Itanagar: The Udyami Panjikaran Mela 2025 was successfully organised in the remote border town of Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Siang district on Wednesday.
Organised by the Indian Army's Spear Corps under Operation Sadbhavana in association with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), the event reflected a strong spirit of cooperation between military and civil society in advancing rural development.
The fair was designed to encourage entrepreneurship and promote participation of self-help groups (SHGs) in building a sustainable platform for local farmers, artisans and rural producers. It also focused on providing reliable and long-term market linkages for indigenous products and agricultural goods.
The participating SHGs, farmers and entrepreneurs were given on-the-spot support for registration, business development advice, and exposure to various govt schemes aimed at empowering rural livelihoods.
Participants interacted with officials, representatives of financial institutions, market experts, etc., and gained knowledge on how to upscale their products and services for bigger markets. Representatives from the Army and the ArSRLM reiterated their shared vision to encourage self-reliance, economic independence, and sustainable growth through such inclusive development programmes.

Army, with old newspaper clip, takes a dig at US

NEW DELHI: The Indian Army on Tuesday waded into the ongoing war of words between India and the US over tariffs and Russian oil, sharing an old newspaper clip detailing decades of military support from Washington to Pakistan in the run-up to the 1971 war. The Army's Eastern Command at Kolkata posted on 'X' a newspaper clip from Aug 5, 1971, highlighting the article's headline: "US arms worth $2 billion shipped to Pakistan since 1954". "This day that year build-up of war - Aug 5, 1971. #KnowFacts," the post said. The newspaper article mentioned the then defence production minister V C Shukla telling RS that both the US and China had supplied Pakistan with arms at "concessional rates or throw-away prices". The French sold Pakistan arms against hard cash with "no concessions", while USSR had denied supplying weapons to India's western adversary. "Our estimate of the value of US arms shipments to Pakistan since they entered into the arms pact in 1954 was $2 billion," Shukla had said. Army's dig comes after MEA hit back at US following Trump's threat to India over its purchase of Russian oil. TNN

Big boost for Indian Armed Forces: Centre clears ₹67,000 crore proposals

The Defence Acquisition Council under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday cleared proposals worth nearly ₹ 67,000 crore to enhance operational capability of armed forces, the Centre said. The proposals include several defence equipment requirements for the Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force. The DAC gave an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the Indian Army to procure Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP. 'This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry,' the defence ministry said in a press release. The council, headed by Rajnath Singh, also accorded an AoN to the Indian Navy whereby it can procure the Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, and BrahMos Fire Control System and Launchers. A proposal to upgrade the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System was also cleared. The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions, the Centre said. For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Mountain Radars and Upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System was accorded. The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region. The upgradation of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability, the ministry said. An AoN was accorded for procuring Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three Services. The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. They will significantly enhance the round-the-clock surveillance and combat capability of the Armed Forces.
