Alexander Isak has made Liverpool feelings clear as Reds plan record move for Newcastle star
Newcastle star Alexander Isak is firmly on Liverpool's radar and the Swede previously made it clear how much he adores playing at Anfield. Since moving to England in 2022 he's only had limited opportunities to play on Merseyside, but it has left its impression.
Isak scored on first appearance there early in his Newcastle days and now the Reds are preparing another club-record bid to lure the striker. Liverpool have already spent upwards of £200million this summer but it is understood they are ready to test Newcastle's resolve.
The Times claim Newcastle are braced for an official offer from Liverpool, which could be in the region of £130m as they look to land one of Europe's most sought after strikers.
Isak has never expressed any desire to leave Newcastle, but it remains to be seen if he has his head turned. He scored against Liverpool when they won the Carabao Cup at Wembley last year but has years to run on his deal at St James' Park.
The striker moving would require Liverpool to break the British-transfer record for the second time in a matter of weeks having already signed Florian Wirtz, but Isak's words may give them some encouragement.
He said: "There are not many places like St James' Park. The atmosphere is very special and I think you can judge a stadium, not just on the atmosphere but how difficult it is to come as an away team. It's a special place. I think people have a hard time coming to the stadium."
Unprompted the Swede then also underlined his admiration for Liverpool's iconic ground. He said: 'I'd say Anfield is probably up there as well," Isak added. "The atmosphere is really good - it's probably the toughest away game.'
Newcastle have maintained that their top players are not for sale - and retaining them has been made easier following a season where they won a trophy and returned to the Champions League. Isak, as well as Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes, have been linked with moves away in the past, but the club have no intention to sell and want to bolster their ranks with their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike underlining their ambition.
Despite that Eddie Howe admitted he wouldn't give guarantees about who would still be at Newcastle come the new season. The manager said back in May: "I never make those guarantees about any player. It's not to do with Alex's future, I'd be foolish to sit here and do anything like that."

Josh Taylor retires from boxing due to eye injury
Taylor underwent eye surgery last year and has been advised by specialists that to continue could endanger his eyesight. The 34-year-old will go down in history as one of Scotland's greatest boxers, having won and then unified the world light-welterweight titles. Taylor went on to beat previously undefeated Jose Ramirez to become the undisputed champion in Las Vegas in May 2021. Taylor suffered his first defeat to Teofimo Lopez in New York in June 2023 and was also beaten in a rematch by British rival Jack Catterall in his following bout. After undergoing surgery, Taylor returned for a bout against Ekow Essuman in Glasgow in May this year, but suffered his third consecutive defeat.

Martin admits the stakes are high, but stressed: 'It's not going to be a season-defining game, it's not. 'It's a really, really big game, but a season is a long season. 'It will be defined by what we do between now and May. It's a big game. Every game for Rangers is a big game. 'Every game is a must-win at Rangers. But it's not season-defining. 'The squad will look very different in four or five weeks, I'm convinced of that. 'But the team we have now, the squad we have now, we have to put in a performance that looks like us, feels like us and one that we can build off and ultimately win the game. Both Dessers and Igamane have been linked with moves this summer. The pair will be involved at some stage, with Martin full of praise for the man ready to step up. After last season's injury hell, Danilo is fully fit and firing again and last night the Gers gaffer insisted: 'They're not ready to start a game yet, they're not ready to play 90 minutes, but they're definitely ready to contribute. There are concerns among the Rangers fans that a match of this magnitude is coming too soon. Should they progress, Gers would face either Viktoria Plzen or Servette in the third qualifying round. Should they exit, Martin's men would have to overcome either Besiktas or Shakhtar Donetsk to reach the Europa League play-offs. The Gers boss said: 'We'll find out tomorrow if we're ready. 'In terms of preparation, work, physically, tactically, the connection between the way we work, the players, us, I've been so pleased over the four weeks, but it's not a long time. 'Tomorrow's going to be a really big test for us to see how far along we are and see how much work we have to do. 'I think that's the most interesting thing for us as a coaching staff, is that tomorrow we will learn a lot about the group, we will learn a lot about how we need to prioritise moving forward over the next few weeks."
