Jessie J Shares Update as She Undergoes Breast Cancer Surgery
In a new post shared June 24, Jessie (born Jessica Cornish) reflected on the highs and lows of the last 48 hours following her operation. 'Blood warning!! This post is some of the honest lows and highs… I will always show the good and hard bits of any journey I go through,' she wrote, alongside photos and a short video from her hospital bed. 'Grateful to my doctor / surgeon and all the nurses who cared for me and all my family / friends who came to visit.'

She added that she is now home to rest and awaiting results. 'Still hugging everyone going through something tough right now. We all got this!'
The British singer performed what she described as her final show before surgery at Capital's Summertime Ball earlier this month, telling the crowd of 75,000 at Wembley Stadium, 'Today, this show is my last show before I go to beat breast cancer!… It's the most special thing and I'm so grateful for this life, for you guys, for my career, for my son. My partner. My parents.'
The pop star revealed her diagnosis earlier this month in a June 3 Instagram post, telling followers that the news came just before the release of her April single, 'No Secrets.' 'I'm highlighting the word 'early,'' she wrote at the time. 'Cancer sucks in any form but I'm holding on to the word 'early.''
Since her diagnosis, Jessie has been candid about the emotional process, sharing that she's been 'in and out of tests' and chose to go public with her story not only to process her reality but also to be a source of strength for others. 'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories,' she said. 'I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much – similar and worse.'
In one lighthearted moment, she joked, 'I'm getting to keep my nipples, that's good,' she continued. 'It's a weird topic and a weird situation. And I know the press are going to say crazy stuff but you know what, to get diagnosed with this as I'm putting out a song called 'No Secrets' right before a song called 'Living My Best Life,' which was all pre-planned before I found out about this, I mean, you can't make it up.'
Jessie has long been open about her health. In 2020, she revealed a diagnosis of Ménière's disease, and in the years since has also shared her experience with miscarriage, OCD, and ADHD. She welcomed her son, Sky, in 2023.

Do you know your ball knowledge from your betas? Your sigmas from your Skibidi Toilets? And, let's be honest—do you really understand what it means to be having a 'brat winter'? A new study by JD Sports has revealed that terms like sigma, aura and Skibidi are among the fastest-growing slang trends among Gen Z in the UK. Drawing from Instagram, TikTok, and Google search data, the findings show what Gen Z have really been saying (and searching) this year. The study highlights sigma, the term for a lone wolf 'bad boy' type, as the most popular term, with 167 searches per 100,000 people in the UK. Following closely behind are aura (meaning charisma, attractiveness) and Skibidi (from the viral Skibidi Toilet YouTube show) each recording 75 searches per 100,000, while other terms such as brat, mid and rizz garnered 61 searches per 100,000. London has also been named the 'brat capital' of the UK, with 169 searches per 100,000 people, making it the dominant city for 'bratitude', as it were. Brat, for those who don't know, is the term recently popularised by Charli xcx to mean messy, debauched, and generally party-oriented. To be having a brat summer or brat winter is just an extension of brat — to be channelling your inner brat for a whole season. Otherwise, the capital city hovered around the national average for terms like sigma (169 searches per 100,000), aura (92), and mid (92). Quite beta of us, really. In Belfast, the term sigma is apparently thriving, with 253 searches per 100,000 people, followed by Newcastle (251) and Bristol (235). Birmingham led in searches for aura, with 143 per 100,000, ahead of Newcastle (112) and Manchester (104). Meanwhile, Bristol ranked first for "Skibidi," indicating a clear Skibidi Toilet obsession in the southwest. The study also identified the slang terms experiencing long term growth in popularity. Rizz (charisma) emerged as a key contender, with a staggering 12,456 per cent increase over the past four years. It was followed by brainrot (when consuming too much content leads to a decline in mental state), which increased by 7,018 per cent over the same time period. This comes as multiple dictionaries have listed Gen Z-led terms as their 'word of the year'. For Collins dictionary, back in November, it was brat, as led by the popularity of Charli xcx's latest album. For Oxford, it was brainrot, as corroborated by JDSports's findings. For it was demure, a result of TikTok creator Jools Lebron's catchphrase 'very demure, very mindful' catching on earlier this year. And for Cambridge, it was manifest, which honestly feels a little too dated to be a 2024 word of the year, but then Cambridge aren't exactly the forefront of modernity, are they? Maybe they should have tried asking some of their own students. Over the past month, more recent contenders have been cropping up as we enter 2025. Our prediction? Ball knowledge (i.e the in-depth understanding of a sport or, further, the in-depth understanding of anything at all) will be huge for 2025. Just watch.

Sheridan Smith says she ‘used to drink' to cope but now is a ‘totally different person'
Actor Sheridan Smith has said she's changed as a person since she stopped relying on alcohol to help her to cope with life, and instead sought guidance through professional therapy. The Royle Family star, 44, who's starred in acclaimed biographical dramas including Cilla as Cilla Black, Mrs Biggs as Charmian Biggs (wife of Great Train Robber Ronnie), and The C Word as cancer patient Lisa Lynch, said she previously used 'acting as therapy' before reaching a turning point. Smith suffered what she described as a public 'meltdown' in 2016, following her father Colin's terminal cancer diagnosis. She took a leave of absence from work and welcomed her son, Billy, in May 2020 with her former partner, insurance broker Jamie Horn, whom she dated between 2018 and 2021. 'Having moved up north with my little boy, suddenly coming back to London and having photographers shouting, 'This way, this way,' it's overwhelming,' Smith told The Guardian. 'Obviously I used to drink and find my way through it that way – but now I've found therapy, got my little boy, I'm sober, doing yoga and meditation, I'm a totally different person.' Smith said her latest role in the forthcoming ITV drama I Fought the Law, in which she plays Ann Ming – a nurse who changed the UK's double jeopardy legislation law in order to jail her 22-year-old daughter's murderer – really 'took it out' of her. 'I was always going back and forth between drinking and sobriety. But this time I feel it's for real,' the actor said. 'I am, though, going to choose my parts very carefully. Sobriety and my son come first, so anything that might knock me off kilter I would be careful of.' The Gavin and Stacey star said her hardest day on the I Fought the Law set came during a scene where Ann tells her grandson she has lied to him about how his mum died. She said: 'I didn't realise Ann was watching – I don't think I could have done it if I had known – until she walked on set and said: 'It was like you're in my body.' And we were both bawling our eyes out.' Smith noted that, although she's wary of taking on further emotionally demanding roles, she keeps returning to biographical dramas over sitcoms due to their significance. 'Ann doesn't get to go home to her daughter. So the least I could do was go through those nine weeks' torture,' she said. 'It is just acting, but at the same time I find playing a real person gives me purpose. I love doing comedy and make-believe but there's something about playing a real person's story.' The Punisher and Spider-Man Face Off in New SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Set Photos — GeekTyrant
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially wrapped filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and a new batch of set photos might be the most interesting yet. Not only do we get more comic-accurate poses from Spidey, but there's also a tense moment that teases a fiery clash between the wall-crawler and Frank Castle himself. Among the final photos, the most attention-grabbing shot shows Spider-Man perched on the hood of The Punisher's Battle Van while Frank Castle, gun drawn, sits behind the wheel. While it's unclear if that's actually Jon Bernthal in the driver's seat or a stand-in, the imagery is straight out of the comics and confirms that these two vigilantes are not going to be allies right away. These Glasgow scenes, doubling for New York City, offer a glimpse of the gritty street-level vibe director Destin Daniel Cretton seems to be aiming for. Spidey's suit looks fantastic, and the photos really show off the practical approach this film is taking. Tom Holland is clearly hyped about returning to the role. Talking about his first day on set, he shared: "I feel good, man. It's day one, my fourth ever day one on Spider-Man. You know, it's funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It's also the first time we've ever had fans on set for day one, so it's really exciting to share this with them." He added: "Now, we're really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we're starting in Glasgow and we're gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we're putting together. So it's gonna feel like making [2017's] [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again." And he finished with: "It's been such a long time since I've done it, it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together." With The Punisher now part of the story, fans can expect some hard-hitting moral conflict mixed into the classic superhero action. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Alongside Holland and Bernthal, the cast features Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, and Liza Colón-Zayas. The film is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, and while shooting is expected to continue elsewhere in Europe, it's unclear if we'll get more behind-the-scenes looks. Either way, this final glimpse from Glasgow has definitely raised the hype.
