Girlfriend's gut-wrenching message after her partner was shot dead outside Sydney pub – as his young family is torn apart in latest wave of gang violence

Daily Mail2 days ago
The man shot dead outside an inner-city pub in an apparent act of gang violence has been pictured for the first time.
Gilbert Shino, 39, was gunned down in a hail of bullets on Sunday night at The Harold hotel in Forest Lodge.
He died at the scene, while his friend, 31-year-old Maradona Yalda, was also shot but survived.
Daily Mail can exclusively reveal he was a parent of three children together with his girlfriend Natasha Avakian, who shared an emotional tribute to her slain partner last night.
'How am I going to live without you? You were my life,' she posted to Instagram.
It is understood the couple has been together many years. It cannot be confirmed if they were married - Daily Mail has reached out to Ms Avakian for for comment.
A separate post revealed his family would be accepting condolences at St Mary's Assyrian Church Of the East in Smithfield on Tuesday evening.
It is understood that Mr Shino and Ms Avakian have two daughters and a son, who died last year. He lived in Middleton Grange, west of Sydney - a 45 minute drive from the Harold pub.
Up to 15 gunshots rang out at watering hole at Forest Lodge, in the city's inner-west, about 6.35pm on Sunday.
Two men were shot multiple times before the gunmen fled the scene.
Mr Yalda, 31, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, which has been downgraded to stable.
Mr Shino died at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics and an off-duty doctor.
Police are investigating whether a torched Ford Mustang, found in Rydalmere at 9.50pm on Monday night, is linked to the shooting - though no connections have been made at this stage.
Police sources told the Daily Telegraph that Mr Yalda flew back into Australia four days ago, despite knowing there was a contract on his head.
Mr Yalda is understood to have links with an Assyrian street gang called DLASTHR, along with former Comanchero bikie Andre Kallita, who has since left the club.
There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Mr Yalda.
The gunman behind the 'outrageous, brazen, callous attack' remains on the run on Tuesday. No arrests have been made.
Police are investigating a number of motives, including whether the shooting is related to an internal dispute among Assyrian gang members.
They're also looking at potential links to a recent firebombing in Sydney's west.
Police also revealed that Mr Yalda and his friend had just left the pub when they were ambushed.
'They were making their way to the car, which was parked about 100m up the road,' Leichhardt Superintendent Alf Sergi told 2GB's Ben Fordham on Monday.
'As they got closer to the vehicle, they appear to have been ambushed. Shots fired.
'The 39-year-old male, he suffered gunshot wounds and fell to the ground.
'Police were nearby… they treated the man with the help of a doctor that was a resident nearby, and also paramedics, but unfortunately he succumbed to his wounds.'
Mr Yalda was chased by the gunman before shots were fired.
A man standing near Mr Shino could be heard on the phone shouting, 'he's my best friend'.
The gastropub was packed with patrons enjoying dinner at the time.
Staff locked the entrance as people sheltered under tables while dozens of shots were fired outside.
A car parked outside the venue, which opened in 1880, on Ross Street was hit by several bullets.
Innocent patrons and staff almost got caught up in the terrifying ordeal.
'A bullet did hit a window and narrowly missed a female staff member… it's a narrow street there, and also the pub nearby, obviously the bullets were flying in that direction. It would have been very, very frightening for them,' Superintendent Sergi said.
'We believe it's a targeted attack, yes, based on one of the victim's backgrounds with possible links to organised criminal networks.'
Police haven't ruled out more than one gunman being involved.
'At this stage it is not clear, so we're working on the principle that's this stage one gunman, but there's possibly more,' Superintendent Sergi said.
'We're looking for a vehicle, a dark-coloured vehicle… we're really looking forward to the public giving us information, especially dashcam, to help put the pieces of the puzzle together.'
Local residents were reportedly told to stay inside their homes and wait for police to take statements.
The crime scene remained cordoned off on Monday.
State Crime Command's Homicide Squad is assisting detectives with the investigation.
It is the 13th public shooting - and the fourth fatal attack across Sydney in the last eight months.
Not all victims have had underworld links - plumber John Versace was executed in his driveway in Condell Park in a case of mistaken identity.

Police arrest two after ice cream seller, 41, stabbed to death in Wembley

An ice cream seller who was stabbed to death in north-west London has been named by the Metropolitan Police. Shazad Khan, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to reports of an altercation in Monks Park in Wembley at 6.10pm on Tuesday. His family have been informed and a murder investigation was launched, the Met said. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of Wednesday, while a 31-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene for conspiracy to murder, the force said. Both individuals remain in custody. Local residents said that that Mr Khan was well known in the area for selling ice creams in a van. Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, who lives in nearby Tokyngton Avenue, said he was childhood friends with the victim. Speaking at the scene, he said: 'I got a call from one of my cousins. 'This guy, we know him – he's a famous ice cream guy. He got stabbed yesterday. 'I came here and his body was still here, and police had cordoned off the area. 'We don't know the reason why, but all that we know is that a guy with a grey hoodie stabbed him eight times. That's what I've been told. 'I know his brothers as well – they're all local. We all used to play cricket and football here in Monks Park. 'He started (selling) ice cream about a year ago.' Mr Butt said the victim was married and had a young daughter. The victim's ice cream van, which had been parked on the road at the time of the incident, was well known locally for having a large teddy bear, the witness added. A second witness, who did not want to be named, said the ice cream van was towed away from the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A blue forensics tent and a number of Met officers could be seen inside a police cordon in Monks Park on Wednesday afternoon. Removal vehicles also took away a separate white van and blue car. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, local policing commander for north-west London, said: 'Our thoughts remain with Shazad's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. 'This incident will rightly cause concern across the community, but intelligence at this stage leads us to believe there is no wider threat to the public. 'Detectives are conducting a thorough and fast-paced investigation, and locals can expect to see an uptick in police presence in the area. 'Anyone with any information – particularly dashcam or doorbell footage from the time of the incident – is urged to speak to us as a matter of urgency.'

Ernesto Barajas dead at 38: Enigma Norteño star who praised drug lords in songs gunned down in Mexico

Controversial Mexican music star Ernesto Barajas - who glorified drug lords in his songs - was shot dead in a parking lot on Tuesday. Barajas, 38, who was a singer in successful band Enigma Norteño, was gunned down in Zapopan in the Mexican state of Jalisco around 1pm local time, per El Universal. Police said two men 'burst into' the parking lot by motorcycle and opened fire on Barajas. Another man was killed in the attack and a woman was injured in the leg. Police said two men approached Barajas by motorcycle in a parking lot on Tuesday and opened fire on him. Barajas and another man died instantly in the attack and a woman was injured in the leg. It was reported that Barajas had received threats from organized crime in 2023 with the publication citing unofficial information indicating the shooting may have been a 'settling of scores.' The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the killing. Enigma Norteño were famed for their 'narcocorridos' performances - referring to a a controversial folk-music genre accused of celebrating the exploits of Mexico's drug traffickers. Narcocorridos are often commissioned and paid for by individuals or groups involved in drug trafficking, including cartels and their members. The group - which has more than four million monthly listeners - has always said its songs portray Mexican society, rather than glorifying violence. Enigma Norteño has a track called Los Chapitos, in homage to the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, who is serving a life sentence at a Colorado super max prison. In July 2023, it was reported by El Financiero that Barajas had canceled his show in Rosarito, Baja California due to receiving an alleged threat from CJNG (Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación) on a 'narcomanta' (a cloth banner). His management company Tanto Líder shared an emotional tribute to the star along with an image of him with angel wings. 'Rest in peace, Ernesto Barajas. Your Tanto Líder family will always be proud of you and remember you as the great artist and human being you were,' read the statement. 'May God hold you in His holy love.' Enigma Norteño were affected by a ban enacted in some Mexican states on narcocorridos public performances over fears the songs glorify crime and contribute to a culture of violence. In a May interview on Telemundo, Barajas hit back at these assumptions, sayuing: 'In my opinion, a song, a corrido, has nothing to do with what is happening in Mexico. About five or six years ago, there was also a wave of zero corridos. 'We once played in Chihuahua, which is one of the strictest states. I remember we made a list and played only songs, literally, and we had to do what other colleagues are doing, which is just playing the accordion and stuff, and they (the audience) were the ones singing.' His final Instagram post on August 14 , five days before his death, teased the band's new song with singer and producer Edgardo Nuñez, Hello Kitty.
