SCA unveils schedule, venue for Saurashtra Pro T20 League
Rajkot (Gujarat) [India], May 27 (ANI): The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) announced the venue and schedule of the Saurashtra Pro T20 League (SPTL), a franchise-based league that will showcase the region's finest cricketing talent in a thrilling, high-energy format. The tournament will be held at the renowned Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Five teams will compete for the title, including Anmol Kings Halar, Aryan Sorath Lions, Dita Gohilwad Titans, Zalawad Strikers, and JMD Kutch Riders. SPTL 2025 will be played from June 7 to 20 and will have around 21 matches, including the final. The Players' draft will be organised on Tuesday, with a pool of about 125 players in three categories. All coaches and other team support will be selected from the Saurashtra Cricket Association. However, teams can have national or international former players as mentors. A Media Conference was held at Niranjan Shah Stadium to announce further tournament details, including the dates, total number of matches, and players' draft. Saurashtra Pro T20 League's Chairman Jayveer Shah shared the details and said, according to a press release from the SCA, 'There will be five teams in this franchise-based tournament. Teams are named by historic and popular regions of Saurashtra-Kutch and clubbed with their respective franchisee. Names of five teams shall be Anmol Kings Halar, Aryan Sorath Lions, Dita Gohilwad Titans, Zalawad Strikers and JMD Kutch Riders. Each team will play two league matches, and thus the tournament shall have 21 matches, including the final. In the earlier format of SCA's T20 league, each team played only 1 match, and so SCA is making the tournament bigger and more competitive.' Jaydev Shah, President of Saurashtra Cricket Association, addressed the presence of SCA office bearers Himanshu Shah, Secretary; Shyam Raichura, Treasurer; Karan Shah, Joint Secretary; and Jayveer Shah, Chairman of Saurashtra Pro T20 League. 'It gives me immense pleasure to announce the Saurashtra Pro T20 League, an exciting new chapter in Saurashtra's cricketing journey. The tournament is a landmark initiative by the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) to further promote and develop the game at a professional level within our region. Saurashtra Pro T20 League will feature top-tier and emerging talents from across the region of Saurashtra & Kutch and beyond, providing a robust platform for young and emerging cricketers to showcase their skills alongside experienced players of Saurashtra. This tournament aims to bring high-quality, competitive T20 cricket to fans across the Globe. Saurashtra Cricket Association's aim and objective is only Cricket and the development of Cricket in all formats,' Jaydev said. 'I am confident that SPTL shall give a great platform and exposure to players of Saurashtra & Kutch to the most popular format of the Game, and they shall build good confidence for such a competitive and electrifying tournament. And this is the aim of the Saurashtra Cricket Association to provide such platforms of competitive tournaments along with the best infrastructure so that more and more players represent Team India as well as are picked in the most popular IPL,' he added. SRH spinner Zeeshan keen to make a splash on home turf
LUCKNOW: Finding an Indian Premier League team seemed almost impossible for young leg spinner Zeeshan Ansari after the Uttar Pradesh selection committee, headed by former India seamer Praveen Kumar, ignored the bowler last season despite emerging the highest wicket-taker in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League last year with 24 scalps. Sunrisers Hyderabad though kept track and picked him for Rs.40 lakh. He had a fine IPL debut, taking all three wickets against Delhi Capitals, though in a losing cause. Two of those victims were Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul. He has six wickets in nine games (avg 9.76), though SRH have been eliminated from the playoffs race. The 25-year-old will play his first IPL game on home turf, against a Lucknow Super Giants side led by his 2016 U-19 World Cup teammate Rishabh Pant on Monday. It will be a big occasion for Zeeshan as his 18-member joint family will be at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium to cheer him on. 'Expectations are high for everyone, including the 200-odd cricketers at the LDA Coaching Centre where I have been training. I will try to live up to the expectations of everyone. I had 24 wickets at this venue in UPT20L last year and know the variations of the pitches here quite well,' Zeeshan told HT on Sunday. 'Even after getting selected in the UPT20 League by Meerut Mavericks, I wasn't sure of playing all the matches but coach Utkarsh Chandra and team owner Saurabh Dubey supported me well… Skipper Rinku Singh too gave me a free hand which kept me doing well and I emerged as the highest wicket taker,' SRH picked him in the players auction soon after. 'We know how important that was for me and my family,' said Zeeshan, whose father Naeem has a tailoring shop in Lucknow. Zeeshan had 40 wickets in his first season for Uttar Pradesh in junior cricket and was picked for the U-19 World Cup. His teammate in that campaign, Ishan Kishan – he too plays for SRH – is now a good friend. 'I started playing cricket at the age of 5 in the lanes near my house. After some time, I was sent to Chowk stadium for training,' says Zeeshan, who has taken 17 wickets in five first-class games. On his stint with SRH, Zeeshan is grateful to have two of the game's top two former spinners, Muttiah Muralitharan and Daniel Vettori, to guide him. 'Both are a big help; I always try to learn from them with long discussions and at the nets. I've watched them since I started playing cricket. They are such big bowlers and if I could get small things from them, it would be great for me. 'I am getting a lot of help from Ishan. We played two practice matches together here ahead of the LSG game. He told me certain things during the match, especially about my gesture after being hit for a six. He told me to be confident.' Gopal Singh, Zeeshan's coach at the LDA Coaching Centre, is confident about his good show against LSG. 'He has perfect knowledge of all nine surfaces at this venue and knows the tricks to trouble the batters,' said Gopal, who will be watching Zeeshan's game with a big bunch of 200-odd trainees.

IPL 2025: Foreign players fly out after Indian Premier League suspension amid India-Pakistan border tensions
Most of the foreign recruits in Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises departed for their respective countries on Saturday following the suspension of the high-profile T20 League, which was halted for a week due to India-Pakistan border tensions. The IPL was suspended on Friday, a day after the Punjab Kings versus Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was abandoned midway following air raid alerts in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot. With the tournament suspended, the players and support staff from various franchises have begun returning to their hometowns, while several foreign players are home-bound. Among the overseas support staff are head coach Andy Flower, bowling coach Adam Griffith, Director of Cricket Operations Mo Bobat, team physio Evan Speechly, and analyst Freddie Wilde. 'We're deeply grateful for the swift coordination and support from the BCCI, local authorities, and the police who made this possible,' the RCB statement added. A Lucknow Super Giants official also confirmed to PTI that some of its overseas players flew out on Saturday, while a few others opted to stay back for the time being. For other franchises like Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), both domestic and international players have also departed for their respective locations. ALSO READ | Fans, unaware of IPL 2025 suspension due to rising India-Pakistan tensions, arrive for LSG vs RCB match According to a source, KKR players left from Hyderabad, where they were scheduled to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. After the IPL match in Dharamsala was called off, players from Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals reached New Delhi on Friday after being evacuated and escorted to the Jalandhar railway station in batches through Hoshiarpur amid tight security. The squads had arrived in New Delhi aboard a special 'Vande Bharat Express'. A Punjab Kings (PBKS) source said that most of their foreign players have left for home. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that updates regarding the revised schedule and venues for the remainder of the tournament would be shared in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders. The suspension of the IPL comes in the wake of India's missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.
