Honor 400 Lite teased for Malaysia: AI button, 108MP camera and a dash of Pura
Honor 400 Lite: 'Mini' Huawei Pura 70?
It's no secret that the Honor 400 Lite looks quite a bit like the Huawei Pura 70. But what Honor would rather have you focus on is how thin and light it is, as the device weighs 171g, with a thickness of 7.29mm. Three colour options are available, at least globally, namely Marrs Green, Velvet Grey, and Velvet Black.
At the front, the Honor 400 Lite features a 6.7' Full HD+ (2412×1080) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Powering the phone is MediaTek's Dimensity 7025-Ultra chipset, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Camera-wise, you get a 108MP f/1.75 main camera that's said to offer 3x lossless zoom, and a 5MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera. There's also a 16MP front camera that comes with a selfie light.
New dedicated camera shutter button for pictures and AI
Speaking of the camera, the Honor 400 Lite is also equipped with a camera shutter button which looks similar to that of the iPhone 16 series. Marketted officially as the 'AI Camera Button', it's positioned on the right side of the phone, and can be used for launching the camera, taking pictures and videos, as well as controlling the phone's zoom interface.
Being called the AI Camera Button, you can also press and hold it to quickly access Honor's visual intelligence features.
Keeping lights on is a 5,230mAh battery that can be charged at 35W via USB-C. The Honor 400 Lite is also rated at IP65 for dust and water resistance, and is certified with SGS five-star reliability for anti-drop protection. — Soya Cincau

Samsung's New Galaxy S25 Model Leaks Following the Galaxy S25 release in Jan. 2025, Samsung teased the Galaxy S25 Slim and its subsequent appearance on retail shelves in late Spring. One more Galaxy S25 has yet to be announced, namely the Fan Edition of the S25. These cost-effective versions tend to appear late in the Galaxy S cycle, but we have spotted the Galaxy S25 Fan Edition this week: "Visually, the Galaxy S25 FE is essentially identical to the other models in the S25 series, which were introduced in January. It will also be available in "Jet Black" and "Icy Blue," the same colors as the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge with its particularly slim casing. The S25 FE also features a metal frame and very narrow display bezels, similar to those found on the more expensive top models in the S25 series." (WinFuture). Pixel 10 Family To Take On iPhone Google's Pixel range has always drawn direct comparisons to Apple's iPhone portfolio. With the upcoming Pixel 10 launch, the three key advantages—price, hardware features, and AI software—might be enough to overhaul the iPhone at the peak of the smartphone pyramid: "When the Pixel 10 smartphones are launched, they will have all the added AI benefits from Android 16, as well as the new tools and updates in Google's first-party apps. AI will continue to be one of the buzzwords of 2025. Google will have demonstrated its lead and then extended it as consumers get ready to buy their new smartphones." (Forbes). The Attractive Pixel 10 Pro Pricing The Pixel pricing is going to be one of the apparent points of attraction for consumers—the Pixel 10 will start at $799 for the 128 GB model, the Pixel 10 Pro starts at $999, the Pixel 10 Pro XL at $1,199 for 256 GB and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at $1,799 for 256 GB. This stands in comparison with Apple's decision to add $50 across the board on the upcoming iPhone 17 portfolio: "Due to launch in the second week of September, the upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro smartphones are expected to see a $50 increase across the board, pushing up the perceived price point. Apple is balancing this out by bumping up the base storage from 128 GB to 256 GB, but it's going to need someone carefully looking through the spec sheets to spot that little bonus." (Forbes). MediaTek Schedule Challenges Qualcomm Qualcomm's Snapdragon series is one of the leading chipset names associated with Android devices, but it is not the only manufacturer involved in this digital arms race. The launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite looks set to be usurped by Dimensity the day before with its powerhouse option: "Qualcomm already confirmed it plans to host the annual Snapdragon Summit from September 23 -25, where we'll see the announcement of its Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. But arch-rival MediaTek may one-up Qualcomm by unveiling its Dimensity 9500 flagship chipset a day earlier on September 22." (GSM Arena). Honor's Record Breaking Foldable Success The growth of the foldable form factor has accelerated in the last few years, and manufacturers who have made the investment in hardware and marketing are reaping the market share rewards. Research this week picks out Honor's success in Europe: "Honor's book-type foldable sales in Europe increased 22-fold between H1 2023 and H1 2024. At the same time, Honor contributed the most to the growth of the overall book-type segment – book-type foldable sales more than doubled between H1 2023 and H1 2024, with HONOR accounting for 70% of this increase." (Counterpoint Research). Google's Quiet Gaming Platform Clues inside the latest Android beta releases point to a new endeavour for Google: building a gaming community inside the Google Play Store. A mix of tip boards, forums, and discussions all look to be under development: "There's a good chance this Games Community Forum could be part of the plan to make the Play Store a central hub for gamers. If Google brings the Games Community Forum to Play Games for PC, it could give users a very convenient forum to talk about games across Android and PC, effectively covering a big chunk of gaming and forum platforms." (Android Authority). And Finally... There's a new Android coming, so there's a new Android name coming. Which dessert will it be this year? The confirmation is here, we're getting a Cinnamon Bun! "For average Android users, the dessert codename doesn't mean much anymore, but it's still fun to know. Plus, there is always the chance that Google will erect a cinnamon bun statue on its campus to celebrate its release. As far as we know, there is no Baklava (Android 16) statue, but that may be because making a baklava statue wouldn't be as visually appealing as a cinnamon bun statue." Now even Flip phones will get 200MP cameras
TL;DR The HONOR Magic V Flip 2 will apparently have a 200MP main camera. This would make it the first Flip phone with a 200MP camera. HONOR has also confirmed that it will have the biggest battery in a Flip phone. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition and Galaxy Z Fold 7 were the first foldable phones to offer a 200MP main camera. However, it looks like the first Flip foldable with a 200MP camera could launch next week. HONOR has confirmed that it will launch the Magic V Flip 2 foldable phone on August 21. However, long-time leaker Digital Chat Station has revealed a slew of specs on Weibo. Perhaps the most notable detail is that the Magic V Flip 2 will pack a 200MP main camera. This would mark the first time a Flip phone has shipped with such a high-resolution camera. The phone will also apparently pack a 50MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP selfie camera. I'm guessing that HONOR didn't have much space to spare for a triple rear camera system, but a 200MP main camera is the next best thing. This means you can expect good-quality cropped images at 2x to 4x, but anything more will be a stretch. Don't want to miss the best from Android Authority? Otherwise, Digital Chat Station claims the phone will also have a 6.82-inch OLED screen (2,868 x 1,232, ultra-thin glass), a four-inch cover display (1,200 x 1,092), and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. That's clearly not the latest and greatest Snapdragon silicon, but you're still getting a very powerful processor. HONOR has also confirmed the leaker's previous claim that the phone will have a 5,500mAh battery. That means it will have the biggest battery in any Flip foldable to date. Once you've run out of juice, you can take advantage of 80W wired or 50W wireless charging. We hope the new flip phone is eventually available in global markets. However, the original Magic V Flip didn't get an international release, so we're not holding our breath for the sequel. Follow

Apple, I'm Begging You, Don't Let AI Ruin the iPhone 17's Camera
AI has become an expected part of every new phone launching in 2025 and not just in the form of Gemini Live or Circle to Search. The cameras on many phones have AI baked deep into the heart of the experience too. I was taken aback by the Honor 400 Pro's image-to-video AI tool when it brought my dad back to life, while the Pixel 9 Pro focused more on generative AI to add new elements to your Images or even create new scenes out of nowhere. But the iPhones have always focused first and foremost on delivering some of the best image quality you can get in a camera phone, and as a professional photographer I want to see that same dedication to taking better photos when the iPhone 17 launches in September. It's not that I don't like AI. I do, when it's applied properly. I like ChatGPT's and Google Gemini's ability to answer questions in a conversational way, I like Adobe's use of AI for object removal in Photoshop and as a horror movie fan I'm genuinely excited about the terrifying visions I've seen created using AI. But AI can also be a crutch for mobile companies to lean on in order to make up for shortfalls elsewhere. I liked the Pixel 9 Pro, but its camera hardware hadn't been changed since the last model. The new generative AI tools became the new imaging-focused features for the upgrade. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra's camera blew me away with its variable aperture that created stunning starbursts in night time images. And yet the more recent 15 Ultra ditched that in favor of software alternatives that simply don't offer the same results. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra had an amazing variable aperture built into its camera, but on the more recent Xiaomi 15 Ultra that was replaced with a "software solution" that simply didn't do the same thing. Back in 2019 I took the iPhone 11 Pro on a photography road trip instead of my usual Canon DSLR, and I frequently use my iPhone 16 Pro as my professional camera when carrying a bigger setup isn't feasible. Apple's image quality is top notch, with the phones typically producing natural image tones and less heavy-handed image processing than many of its rivals, resulting in authentic looking images. Its ProRaw image format and ProRes and Log video codecs are aimed at getting the best quality from the cameras. Apple has invested in core image quality technologies, not simply used AI to make up for any hardware shortcomings. It's why Apple has won the hearts of creatives the world over and why the iPhone is often seen as one of, if not the best camera phones for professional or enthusiastic photo and video shooters. And I'm not saying the iPhone occupies some AI-free utopia. Apple has been a pioneer in applying machine learning to overcome limitations of tiny smartphone cameras, such as its Deep Fusion imaging technology that captures multiple exposures and blends them into a final, evenly-exposed image. And I suppose to a lesser extent its Portrait Lighting tool from 2017's iPhone 8 that used depth maps and algorithms to create artificial lighting effects. But these are arguably tools to enhance an existing image, and I'm worried that the next iPhone's camera will be all about how you can generate entirely new scenes without even having to step outside your house. The huge rise in popularity of compact cameras shows that people still care about taking real photos. Geoffrey Morrison/CNET The rise in popularity of dedicated compact cameras such as the Fujifilm X100 VI and the continued resurgence in the popularity of film photography has shown that the creative world still demands authentic photography. Real cameras taking real moments with your real friends. Actual sunset colors casting across golden sandy beaches, not an AI's generic interpretation of what a beach looks like. AI has its place and I'm braced for Apple's September event to be extremely AI-focused. As AI seeps deeper into our phone experience and Apple pushes on with its AI strategy, I'm concerned that the company could make rash decisions with its imaging experience in order to try and justify the existence of Apple Intelligence. But this shouldn't come at the expense of core image quality, so I also want to hear about how I can take the iPhone 17 deep into the heart of my home country of Scotland and take the most beautiful photos of the incredible landscape in front of me.
