Big boost for Indian Armed Forces: DAC clears ₹67,000 crore proposals to enhance operational capability
The proposals include several defence equipment requirements for the Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force.
The DAC gave an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the Indian Army to procure Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sight for BMP.
'This would enhance night driving capability of BMP and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the Mechanised Infantry,' the defence ministry said in a press release.
The council, headed by Rajnath Singh, also accorded an AoN to the Indian Navy whereby it can procure the Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, and BrahMos Fire Control System and Launchers. A proposal to upgrade the BARAK-1 Point Defence Missile System was also cleared.
The procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft will provide the capability to the Indian Navy for detection, classification and neutralisation of threats in anti-submarine warfare missions, the Centre said.
For the Indian Air Force, AoN for procurement of Mountain Radars and Upgradation of SAKSHAM/SPYDER Weapon System was accorded.
The procurement of mountain radars will enhance the air surveillance capability along and across the borders in the mountainous region. The upgradation of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER System for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System will enhance the Air Defence capability, the ministry said.
An AoN was accorded for procuring Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three Services. The proposed MALE RPAs can carry multiple payloads & weapons and operate at longer ranges for long endurance missions. They will significantly enhance the round-the-clock surveillance and combat capability of the Armed Forces.
In addition, DAC has also accorded AoN for the sustenance of C-17 and C-130J fleets and a comprehensive annual maintenance contract of the S-400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System.

Under the Centre's UDAN scheme, Spirit Air is all set to boost air travel across Bihar with new routes, regional links, and even international flights to Nepal. Spirit Air on Tuesday announced its flight operational plan in Bihar under the Ministry of Civil Aviation's flagship regional connectivity scheme (RCS) — UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik). 'Spirit Air will begin operations in phases from the upcoming airports in Bihar that include: Birpur, Saharsa, Munger, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Raxaul, Valmiki Nagar and Bihta," said the company in a press statement issued here on Tuesday. A high-level meeting between the promoter of Spirit Air, Subodh Verma and Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), Bihar government, S Siddharth was held here on Tuesday. The flight operational plan of Spirit Air under UDAN in Bihar was discussed at length. 'The upcoming airports in Bihar will be connected to: (1)Varanasi — providing onward connections to Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad (2) Bangalore — Hyderabad, Chennai through Spirit Air's partner airlines (3) Bihta — to facilitate direct access to the state capital, Patna and Bihta to Jamshedpur, Bokaro," said the statement. In Phase II, Spirit Air will introduce international connectivity, including: Muzaffarpur to Kathmandu and Janakpur (Nepal), Birpur to Rajbiraj and Biratnagar (Nepal) and Valmiki Nagar to Kathmandu and Bhairahawa (Nepal) and Bihta to Kathmandu, it said. 'This strategic initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision to make air travel accessible to the common citizen and catalyse regional growth across underserved areas. Its versatile fleet for upcoming RCS operations in Bihar will include: Islander BN2T-4S-STOL, capable, adaptable for passenger, cargo, and medevac operations and King Air 250–high-performance aircraft offering comfort, pressurisation, and multi-mission flexibility," said the release. The Bihar Cabinet on June 17 this year gave its go ahead for signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate of Aviation of the state government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for developing airports in six cities. The new airports will be developed in Madhubani, Birpur in Supaul, Munger, Valmiki Nagar in Bettiah, Muzaffarpur and Saharsa under the Centre's UDAN scheme. BJP chief blames state govt for urea shortage
Hyderabad: BJP Telangana state president N. Ramchander Rao asked people to be watchful of the deceitful tactics of the Congress party and its government in the State. On Tuesday, he alleged that the ongoing shortage of urea in the state was not due to a lack of supply from the Centre but stemmed from black marketing and mismanagement by the Telangana government. He accused state authorities of enabling middlemen and creating artificial scarcity despite adequate supplies sanctioned by the Modi government for the ongoing Rabi season. Addressing party workers at a public meeting in Peddapalli, Rao said that the Centre had supplied sufficient quantities of urea to meet farmers' needs. 'Instead of ensuring transparent distribution, the state government is promoting black marketing of fertilisers,' he charged. Rao also highlighted various developmental and welfare programmes initiated by the Centre for farmers. He stated that nearly Rs 20,000 crore worth of projects have been undertaken in Peddapalli constituency alone, aimed at infrastructure, irrigation, and agricultural support. In a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Rao accused him of political theatrics by staging a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. 'He is fully aware that his government cannot implement 42% reservations for backward classes, and yet he blames the Centre to conceal his own inefficiency,' Rao said. The BJP leader urged grassroots party functionaries—including district, mandal, and booth-level cadres—to mobilise effectively and work in coordination for the upcoming local body elections. He emphasised the need for collective effort to secure victory and strengthen the BJP's presence across the region. As part of the party's expansion strategy, Rao welcomed Nalla Manohar Reddy, a former BRS leader, and over 300 workers from BRS and Congress into the BJP fold. The new members were inducted in the presence of Rao, who presented them with party scarves, underscoring the BJP's growing support base in the district. Earlier in the day, Rao was brought to the meeting venue in a procession that passed through the main roads of Peddapalli. He received a rousing welcome at Sultanabad before proceeding to the gathering. The roadshow witnessed participation from local leaders and supporters, reflecting the party's efforts to intensify outreach in rural and semi-urban pockets. Rao's visit to Peddapalli marks the beginning of his three-day tour covering Mancherial, Komaram Bheem-Asifabad.
