THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women's basketball head coach Karen Blair announced on Wednesday Brianna Turnage has signed a grant-in-aid to join the Yellow Jackets for her final year of eligibility. Turnage brings three seasons of experience competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference to The Flats.An Atlanta, Ga., native, Turnage played her first three seasons at Florida State, appearing in 90 games and earning the start in 30. The 6-1 guard helped the Seminoles to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances (2023, 2024, 2025), while finishing in the top six of the ACC standings all three years. Each season Turnage was a Seminole, Florida State posted 20-plus wins and at least 12 ACC victories.'We are so thrilled to welcome Brianna back home to Atlanta,' said Blair. 'She is a winner and knows what it takes to compete at the highest level having already participated in three NCAA Tournaments. Our staff loves the versatility that she brings on the court.'Turnage played in all 33 games last season for the Seminoles, averaging 13.9 minutes per game and finishing fourth with 12 blocks. She pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds against Jacksonville, while just missing double-figure scoring totals several times. Against Drexel, Turnage went 3-for-3 from three-point distance to finish with nine points.During her sophomore campaign, Turnage tallied 11 points against Alabama State, going 4-for-4 from the field, and secured seven rebounds. The Georgia native recorded a pair of double-figure rebounding outings, securing 10 rebounds against Clemson and Syracuse. She just missed a double-double against Boston College with nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. Her freshman season saw Turnage take the floor in 23 outings and recording a double-double against Presbyterian behind 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Mr. 57 threatens 59, shares lead after first round of RBC Canadian Open
CALEDON, Ontario — Cristobal Del Solar came off the Korn Ferry Tour with the nickname 'Mr. 57.' He flirted with a 59 late Thursday afternoon in the RBC Canadian Open. Ten under with two holes left on the par-70 layout, Del Solar bogeyed the par-4 17th and parred the par-5 18th for a 9-under 61 and a share of the first-round lead with Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark. 'I was just trying to hit good shots.' Del Solar said. 'I was just trying to stay in the present and have fun. That's what I was trying to do.' Del Solar, the 31-year-old PGA Tour rookie from Chile, and Olsen took advantage of soft greens on the North Course at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley after rain Wednesday night that continued into the morning. Del Solar earned the 'Mr. 57' moniker in February 2024 when he shot a 13-under 57 in the first round of the Astara Golf Championship in Colombia for the lowest score in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. On Thursday, Del Solar had seven birdies in an eight-hole stretch in the middle of the round. The former Florida State player made a 6 1/2-foot birdie putt on the par-3 14th, and ran in a 15 1/2-footer on the par-4 16th to get to 10 under. On the 17th, he hit into a right greenside bunker, blasted 10 feet past and missed the par putt to the right. Needing an eagle on 18 for a 59, he drove into the left rough, then hit his second about 80 yards short of the green. 'I just want to go and execute each shot,' Del Solar said. 'I think everyone kind of sometimes gets ahead themselves and thinking of the result or whatever. You just want to go out and just hit the golf shots.' Olesen eagled the 18th — his ninth hole of the day — and had eight birdies and a bogey on the course hosting the national championship for the first time. 'Obviously, I played great, but my putting was exceptional today,' Olesen said. 'Don't think I missed any putts really out there. I definitely holed some long ones as well. It was nice to see everything go in.' Olesen qualified for the U.S. Open next week at Oakmont on Monday, holing a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole at Lambton in Toronto. 'I took a lot from that last putt,' Olesen said. Afternoon starters held the top eight spots and 15 of the first 18, with Masters champion Rory McIlroy bogeying the final two holes in the morning in a 71. 'Missed a couple of greens and didn't get them up-and-down, especially those last couple holes,' said McIlroy, the tournament winner in 2019 at Hamilton and 2022 at St. George's. Del Solar and Olesen were a stroke off the tournament record of 60 set by Carl Pettersson in 2010 in the third round at St. George's, and matched by Justin Rose in the fourth round in 2022, also at St. George's. Cameron Champ shot a 62, Jake Knapp had a 63, and Rasmus Hojgaard, Shane Lowry, Trey Mullinax and Ricky Castillo were at 64. Knapp shot 59 in March in the first round of the Cognizant Classic. Canadian Taylor Pendrith was at 65 with defending champion Robert MacIntyre. Alex Smalley, Paul Peterson, Danny Willett, Rafael Campos, Kevin Yu, Alejandro Tosti and Paul Waring. This local team eyes Florida basketball guard Walter Clayton Jr. ahead of NBA draft Florida basketball head coach Todd Golden revealed that the Orlando Magic are among the NBA teams expressing strong interest in guard Walter Clayton Jr. after appearing on FanDuel's Run It Back podcast. Clayton is a projected first-round pick in this year's NBA draft after putting up one of the most decorated individual seasons in Florida Gators basketball history. "One of the teams that always wins will figure it out and take him," Golden said. "I know the Magic really like him, and they have two picks in the first round. One of those teams that really values a winning player, a guy who has a really good attitude and has won at the highest level in college, I think someone will figure it out in a big way and hopefully select him close to that lottery." Orlando holds the No. 16 and No. 25 overall picks in the 2025 draft, both falling within the range where Clayton has been consistently projected by analysts. Clayton, a 6-foot-3-inch guard, led the Gators to a national championship in 2025, capturing Final Four Most Outstanding Player, SEC Tournament MVP and consensus first-team All-America honors. He set a Gators single-season scoring record with 713 points while also hitting 117 threes–the second-most ever by a Gator in one season. After transferring from Iona and spending two seasons at Florida, Clayton scored 1,346 points, hit 210 three-pointers and maintained an .876 free throw percentage–all top marks in program history. Golden believes Clayton's versatility and intangibles will translate immediately at the next level. "The jump that he's made over the last 12 months, I don't think has been appreciated," Golden said. "Obviously, he was the darling of the NCAA Tournament and put us on his back at times and finished games for us and deserved to win Most Outstanding Player. I think he is a remarkable basketball player. He can shot-make with the best of them." The 2025 NBA draft will be held from June 25-26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. As for the Orange and Blue, they'll reload again for another title chase, but Clayton's departure marks the end of a historic chapter–and potentially the beginning of another just over 100 miles away in Orlando.
