After not batting, part-time off-spinner Rinku Singh made an instant impact in the powerplay, clean bowling Aadarsh Singh with his very first delivery
In a dramatic opening match of the third season of the UP T20 League, Rinku Singh, renowned for his powerful sixes, showcased his bowling prowess by taking a wicket with the first ball of his very first over.
The league commenced on August 17 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow, featuring a clash between the Meerut Mavericks, captained by Rinku Singh, and the Kanpur Superstars, led by Sameer Rizvi.
Rinku Strikes Immediately
Meerut Mavericks set a formidable target of 226 runs. After sitting out the batting, part-time off-spinner Rinku Singh made an immediate impact in the powerplay, clean bowling Aadarsh Singh with his very first delivery. Even the commentator was stunned. Rinku's jubilant celebration after the wicket was a sight to behold.

Madhav Kaushik Blazes 95 In 31 Balls
Madhav Kaushik scored an unbeaten 95 off just 31 balls to power Meerut Mavericks to a massive 225/2. After opener Satvik Chikara fell cheaply for 19, Akshay Dubey (44 off 26) and Rituraj Sharma (60 off 36) built a brisk partnership. When Akshay was dismissed by Bobby Yadav in the 12th over, Kaushik came in at number four and smashed 10 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 306.45. Despite the whirlwind innings, there weren't enough balls for him to reach a well-deserved century.
Kanpur Superstars Batting Collapses
Chasing 226, Kanpur Superstars managed just 139/9 in their 20 overs, with only three players reaching double figures. The team slumped to 13/3 by the end of the powerplay. For Meerut Mavericks, Kartik Tyagi, Vijay Kumar, and Yash Garg took two wickets each, while Vishal Chaudhary, Rinku Singh, and Zeeshan Ansari claimed one each. Meerut cruised to an emphatic 86-run victory.

Rohit Sharma Trains Hard In Gym With Ex-India Coach For Next ODI Series: See Viral Pic

Last Updated: Rohit Sharma, India's ODI captain, is preparing for the three-match series against Australia starting October 19. India's one-day captain Rohit Sharma has started intense preparations for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, set to begin on October 19. Although he announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year, Rohit remains the face of India's ODI team. A recent picture of Rohit working out in the gym with former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has gone viral on social media. Rohit's last international appearance was during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, clinching the title by defeating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium. Rohit played a crucial role in leading the team, both as a captain and with his batting. After the Champions Trophy, he played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he regained his form midway through the season, scoring 418 runs in 15 matches. However, during the tournament, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket, having already stepped away from T20Is earlier. Hence, ODIs are now the only international format where fans can watch him play for India. Earlier, former India cricketer Yograj Singh had sparked discussions about Rohit's longevity in international cricket. He strongly feels the Indian skipper can continue playing until the age of 45, provided he maintains his fitness rigorously. 'The man about whom so many people speak rubbish, Rohit Sharma, I said that day that Rohit will be my man, the man, my man," Yograj told News18 CricketNext. 'The way he batted, his batting one side and the rest of the team's batting on the other side. His innings on one side and the rest of the world on the other. That's his class. You can say, 'Rohit, aapki hume 5 saal aur zarurat hai yaar' (Rohit, we need you for five more years, man) so please do more for your country, work on your fitness and everything. Put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45 years of age, if he wants." 'I believe you should play domestic cricket; the more you play that, the fitter you'll be. Who got the Man of the Match in the final? Rohit Sharma. So you should only talk about things that you know. If you want to talk about his game and fitness, do that only if you have played at some level. Do you feel ashamed for talking like this?" he added. view comments Location : Mumbai, India, India First Published: News cricket Rohit Sharma Trains Hard In Gym With Ex-India Coach For Next ODI Series: See Viral Pic Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
