Action soon on Pocso case accused's participation in Kerala school event: Minister V Sivankutty
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will soon take appropriate action on the basis of the report of the Deputy Director of Education (DDE), Thiruvananthapuram, on the incident in which Pocso case accused vlogger Mukesh M Nair participated as a guest in the reopening ceremony of a government school on June 2, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has said.
The inquiry report of the DDE had concluded that the responsibility for the incident lies entirely on the headmaster of the school.
'It was not right to allow the participation of a Pocso case accused in the event. I would like to clarify that such persons should never be allowed to participate in any school event in the state,' the minister told reporters here on Wednesday.
The minister said the headmaster had visited him earlier in the day and admitted that allowing the Pocso accused in the event was a mistake on the part of the school.

Many accused are absconding, but we arrested four more on Friday and are continuing our efforts to trace the remaining suspects.' A separate POCSO case has also been registered against 30 people in connection with the incident, police said. The brutality didn't stop with the assault. According to the families of the victims, when they attempted to intervene, they were threatened and chased away by members of the dominant caste. 'Untouchability is still very much alive in our village,' one of the victim's parents told HT. 'This incident is just another example of the discrimination we face every day.' Teacher spreads fake story of sexual assault on student
Thiruvananthapuram: Kilimanoor police registered a Pocso case against a woman teacher on Friday for spreading a fake sexual assault story against a female Plus One student at Madavoor. Following the incident, the school management suspended 42-year-old teacher, after finding her allegations baseless. She had cooked up a story of a 35-year-old male teacher sexually assaulting the student in the school and impregnating her. Police said the accused teacher committed the crime to throw her male colleague out of the school so that she could be part of the school management. "There were some issues between the accused and her colleague over school management's powers. The accused and her husband, who is also a teacher at the school, wanted to be a part of the management and the male teacher was against it. By cooking up the story, she wanted to shunt him out," said police. The accused shared the defamatory story in the school WhatsApp groups and also aired a video about it on a YouTube channel, with images of the girl and her alleged 'tormentor'. General education minister V Sivankutty promised a transparent probe into the incident and asked deputy director of education to submit a report within seven days. "Levelling such fake allegations is a grave offence and it is even more serious when it is against a girl. The culprits will be aptly punished," said Sivankutty. The girl's parents have submitted complaints to the chief minister's office, child welfare committee and SC/ST commission. In Jan this year, a lab attendance book went missing and a lab assistant was suspended for it. The two teachers had quarrelled with each other over the incident. Over 1.2 lakh students secure Plus One seats
T'puram: As many as 1,21,743 candidates took admission for Plus One in merit quota in govt and aided schools in state. The time for taking admission according to the first allotment list published on Tuesday was over by Thursday. The number of candidates who took provisional admission was 99,525. At least 27,074 candidates did not claim their allotment, informed general education minister V Sivankutty's office. Allotment to 3,18,574 seats in merit quota was carried out in the first phase and 69,034 seats under reservation categories are yet to be allotted. A total of 2,49,540 candidates took admission. In Malappuram district, where the number of applicants is the highest, 18,368 candidates took admission. As many as 3,652 candidates did not join, despite getting the allotment. The second centralized allotment of seats will be on Tuesday. Admissions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. The third allotment will be on June 16 and admissions will be on June 16 and 17.
