two-year contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing on Friday. If he can add a win Sunday to the three he's had in the Daytona 500 and Southern 500 and the one Coca-Cola 600 title, Hamlin would join the short list of drivers who have won all four Cup crown jewel races in their career.
'It certainly would mean a lot to me,' said Hamlin, who has started 16 Brickyards. 'We've come close. We were actually as close on the road course as we were on ovals although I don't know–you could argue whether that (road race) was actually a crown jewel or not. So yeah, highly motivated.' But things already are off script for Larson, Hamlin, and everyone else in Indy. Friday's scheduled practice was rained out, making the second week in a row practice was washed out. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday when temperatures are forecast to be in the mid to upper 80s with rain in the forecast most of the afternoon. The forecast for Sunday looks almost identical to Saturday. That's not what Larson wanted to hear even though race organizers rescheduled a short practice for Saturday afternoon. 'Hopefully our car is good again,' he said before the scheduled practice. 'I believe it should be fast if not better than it was last year. So you know, hopefully we'll have a good practice good qualifying (Saturday) and execute a good race on Sunday.' Larson's goal is simple–qualify up front, stay up front, and stay out of the trouble he's found far too routinely lately.
'When (Christopher Bell) spun (at Dover), I thought I was going to get collected and be like 'Uh oh just continuing our bad luck here,'' he said. 'So hopefully this is the beginning of us to kind of turn things around. We'll see.

MG Teases 2027 Chevrolet Bolt with First Images

Chevrolet's most accessible electric vehicle is coming back—and this time, it's sharper, smarter, and designed to win back the fans it left behind. After its discontinuation in 2023, the Chevrolet Bolt—once a symbol of practical, budget-friendly EV mobility—faced a wave of public backlash. Despite GM's decision to cancel it in favor of more efficient, profitable models, the Bolt's strong sales and loyal following proved hard to ignore. Now, for 2027, GM is officially bringing the Bolt back—and it promises to be better than ever. Fresh Yet Familiar Visually, the 2027 Bolt embraces a refreshed look without straying too far from its recognizable shape. Teaser images reveal a revised front fascia featuring a more traditional body-colored bumper and dual grille openings. The signature 'expanded metal' pattern remains, but the black headlamp graphic has been trimmed, giving way to a cleaner hoodline. At the rear, wide taillights have been slimmed down and are now connected by a black stripe set above a swath of body color—subtle but meaningful changes that confirm this isn't just a carryover design. While the new Bolt isn't a ground-up redesign, GM seems to be following a Tesla-like philosophy: if it worked before, refine it—not replace it. The updates balance modern appeal with familiarity, maintaining the Bolt's legacy as a go-to city EV. New Tech, Smarter Battery Underneath, the Bolt gains more significant upgrades. The new model will ride on GM's updated EV platform and adopt lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, improving efficiency, durability, and—most importantly—profitability. The original Bolt's battery setup lost GM money with each unit sold; this one won't. Fast-charging speeds haven't been confirmed, but with the adoption of Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, expectations are high for a much-needed boost—possibly up to 100–150 kW. Performance Meets Practicality The Bolt won acclaim for its 259-mile range and overnight charging convenience, making it ideal for daily commutes and urban living. The 2027 version aims to deliver similar or improved real-world usability, potentially pushing range closer to 300 miles—all while staying under the psychologically important $30,000 mark. Compared to larger siblings like the Equinox EV (starting around $35,000), the Bolt will remain Chevrolet's most affordable EV, with pricing likely just under that of the Equinox LT. The Comeback Car? When the Bolt first hit the market in 2016, it earned accolades including a Car of the Year title. Now, with a more mature look, smarter battery tech, and a competitive price, the 2027 Bolt may be primed to reclaim its place as the everyday EV that delivers more than it costs. GM's message is clear: 'You asked, we listened.' The Bolt is back—and this time, it's ready to stay.

The 2026 Ram TRX Roars Back with Hellcat Muscle

After a hiatus and the discontinuation of production, Stellantis has officially confirmed the return of the legendary 2026 Ram TRX —a move that's stirred excitement among enthusiasts of high-performance American pickups. The comeback, slated for early 2026, signals the company's ongoing commitment to the raw power and distinctive performance DNA that defines the Ram brand. Why Bring Back the TRX Now? When Ram ended TRX production in 2024, the decision was framed as part of a broader strategy to reduce emissions and pivot toward more efficient powertrains like the inline-six Hurricane engine. But the decision didn't sit well with fans. In response to overwhelming public demand and media scrutiny, Stellantis reversed course. According to the CEO, bringing back the TRX wasn't just about passion—it made financial sense. The TRX, with its supercharged muscle and premium positioning, generates significantly higher profit margins than conventional trucks. Supercharged Power That Redefines Performance The revived 2026 Ram TRX will return with the iconic 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine, expected to produce between 702 and 720 horsepower. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a robust four-wheel-drive system, this beast is engineered for both brutal off-road environments and blistering straight-line speed. Early performance estimates suggest the truck could sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds—an astonishing feat for a vehicle of its size. Enhancements to suspension and braking systems are also anticipated, ensuring that the TRX delivers not just brute force but agile, confident handling on all terrains. A Bold New Look for a Returning Icon Visually, the 2026 Ram TRX will adopt a more aggressive design language, drawing from the styling updates seen on the 2025 Ram 1500. Expect a bolder front grille bearing the 'RAM' insignia, sleeker LED headlights, and muscular bumpers that assert its off-road dominance. A new lightweight rear spoiler will aid in aerodynamic stability while amplifying the truck's sporty presence. The truck will also feature fresh exterior paint choices—including dual-layer finishes for added scratch protection—and rugged 18- or 20-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tires. Inside: Where Performance Meets Premium The interior of the new TRX promises to deliver both sportiness and luxury. It will feature TRX-branded leather-trimmed sport seats, and a large central touchscreen powered by the Uconnect 5 system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Sound will be handled by a 19-speaker Harman Kardon system, providing an immersive audio experience that complements the truck's explosive performance. Advanced driver-assist features such as blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera system will also be part of the package, making the TRX as safe as it is thrilling. Production Timeline and Pricing Production of the new-generation 2026 Ram TRX is set to begin in January 2026 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan—the same facility that built the previous model. Pricing is projected to start at around $92,000, or approximately 345,000 SAR. Entering a Competitive Arena The 2026 Ram TRX will re-enter a fiercely competitive segment, squaring off against heavyweights like the Ford F-150 Raptor R, GMC Sierra AT4X, and potentially even high-performance variants of the Tesla Cybertruck. With its unmistakable V8 growl, updated styling, and a suite of cutting-edge features, the TRX appears more than ready to reclaim its crown as the ultimate high-performance pickup.
