My Family cast update 25 years later including Harry Potter snub and Bafta wins
A long 25 years have passed since the well-loved BBC sitcom My Family first aired back in the year 200. The show was a constant on our screens back in the day, revolving around the daily chaos of the eccentric Harper family in London.
My Family produced 120 episodes over its run, which came to an end in 2001 with a revolving door of actors joining and departing the cast over the years. Many of its stars remain recognisable faces on our screens, prompting us to revisit what some of the cast members got up to after the show had ended.
From Hollywood to Harry Potter, to stepping away from acting altogether, many will have fond memories of watching these stars in the long-gone sitcom.

Ben Harper - Robert Lindsay
Robert Lindsay portrayed dentist Ben Harper throughout the entire run of My Family. When he wasn't being henpecked by his wife or swindled by his children, all the character wanted was a bit of time to himself.
However, one thing or another would always crop up, preventing him from ever truly kicking back and relaxing. Robert has graced our telly screens for nearly half a century, with roles like Wolfe Smith in Citizen Smith.
He's got numerous awards under his belt from over the years, including Baftas and Tonys from throughout his glittering career, reports the Liverpool Echo. Since the show wrapped up in 2011, Robert has kept himself busy with appearances in Atlantis, Galavant, Genius, Bounty Hunters, Plebs, and McDonald and Dodds.
He also starred in 2015's Bull, alongside Maureen Lipman. In 2014 and 2019, he played King John in the Maleficent film franchise, sharing the screen with Angelina Jolie. Most recently, he featured in Sherwood and Generation Z.
Susan Harper - Zoe Wanamaker
Zoe Wanamaker portrayed the head of the Harper family. As Susan, Zoe was a tour guide, a total control freak, and, most of the time, would get her way. Zoe, like her on-screen husband, has been on our screens since the early '70s.
Her film appearances include Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone in 2001 and Five Children And It in 2004. Many people will recognise her from her various TV roles such as her portrayal of Ariadne Oliver in Agatha Christie's Poirot from 2005 until 2013.
More recently, she was seen in Britannia, Netflix's Shadow and Bone, and Showtime's The Man Who Fell To Earth. Other credits include Killing Eve, Worzel Gummidge, and the film My Week with Marilyn.
This year, she starred in Bergerac in the main role as the character Charlie Hungerford.
Nick Harper - Kris Marshall
Kris Marshall, who portrayed the eldest Harper child, Nick, from 2000 to 2005, was known for his character's carefree nature and knack for landing in tricky situations. Nick tried various jobs, including a stripper and stuntman, but was notoriously inept at all of them.
Marshall, who had already starred in 2003's Love Actually and other roles such as DS Luke Stone in Murder City and Dudley Sutton in Funland, left the show in 2005. His most significant role post-departure was DI Humphrey Goodman in Death in Paradise from 2014 to 2017.
He returned to this role last year in a new spin-off series, Beyond Paradise.
Janey Harper - Daniela Denby-Ashe
The only daughter of the Harper family, Janey, was a fashion-conscious shopaholic and rebel, much to her father Ben's dismay. Denby-Ashe was already well-known on television in 2000, having appeared in EastEnders as Sarah Hills from 1995 to 1999.
She also featured in episodes of Torchwood and played Margaret Gale in North and South. Throughout her career, she's graced the screens in Channel 4's Desmond's, The Bill, and Absolutely Fabulous alongside comedy duo Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders.
After My Family wrapped up, Daniela stayed in the limelight, taking on roles such as Lorraine Donnegan in Waterloo Road and lending her voice to Channel 5's Colin and Justin's Hotel Hell.
Michael Harper - Gabriel Thomson
As the youngest of the Harper brood, Michael was a bit of a mystery compared to his family members. From the get-go, Michael was portrayed as intelligent and held contrasting views to the rest of the Harper tribe.
Gabriel, who was once rumoured to be in the running for the role of Harry Potter before Daniel Radcliffe bagged it, made a comeback with the film The Lost Choices in 2014 after a three-year hiatus from the spotlight. He took a break from acting to pursue university studies. Over time, he has featured in a host of short films.
Roger Bailey Jr - Keiron Self
Welsh actor Keiron Self from series 3 until the show's conclusion in 2011. Roger, the offspring of Ben's mentor, Roger Bailey Sr, ended up falling head over heels for Ben's cousin, Abi.
Unlike Ben, he was a straightforward and jovial character. Keiron, who hails from Newport, has an extensive career in television and theatre.
His CV includes roles as PC Claude Cox in High Hopes and recent appearances in Still Open All Hours, Bittersweet Symphony and A Christmas Number One, for which he also contributed to the screenplay.

Scythers cut back the King's wildflower meadow in annual tradition
Mowers and members of the Scythe Association of Britain & Ireland were pictured cutting back the species-rich plot at Charles's Gloucestershire estate this week as the end of the summer approaches. The King is known to be a fan of the traditional country craft and has in the past turned his hand to the skill, which was once boosted in popularity by actor Aidan Turner scything topless in the BBC drama Poldark. The age old practice, of using a tool with a long curved blade to cut meadows by hand in a low sweeping motion, produces a closer cut to the ground, allowing for better seed germination and maintaining biodiversity while providing crucial winter fodder for livestock. The meadow, which was established more than 40 years ago, covers four acres and is one of the most picturesque gardens at Highgrove House near Tetbury. It was developed by gardening expert Miriam Rothschild in 1982 with special seed mix which replicated old meadows which had been lost over time. Charles, then the Prince of Wales, wanted his experimental meadow to protect native flora and fauna which were in decline thanks to modern farming methods. The original seed mix comprised 32 varieties of native plants, including ox-eye daisies, yellow rattle, common spotted orchid, meadow crane's bill and ragged robin. Managed as a traditional hay meadow, it is cut in summer for hay, and grazed by sheep in the autumn, which helps to tread seeds back into the ground. Yellow rattle keeps grasses cropped, and more than seven types of orchids thrive in the soil. May at Highgrove means sunshine, colour, and life bursting everywhere! The meadow was named as the first of 60 Coronation Meadows in a project initiated Charles ahead of the 60th anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation in 2013. It now contains more than 70 varieties of plants. Highgrove is open to the public from April to October, with all proceeds from visitors going towards the work of The King's Foundation – Charles's charity, based on the site, which works to protect traditional skills and crafts.

Happy Days star Linda Purl reveals Dallas hunk Patrick Duffy's sexy secret to keeping romance alive
Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl are setting a new standard when it comes to romance on and off set. The power couple got candid in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail about their relationship while promoting their upcoming film Hollywood Grit. The feature isn't the first time the veteran actors and romantic partners of five years have worked together. Linda, 69, fondly recalled an early sexy moment from set when she realized mixing work and pleasure was going to work out. She told the Daily Mail: 'It was pretty odd the first time we were working together. We finished a scene and I felt a pat on my derriere… on set! Then I hear 'Nice job honey.' 'I was like huh? Oh! Ok!' Patrick, 76, then blushing and giggling chimed in to his defense, 'It's legal!,' which led to blushing and giggling from the couple. The two had worked together on soap opera The Bold And The Beautiful over seven episodes from 2022 to 2023 as Patrick has starred on and off on the program since 2006. Their contagious chemistry continued as they gushed about their love life at work and at home. Patrick, practically in poetic terms, describes their life together: 'It sounds so cliché, but our life is very romantic, everything that we do has that overtone. It's an I-love-you-relationship. 'So if she's working and I'm not there, yes, I send flowers to the dressing room. If we're working together, I guess it's arrogance, but I consider each of us our own flowers for each other.' Their love story which reads much like the script for a pandemic-era romcom began 40 years after they first met, and developed through hours of nightly phone calls and Zoom chats. Linda said: 'We were finding lots of common threads. Patrick would read a poem that he wrote and then we'd listen to some music. And so it just started to deepen.' All culminating in Patrick making a 20 hour drive for the real-life, in-person first kiss which Linda describes as courageous: 'Patrick was very courageous to get on his white horse…his little blue Prius, and drive [to me] took courage.' Patrick continued: 'To step out of the car and it's just the two of us in a driveway staring at each other. It was like, okay, now what? And I very meekly said, may I kiss you? And then that was it. The deal was sealed.' Duffy heeds an unexpected warning to others out there wishing they could have a love like this but not actively looking for it: 'If they have resigned themselves to being that single person that they think they're going to be the rest of their lives, they pretty much may end up being a singular person the rest of their lives.' For Linda and Patrick the secret to finding love later in life was being open. Duffy explains that despite being single in his 70's, before meeting Linda he was 'Open to new ideas, new people, everything. And when she came into my orbit, it was a different feeling. 'I realized that just being comfortable wasn't enough. Just being satisfied was not enough. That there was a happiness factor that I wasn't experiencing that I got every night on a two-hour Zoom. And it had to be fleshed out.' Now that they've found this great love, perhaps it would be tempting as two rare Hollywood success stories, forever a part of television history with iconic shows like Dallas, Happy Days, Step by Step, Matlock, to leave it all behind? But when asked about retirement it was clear the thought was completely out of the question. 'We don't consider retiring, but what we are are realists. We don't work with the consistency that we did for the first 50 years of our career. And that's okay. We get these moments.. Hollywood Grit come along… and it is an absolute treasure,' Duffy explains. Their chemistry is just as captivating on screen in the new Hollywood Grit as Hollywood jazz club owners Eleanor and Clarence Rhodes. Duffy shares: 'Linda and I would go home each night just thinking, this is the most fun ever.' Purl added: 'For me, to see Patrick in a gold spandex Speedo…how could I say no?' But actually, for a man that is known for being a hunky tv heartthrob, Duffy is relieved to put his shirtless days behind him: 'That's the other beauty of the type of work we do nowadays, I'm paid not to take my shirt off now, which is great!' All jokes aside he adds sincerely about their work in Hollywood Grit: 'It's different than anything we've ever done before and characters that we've done before. I get to watch Linda work which is a tutorial in our profession in and of itself.' Duffy continues, 'To be able to do the kind of characters that you saw other people do and that you thought, oh, that'll be fun someday. And I'm in my someday now.' Hollywood Grit is out in select AMC theaters nationwide August 22.

Shade at Star Wars? Oscar Isaac reveals what would make him return to beleaguered franchise
Oscar Isaac has revealed that he would be willing to return to the Star Wars universe 'if there was something good to do with that.' He played the hotheaded fighter pilot Poe Dameron in the franchise's sequel trilogy, which was brought about by Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. Released between 2015 and 2019, the trio of movies - comprising episodes seven through nine of the main film series - left fans sharply polarized. The last film in the trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, ultimately wound up making roughly half as much as the first one, The Force Awakens. Last year it emerged that the box office profits Disney made from its Star Wars projects had yet to equal the $4 billion it spent buying Lucasfilm, via Forbes. Now Oscar, 46, has shared his own thoughts on Star Wars, in an interview with Euphoria heartthrob Jacob Elordi for Variety. Quoting a fan favorite line from The Simpsons, he said: 'I'm a Star Wars,' then explained that 'I'd be a Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that.' Meanwhile Daisy Ridley, who starred alongside Oscar in the sequel trilogy, will be resuming her role as Rey for an upcoming Star Wars film, the details of which have yet to be unveiled to the fanbase. In recent years, the Star Wars franchise scored a critical and audience success with the runaway triumph of the series The Mandalorian. Pedro Pascal's lead performance and the viral appeal of the adorable 'baby Yoda' have helped make the show a firm fan favorite. However the big screen has lately proven less fruitful for Star Wars, from the diminishing returns of the sequel trilogy to the spin-off Solo flopping outright. In 2020, one year after his last Star Wars film The Rise of Skywalker disappointed at the box office, Oscar announced he wanted to change tack in his career. He shared that he felt he had arrived at 'a personal turning point' and hoped to devote more of his attention to independent projects. As a result he was 'probably' less likely to return to the Star Wars universe, though he would reconsider if he 'needs another house,' he quipped to Deadline. In the years since Star Wars, he has co- starred with Jessica Chastain in the HBO remake of Ingmar Bergman's classic miniseries Scenes from a Marriage. Although his work has included smaller projects like the dark comedy Big Gold Brick, he has also featured in larger tentpole movies like Dune: Part One. Having played Gomez in the 2019 reboot of The Addams Family, he reprised his role for the sequel, which was released two years later. He also had a voice role in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, and this year had a dual part as Jesus and Satan in the Christian cartoon The King of Kings. The King of Kings featured a glittering cast including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Forrest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley and even Oscar's old Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill, famous for playing Luke Skywalker. Fans will be able to see him as Victor Frankenstein in the upcoming movie adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo Del Toro. After premiering at the Venice International Film Festival next week, the movie will be released on streaming via Netflix on November 7.
