Longer 13-day Manx Grand Prix 'offers flexibility'
The revised schedule will see the racing will be split into two tranches, with the Supertwin, Supersport, Junior and Senior MGP races, on contemporary vehicles, set to take place first, on 23 and 25 August.They will be followed by the Formula 1, Lightweight, Historic Junior, Historic Senior and Classic Senior TT races on 27 and 29 August.Qualifying for the MGP is set to start proceedings, followed by sessions for the Classic classes, with Thompson saying "if we do lose sessions for whatever reason" there was "plenty of contingency for qualifying towards the bank holiday weekend, and [on] Tuesday and Thursday during the race schedule".
First held alongside the MGP in 2013, the Classic TT brand was scrapped by the government after a review following the coronavirus pandemic.The clerk said he was pleased to see its return, adding race organisers had "listened to feedback" after the August festival was shortened to nine days in 2022.Mr Thompson said the revamped schedule would give riders and spectators "plenty of downtime and more chance to explore the island", as well as enjoying the event."Each event complements each other," he explained."You have four races on modern bikes in the MGP, and then, for the Classic, you have iconic machines being ridden by some of the best riders in the world, like Michael Dunlop, Davy Todd, John McGuinness and Conor Cummins."For the pure bike enthusiast, to come to the Isle of Man and see their TT heroes on machines from the past – it's sights and sounds you can't describe," he said.Roads around the course are due to close at 12:45 BST on Sunday and reopen no later than 18:00 BST.

Sky Sports pundits split over Premier League title winner after predicting their top five - as Roy Keane names key to Liverpool retaining their title
insisted Liverpool will need to bring more players in if they are to retain their Premier League title this season. Following Arsenal 's win over Man United on Sunday, Keane and fellow Sky Sports pundits Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge were tasked with giving their predictions for the 2025-26 campaign. The trio each selected a top five, but none could agree on which team will have their hands on the trophy come the end of May. In his predictions, Keane backed Mikel Arteta to finally get Arsenal over the hump and claim the title after three consecutive second-placed finishes. Keane then placed Liverpool second, followed by Man City and Newcastle, with Chelsea rounding out his top five. The usually unwavering Irishman qualified his prediction however, by noting that Liverpool will be able to make it two wins on the bounce if they are able to bolster their squad before the end of the transfer window. 'Depending on signings, if we're allowed to change our mind, I'm convinced that Liverpool can get another centre half then I would go with Liverpool,' Keane said on Sky Sports. The Reds have enjoyed a productive summer in the transfer market as Arne Slot looks to build on the success of his first year on Merseyside. Hugo Ekitike has already made an impact for the Reds alongside marquee arrival Florian Wirtz and the club are understood to be still pursuing a move for wantaway Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. As far as defensive reinforcements are concerned, the club have been repeatedly linked with a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Meanwhile former Man City defender Richards backed his boyhood club to return to the top of the mountain after a poor campaign by their standards last season. However, Keane insisted that he feels Pep Guardiola's side still time to get back to their best. 'I never usually bet against Pep and City,' Keane added. 'I just think maybe defensively, and I know that they've thrown James Trafford in there, and I think he's a really top goalkeeper but I just have that gut feeling that I think Arsenal might do it this year. 'But as I said, I think if Liverpool get a center half, and I would definitely change my mind on Liverpool. 'Even looking at Liverpool, sometimes when Liverpool aren't even added, or even City, when they're not at their best, they'll still score two or three goals.' Sturridge joined Richards in claiming one of his former clubs will go all the way, as the ex-Liverpool striker claimed the Reds have what it takes. Like Keane though, the 35-year-old claimed that the club would benefit from bolstering their squad depth. '[Liverpool] a strong squad, but I do think they need maybe one or two additions to strengthen up.' Sturridge said. 'I think they need a defender, and, of course, one more attacker. They're a little bit short in both of those areas.'
