Cam Newton calls out New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton isn't pleased with the current population of NFL players these days. Not for their lack of ability or dedication, but for their little regard when it comes to the history of the game.
The institutional knowledge that gets passed from generation to generation is waning, and Newton has become a bit frustrated that the new crop of NFL stars has lost their frame of reference regarding the players who went before them.
When Newton heard that New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo did not recognize Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson, Newton just had to speak up on his podcast, 4th&1.
"They not fans of the game," the former NFL MVP said, via Sportskeeda. These kids -- they playing video games all day. Have you ever heard of Chad Ochocinco? Have you heard of Terrell Owens? Have you heard of Steve Smith? Have you heard of Prime Time?
"They're looking at everything on YouTube. And granted, to Cam Skattebo's defense, a lot of what he sees has been on probably YouTube. And he plays a sport that's a mass sport."
Newton then suggested that anyone who wants to be a professional athlete should dedicate "30 minutes or an hour" a day to the sport they are going to play.
Newton, 36, has been out of football for four years already but keeps current with the game through his podcast and other media ventures. You can add him to the growing number of former athletes who scratch their heads over the sparse knowledge among their descendants.

Josh Allen's Unexpected Decision Leaves Fans in Disbelief
Josh Allen's Unexpected Decision Leaves Fans in Disbelief originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is coming off an NFL MVP season in which he threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions, while also rushing for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. Advertisement In December 2021, Allen signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike, which included apparel and footwear. With the Bills holding mandatory minicamp from June 10-12, all eyes were on Allen as he geared up for his eighth NFL season. However, the 29-year-old didn't wear Nike cleats — a departure from his consistent practice of wearing them since signing his deal. Allen instead wore white New Balance cleats, a clear indication that he left Nike this offseason. Photos of Allen in the cleats made their way to social media, and fans were shocked by the move. "No way 😒," a fan said. "His cleat game was fire last season. Shame on Nike," another wrote. Advertisement "Diabolical 😂," added another. "Jeez. New balance must be paying big," wrote a fan. "😔 but happy for him. He was killing it in Nik," said another. "I like New Balance but Nike is King in the Football Space," one said. Tiger Woods Reacts to Major PGA Tour Announcement on Tuesday
Tiger Woods Reacts to Major PGA Tour Announcement on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While Tiger Woods continues to rehab from the torn Achilles injury he suffered prior to this year's Masters, he has still remained an important figure within the PGA Tour. Advertisement Following the news that longtime commissioner Jay Monahan will step down at the end of 2026, a search committee was formed to identify the PGA Tour's next CEO and commissioner. Woods played a major role on that committee, joining Arthur M. Blank, Adam Scott, Sam Kennedy, Joe Gorder, and Monahan in the months-long process to find the right successor. On Tuesday, the PGA Tour officially announced that longtime NFL executive Brian Rolapp will take over as CEO. Rolapp most recently served as the NFL's Chief Media and Business Officer and brings over two decades of league experience to the role. Following the announcement, Woods reacted on X, sharing a message of support for Rolapp and praising Monahan for everything he's done for golf. "Congrats to Brian on becoming CEO of the PGA TOUR," Woods wrote. "I'm excited about where the TOUR is headed. And a big thank you to Jay for everything he's done for our game and for the players and fans." This process began over the past year when Jay Monahan informed his colleagues of his decision to step down after the 2026 season. He echoed Tiger Woods' sentiment, expressing confidence that Brian Rolapp is the right person to lead the PGA Tour into the future. Advertisement "A year ago, I informed our Boards that upon completing a decade as Commissioner, I would step down from my role at the end of 2026,' Monahan said 'Since then, we've worked together to identify a leader who can build on our momentum and develop a process that ensures a smooth transition. We've found exactly the right leader in Brian Rolapp, and I'm excited to support him as he transitions from the NFL into his new role leading the PGA TOUR.' Headshot of PGA Tour Commissioner Jay MonahanAlex Gould-USA TODAY NETWORK This is a crucial time for the PGA Tour and its future, especially as the LIV Golf League continues to grow and expand. Following the announcement of his appointment as the next CEO, Brian Rolapp issued a clear statement outlining his vision. 'I'm honored to join the PGA TOUR at such a pivotal time,' said Rolapp. 'The PGA TOUR represents the highest level of competition, integrity and global opportunity in the game of golf, and I believe deeply in the TOUR's mission and its potential to grow even stronger. I'm ready to get to work—alongside our players, partners and leadership team—to build lasting value and deliver an even more dynamic future for the sport and our fans.' Advertisement Related: J.J.
