Emily Ratajkowski: Men are 'pleasure and fun'

Yahoo19-06-2025
Emily Ratajkowski thinks men are "pleasure and fun". The Too Much actress - who has son Sylvester, four, with ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard - treasures the "community" of people she has around her because guys are no longer "part of [the] core" of who she is. She told the July/ August issue of Britain's ELLE magazine: 'I still like men. I just have zero straight men in my life, unless they're a romantic interest. In the hierarchy of needs, that's at the top of the pyramid, which is nice. "[Men are] pleasure and fun, but not a part of my core. The rest of my life is community with other women and queer people, and being a mom." The 34-year-old actress is relishing being in her 30s. She said: "I'm fascinated with this decade of my life. My mom had me at 39, and I remember she always romanticised her thirties as a time of self-exploration and power as a woman. I'm in the midst of it and really feel that way too." And Emily is excited about taking charge of her own destiny. She said: "'You can't control everything, but you can move towards something to give yourself the life you want, which really excites me, because when I think about 34 to 44, I'm like, 'Oh man, there's so much opportunity.' "I can be so much more intentional than I was in my twenties and there won't be, like, accidents.' " Meanwhile, the Gone Girl star loves being "subversive" by refusing to conform to ideas of "what a mom should look like" and she doesn't care what people think of her clothing because only her son's opinion matters. She said: "I think that [fashion] is actually one of the ways I really enjoy being subversive with motherhood. There's so much around what a mom should look like. "I know what kind of mom I am, and I only deeply care about my son's reaction to that. Anybody else who has opinions about me as a mother because of the way I dress – it's just so inconsequential." Leader of 'cult-like' UK Christian group guilty of sexually abusing women

By Sam Tobin LONDON (Reuters) -The leader of a "cult-like" Christian group once backed by the Church of England has been convicted of sexually abusing nine women in his congregation, after a jury returned their final verdicts on Thursday. Chris Brain, 68, led the Nine O'Clock Service, an evangelical church movement based in Sheffield, northern England, in the 1980s and 1990s. The group's nightclub-style services, which were held at 9 p.m. on Sundays, were aimed at young people, featured a live band and attracted hundreds of people at its peak. But, prosecutors said, Brain controlled members of the congregation, cutting them off from family and friends, and abused his position to sexually assault "a staggering number of women". Brain also had a "homebase team" of young women who looked after him, his wife and daughter at their house in Sheffield, who were dubbed "the lycra nuns", prosecutor Tim Clark said. He was charged with 36 counts of indecent assault and one count of rape relating to 13 women between 1981 and 1995. He denied the charges and said any sexual contact was consensual. After a trial at the Inner London Crown Court, Brain was convicted on Wednesday of 17 charges of indecent assault relating to nine women. He was acquitted of a further 15 counts. The jury was unable to reach a verdict on the remaining four counts of indecent assault and the alleged rape, Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said on Thursday, adding it would "carefully consider" a retrial. 'FAILING OF THE CHURCH' The Nine O'Clock Service had the blessing of the Church of England. Prosecutors said in 1990 that the Archbishop of Canterbury-elect, George Carey, had met Brain to discuss his methods. Brain's ordination was fast-tracked and the Nine O'Clock Service spent "large sums of money" to obtain the outfit worn by actor Robert De Niro for the 1986 film 'The Mission' for the ceremony, prosecutors said. But Brain resigned and left the church days before the broadcast of a 1995 BBC documentary, which accused him of sexually inappropriate behaviour. Carey said he was "crushed and let down" when the allegations were made public. In his evidence, Brain said he received massages from members of the Nine O'Clock Service, which he said occasionally moved towards sexual activity. He also denied controlling or manipulating members of the congregation. "What happened was an appalling abuse of power and leadership that should never have occurred," Bishop of Sheffield Pete Wilcox said in a statement. "Where concerns were raised in the past and were not acted upon properly, that was a failing of the Church. For those institutional failures I offer an unreserved apology." Emma Stone in Bugonia, which was filmed across the United Kingdom as well as Greece. Atsushi Nishijima/Focus Features © 2025 All Rights Reserved. Bugonia (dir. Yorgos Lanthimos): United Kingdom, Greece Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is best known for his work on The Favourite (which one seven BAFTAs, a Golden Globe and an Oscar), Poor Things (four Oscars and two Golden Globes) and The Lobster (a British Independent Film Award and four awards at Cannes). In Bugonia, Emma Stone(The Favourite, Bleat, Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness) and Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness) both return to work with Lanthimos in his latest black comedy-slash-sci-fi feature. The film is a reimagining of Save the Green Planet!, a 2003 South Korean movie, this time involving a conspiracy theorist (Plemons) kidnapping a CEO (Stone) in a take that blends dark twists and turns with tension-breaking wit and humor. According to Spot Filming Location, Bugonia was shot across several different UK locations, including Oxshott in Surrey, where the incredible house owned by Stone's character is located, and areas across High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, used as urban exterior and street shots throughout the film. The sleek office building Stone's character works in was shot at Botanica Ditton Park, near Slough. The film ends with scenes in Greece, shot at Sarakiniko Beach on Milos, a stunning Greek island known for its lunar-like landscape and pristine beaches. The Testament of Ann Lee (dir. Mona Fastvold): Budapest, Gothenburg Fresh off the back of his 2024 best director Oscar for The Brutalist, 2025 will see Brady Corbet's latest work: The Testament of Ann Lee. Starring Amanda Seyfried, Thomasin McKenzie(Jojo Rabbit; The Power of the Dog) and Lewis Pullman(Top Gun: Maverick; Salem's Lot), the film centres around titular Ann Lee (played by Seyfried), the founding leader of the Shaker Movement as she establishes the sect. Set in 18th-century England, the movie's shoots have been kept largely under wraps, but rumor has it the team used locations around Budapest in Hungry and Gothenburg in Sweden. Premiering at Venice Film Festival and then again at Toronto Film Festival, this historical musical drama is already set to be a fascinating watch. Father Mother Sister Brother (dir. Jim Jarmusch): New Jersey, Dublin, Paris Director Jim Jarmusch is renowned for his indie movies, loved for their moodiness and minimalism. His first film in six years promises more of the same. Set up as a study of familial relations, the film is split into three sections following different family members around the world. The first section follows a father (Tom Waits) as his two adult sons (Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik) visit him in the American northeast; the second takes us to Dublin where a mother (Charlotte Rampling) is visited by her daughters (Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett), and the third and final section follows twins (Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat) as they grapple with a family tragedy while in Paris. It's set to be a masterpiece in character study, using location to set the tone for each new chapter. A version of this story originally appeared on Condé Nast Traveller UK.

Kirsten Dunst Opens up About an ‘Extremely Frightening' Motherhood Moment With 4-Year-Old Son James

Traveling with kids doesn't always go according to plan. In fact, the only thing you can count on is that something will go awry! Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons experienced more than minor setbacks during a recent trip abroad, which led to an 'extremely frightening' motherhood moment with 4-year-old James. The Civil War star briefly relocated with her husband and their sons, James and Ennis, 7, to Budapest while she filmed The Entertainment System Is Down. She enrolled Ennis in school and was prepared for a six-month stay overseas, when her son got sick. In a cover interview with Town & Country, Dunst revealed that her youngest child had a serious health scare, and even though everything is fine now, it was 'extremely frightening' at the time. More from SheKnows Millie Bobby Brown & Jake Bongiovi Just Made a Shocking Announcement: They Welcomed a Baby Girl! According to the outlet, the health scare sent Plemons and their boys back home to Los Angeles to be with extended family and Dunst continued to work. She compared her feelings to 'Final Destination, where you're imagining all the things that could go wrong, worst case scenarios happening to your child.' 'I have never seen that movie,' she added. 'But I know the concept. That's how it feels to be a mother at times.' Our hearts are breaking for her! Dealing with your baby's health crisis would be hard at any time, but in another country? That would be so challenging. Dunst didn't confirm what the health scare was, but she did say that she felt like this experience 'brought us together as a family in such a deeper way.' And now that she's done filming, they're going on a vacation that's more focused on fun. She said that her and Plemons promised to go 'anywhere James wanted to go' and vacation, and he sweetly requested, 'I want to go to a beach where my sandcastle won't wash away.' Aww, sweet baby! Last year, the Bring It On alum opened up about how difficult motherhood is. 'The hardest thing is being a mom and … not feeling like, I have nothing for myself,' she told Marie Claire. 'That's every mother—not just me.' Still, it has some beautiful moments too, as every parent knows. Dunst shared about her toddler sneaking into her bed to snuggle and breathing on her with his 'stinky breath' and her eldest son 'eating three lollipops at once' and watching 'Weird Mario on YouTube.' 'I'm, like, a Volvo soccer mom right now,' Dunst added. Now that her son's health crisis is over, Dunst can go back to being a soccer mom and a sandcastle-building mom, no doubt appreciating it more than ever before.
