Police arrest two for extortion over nude video blackmail in Ampang
KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Police arrested two men for extortion after they threatened to release a nude video of a victim and his girlfriend unless a sum of money was paid.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the two suspects, aged 18, were nabbed in Ampang on Sunday. Police also seized three mobile phones to aid in the investigation.
Investigations revealed that the victim received a threatening WhatsApp message from an acquaintance on April 11, demanding money. As a result, the victim paid RM2,800 in instalments.
'One of the suspects then demanded an additional RM1,000, prompting the victim to lodge a police report,' he said in a statement today.
Mohd Azam also said urine tests indicated that both suspects tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Background checks showed that one suspect had four previous criminal records, including drug-related offences, while the other was clear of any negative activities.
'Both suspects have been remanded for four days, starting Tuesday. The case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 292 for possession of obscene material under the Penal Code,' he added.

Public tip-offs lead to man's arrest three hours after botched robbery of teen, grandmother in Johor
ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 3 — Police arrested a 33-year-old man just three hours after he allegedly attempted to rob a teenage girl and her grandmother at a house in Gelang Patah here on Sunday. Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan said in the 11.30am incident, the victims, a 14-year-old Chinese national and her grandmother, in her 70s, were at home when they were confronted by an unknown man. 'The suspect ordered the victims to hand over their valuables before choking one of them, resulting in a struggle between the suspect and both victims. 'The suspect then fled the scene after failing to obtain the valuables. Both victims sustained injuries and were referred to the hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement today. Acting on information received, a team from the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division together with officers from the Tanjung Kupang police station arrested the suspect at around 2.30pm on the same day. A background check revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records, while the initial urine screening test came back negative for drugs. 'Police also seized a T-shirt and a pair of shorts believed to have been worn during the incident. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 2 to June 8 to assist in the investigations,' he added. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. The offence is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment and may also include a fine or whipping, if convicted. M Kumarasan also expressed his appreciation to members of the public for providing information that led to the swift arrest of the suspect. — Bernama

19 goats killed in Penang farm blaze
Firefighters from the Bayan Baru station arrived at the scene within six minutes and put the fire out by 2pm. (JBPM pic) GEORGE TOWN : Nineteen goats were killed in a fire that destroyed a livestock shed near a factory in Bayan Lepas this afternoon. The goats were in a pen at Lengkok Kampung Jawa which was 90% destroyed in the 1pm incident, a Penang fire and rescue department spokesman said. Firefighters from the Bayan Baru station arrived at the scene within six minutes and brought the fire under control in about 10 minutes before fully putting it out by 2pm. Nineteen goats trapped inside the shed were killed, but one managed to escape. No one was injured. The fire also damaged four vehicles parked nearby. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
