Karnataka placed first in country for highest wind power capacity
Karnataka was awarded first place in the country for achieving the highest wind power capacity addition of 1,331.48 MW in the financial year 2024-25.
State Energy Minister K J George received the award from Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, during the
Global Wind Day 2025
celebrations themed 'Pawan-Urja: Powering the Future of India', held in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Tamil Nadu and Gujarat followed Karnataka, adding 1,136.37 MW and 954.76 MW respectively, said a statement issued by the office of Minister George.
"This is not just a number-it is a reflection of Karnataka's unwavering commitment to clean energy," George said after receiving the award.
He said the proactive policies, implementation capabilities, and vision have positioned Karnataka as a leader in the renewable energy landscape.
The addition of 1,331 MW in a single year demonstrates the state's momentum in harnessing wind energy for a sustainable future, he explained.
According to him, Karnataka's total installed wind power capacity now stands at 7,351 MW and is a testament to its consistent leadership in renewable energy.
"This achievement is symbolic of our ability to execute large-scale projects and provide clean energy to industries, farmers, and households," the minister added.
George reaffirmed Karnataka's support of the national target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, of which 100 GW is projected from wind energy.
"Karnataka is preparing to implement 17 GW of wind power projects, with over 5 GW planned under the Renewable Energy Cluster Programme. Infrastructure is being strengthened through the establishment of more than 20 substations, 400 KV corridors, and a Renewable Energy Reserve Zone," he told the gathering.
George said that at the 2025 Global Investors Meet, the state signed Rs four lakh crore worth of investment agreements for renewable energy-nearly 40 per cent of the state's total investments, further demonstrating the confidence of global and domestic investors in Karnataka's green energy vision.
Speaking on the occasion, Joshi said he found it especially meaningful to celebrate Global Wind Day in Karnataka-the land of Hanuman, the original symbol of wind power.
Joshi was referring to the belief that Hampi in Karnataka was the ancient Kishkindha, the monkey kingdom of Ramayana era, where Hanuman was born.
The union minister underlined India's global standing as the fourth-largest wind power generator, with an installed capacity of 51.5 GW.
"The national goal is to reach 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, including 100 GW from wind power, of which 30 GW will come from offshore sources. Additionally, India exported 3.5 to 4 GW worth of wind turbines and modules in the current financial year," Joshi pointed out.
He also emphasised on the key challenges ahead, which are ensuring 24x7 power supply and grid stability through integration of wind, solar, and pumped storage systems.
Joshi also stressed upon prioritising competitive electricity tariffs and focusing on domestic manufacturing and exports to build India's green energy economy.
On the occasion, the union minister released the report 'Ramping up local manufacturing for wind turbines in India', which outlines a roadmap for boosting domestic wind turbine manufacturing capabilities.
Karnataka Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta told the audience that the state's installed wind power capacity now surpasses the combined capacity of countries like South Africa, Portugal, and New Zealand, and is comparable to that of Sweden and Australia.

While merchandise exports saw a slight dip from $39.59 billion to $38.73 billion, services exports rose notably, reaching $32.39 billion, up from $29.61 billion a year earlier. On the import front, India brought in goods and services worth $77.75 billion in May, marginally down from $78.55 billion last year. The trade deficit also improved, narrowing to $6.62 billion from the $9.35 billion in May 2024. How were the first two months of FY26? Previous AAP govt never gave credit to Centre: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
Thanking the Central government for supporting the Delhi government on infrastructure projects, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday hit out at the previous AAP government for not recognising its contribution earlier. Speaking to media persons after the launch of an exhibition to mark 11 years of the Modi Government's Service and 100 days of the Delhi Government, she said, 'I'm very happy that the Centre has completed 11 years and the Delhi government 100 days.' 'The way the double-engine government has started working in Delhi is commendable. The Centre had always worked for Delhi, but unfortunately, the previous government neither recognised their efforts nor gave them credit. But today, when we look at Delhi, we can see that we have received significant support from the Centre in developing excellent infrastructure," she said. 'Work is underway in all sectors to achieve the targets we have set for Delhi — whether it's air pollution, water, electricity, the Yamuna, or roads — and the people of Delhi will soon see the results,' she said. The exhibition was inaugurated by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in the presence of CM Gupta and Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva. Puri said, 'Despite the current global situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's success in elevating India's economy to the fourth position globally is a remarkable achievement in itself.' He said Delhi now has a government with a purpose, committed to serving its people. The targets set by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's government will prove to be significant achievements for Delhiites in the coming days, he said. Puri highlighted that in the past 11 years, the Modi government has implemented several public welfare schemes, which are widely known. The exhibition reflects all these accomplishments. He expressed his pleasure over Delhi's adoption of electric buses and hoped that, alongside electric vehicles, progress towards hydrogen energy will accelerate. He appreciated the current government's focus on cleaning the Yamuna and addressing landfill issues, noting that significant work is being done to reduce pollution, and visible results will be seen soon. The Union Minister thanked the Delhi BJP President, under whose leadership the BJP formed a government in Delhi after 27 years.

Anganwadis seek extension of welfare schemes to them
Anganwadi workers and Helpers staged a protest, on the call given by the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, an affiliate of the CITU, at the Gandhi statue near GVMC and placed a memorandum at the feet of the Mahatma, on Monday, demanding implementation of government welfare schemes. The other demands include: stop showing them as 'government employees' in the official record as they were only being paid a honorarium. Demanding an immediate response from the government to their demands, Union leader K. Venkata Lakshmi said that the wages of the Anganwadis were not hiked for the past six years though the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing. She said that the Anganwadis were living a hand-to-mouth existence with their wages remaining stagnant and prices spiralling. She sought that the government should recognise the services of the Anganwadi workers and helpers and extend the benefit of welfare schemes like Thalliki Vandanam, pensions, rice cards and housing to them. Union honorary secretary Mani, honorary advisor Brundavathi, district general secretary Devi, treasurer K. Padmavathi, district leaders Sridevi, Satyavathi, Begum, Sivalakshmi, Venkatalakshmi and Durga were among those who participated.
