Isle of Man TT: Dismal weather forces second qualifying session to be cancelled

The organisers had issued an update on Thursday morning raising doubts over the prospect of the session going ahead because of unsuitable conditions after heavy rain overnight. A further update in the afternoon noted an improvement in the weather and said the outlook for evening qualifying was 'better than expected'. However, shortly after 4pm, clerk of the course Gary Thompson confirmed the qualifying schedule had been shelved because of poor weather, with a revised schedule for Friday being put in place. Wet weather forced the cancellation of opening practice on Monday, while Tuesday's session was untimed because of wet patches around the TT Course. The first qualifying session took place on Wednesday, with Honda Racing's Dean Harrison topping the times with a 133mph lap on his Superbike – the fastest speed ever recorded on the first night of TT qualifying. The race programme is due to commence on Saturday with the first Supersport and Sidecar TT events.
