Delhi: NDA CMs, Dy CMs arrive for alliance meeting chaired by PM Modi
Chief Ministers from across India from the 19 NDA-ruled states arrive at the venue, with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Tripura CM Manik Saha, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel all reaching the spot earlier today.
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy CMs Vijay Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, Chhattisgarh Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida, Maharashtra Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, Nagaland Deputy CMs TR Zeliang and Yanthungo Patton, Rajasthan Deputy CMs Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari, and Uttar Pradesh Deputy CMs Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya also arrive at the venue.
BJP National President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also arrived at the venue for the meeting.
As per sources, the meeting is being organised to brief the leaders about the Operation Sindoor and India's broader security strategy following the recent developments.
The meeting comes days after India's military carried out strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) under 'Operation Sindoor'.
'A meeting has been convened to brief the leaders about India's strike on terror camps in Pakistan, Operation Sindoor and understanding on cessation of hostilities. All the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers have been invited for the meeting. This will give a strong message in terms of national security,' a source familiar with the matter told ANI.
The meeting is being seen as a coordinated attempt to reinforce the NDA government's stance on national security and send a unified message after India's counter-terror operation across the border.
The meeting comes a day after the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital on the theme of 'Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat @2047'. (ANI)

HC quashes FIR against CM in BJP ‘defamation' case
Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court, on Friday, quashed the proceedings related to the First Information Report (FIR) issued against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, pending before a local court in Hyderabad. The case was registered against the CM based on a private complaint lodged by BJP General Secretary Kasam Venkateshwarlu, alleging that Mr. Revanth Reddy defamed BJP by stating that 'the party would do away with reservation to BCs, SCs and STs if it came to power'. The statement was made by the CM at a public meeting in Kothagudem during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, the complainant said. Challenging this, Mr. Revanth Reddy filed a criminal petition in the HC, which set aside the FIR.

Union I&B ministry hands over approval letter to MP CM for Akashvani studio in Ujjain

'In today's information age, broadcasting media has special importance along with other mass media. Akashvani has its own authenticity. In this regard, Ujjain is an important centre along with Indore in Malwa region where Akashvani studio setup was required. I had met Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan on July 8 on this issue,' the CM said. The Union government was requested to set up an Akashvani center and studio in Ujjain, which has now been approved, Yadav said. 'Till the completion of this process, short-term broadcasting has been arranged from Akashvani Indore six days a week. While other types of arrangements are being made in view of Simhastha: 2028, the achievement of getting Akashvani setup approved in Ujjain is important in the direction of expansion of official media,' he added. A well-equipped radio station was needed to encourage local artists of Ujjain and Malwa region, he said. 'Along with promoting art and culture, this will be a special outreach support for rural and tribal areas. Publicity of goverrnment schemes and expansion of community radio networks will prove useful. It will provide special assistance in reaching information about public welfare decisions to remote rural areas,' he said. Prasar Bharati under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved the proposal of the CM without delay, considering Ujjain as an important center of religious spiritual tourism in MP, the official said. 'Prasar Bharati has taken the initiative to increase broadcasting services using modern technology across India. Acclaimed academician Vasanthi Devi passes away at 87
V. Vasanthi Devi, former Vice Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and former chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women, passed away in Chennai on Friday following a sudden heart attack. She was 87. Prof. Vasanthi Devi was the first woman vice chancellor of a university in Tamil Nadu, a post that she held for two consecutive terms from 1992 to 1998. After her retirement, she was a member of the State Planning Commission (SPC) before being appointed as the Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women (TNSCW) in 2002. A high point in her long list of achievements was when she contested against AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa in the R.K. Nagar constituency in 2016 on the VCK symbol as the common candidate of the DMDK-led People's Welfare Front. Interestingly, the contest pitted her against a chief minister whose government appointed her as the Vice Chancellor, nominated her to the SPC and then to the TNSCW. Born in 1938 in Dindigul, Prof. Vasanthi Devi came from an illustrious family. She was the granddaughter of Vengal Chakkarai Chettiar, a freedom fighter, trade unionist and Christian theologist who was the president of the All India Trade Union Congress between 1954 and 1957. She came to Chennai (then Madras) in 1954 to join Queen Mary's College and later did her Masters from Presidency College. She did her PhD at University of the Philippines, Manila in 1980. Even while pursuing her academic career, she actively took up several causes – women's rights, child rights and, above all, quality education for all. Prof. Vasanthi Devi is survived by her son Narendra Subramanian, Professor of Political Science, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and daughter Ajantha Subramanian, author and anthropologist. Her body will be donated to the Kilpauk Medical College, the family said. 'She was a great intellectual but never lost touch with the grassroot,' said Sudha Ramalingam, Senior Advocate and a longtime companion. 'That connection made all the difference,' she added. She was active with Palli Kalvi Pathukappu Iyakkam (movement for saving school education) till her last days and strongly opposed the National Education Policy and advocated free and equitable education for children. Prof. Vasanthi Devi had also pushed for empowerment of School management committees. She firmly believed that schools, particularly in rural areas, must function with greater autonomy. She ensured that teachers and parents of underprivileged children were part of such committees, Ms. Ramalingam observed. CM's condolences In his condolence message, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said, 'She had been campaigning against the ill effects of the National Education Policy 2020, which Tamil Nadu has consistently opposed.' He also noted that she had voiced strong criticism of the Draft UGC Regulations, 2025. Mr. Stalin added that she had been vocal in opposing the role of religion in education. 'Her sudden demise is an irreparable loss to the education sector and to human rights-based activism.' In his condolence message, P. Shanmugam, CPI(M) State general secretary, said that Prof. Vasanthi Devi was a staunch supporter of the Left movement and always stood up for the rights of the common people.
