Meghan Markle makes veiled dig at royals about 'truth' in explosive interview
Meghan Markle has opened up about how she would rewrite her public narrative given the chance in a brand new podcast inerview - and appeared to take aim at the royals
Meghan Markle has appeared to make a subtle dig at the Royal Family in her latest explosive podcast interview. The Duchess of Sussex was quizzed on her public image in an appearance on the Aspire by Emma Grede podcast, where she also discussed setting up her own As Ever lifestyle brand, as well as what drives her career goals.
At one point during the hour-and-a-half sit-down chat, Emma, the co-founder of jeans brand Good American with Khloe Kardashian, asks Meghan about how her fame makes her instantly recognisable.
She tells the Duchess: "I wanted to ask you a little bit about the public narrative, because when you sign up to be an actress, you know that people are going to start recognising you, they're going to start speaking to you on the street. But that's very different from what you have now.
And Meghan replies: "It is, Emma! It's very different" before laughing. Emma follows up with: "If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?"
To which Meghan says: "Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth." She adds: "You go through those chapters and you do a lot of work. You do a lot of selfwork and go, what's the why? It's happening for a reason." She adds: "My dear friend Serena, who I'm sure you know.. she says a lie can't live forever. Eight years is a long time but not forever."
Her comment about telling the truth comes after Meghan has previously accused the palace of "perpetuating falsehoods" about her during her time as a working royal. In her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, the chat show host asked her: "How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?"
And Meghan said: "I don't know how they could expect that, after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us."
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the podcast, Meghan b roke her silence on her controversial twerking video with a defiant response. The Duchess of Sussex raised eyebrows when she shared a clip of her and Prince Harry dancing around a hospital room in a bid to bring on labour while Meghan was in the later stages of pregnancy with Princess Lilibet.
The candid video, which runs for more than a minute, features the song 'Baby Mamma' and sees Harry beckoned in by Meghan as the pair dance together, with the duke appearing at the end with the hood of his grey hoodie up as he continues his dance moves.
Meghan, wearing a black maternity dress, cradles her large bump as she dances, as well as lifting her skirt above her knees, raising her hands in the air and wiggling low with her hands on her hips and legs.
The Duchess had not addressed the reaction to the now-viral clip - until now. Meghan tells Emma about being authentic to be successful, before asking the host: "Did you see my 'Baby Momma' dance?"
Emma, who is also a founding partner of Kim Kardashian's successful brand Skims, revealed: "We maybe watched it like 20 times yesterday, and I was like, is that, is that her? Is that Prince Harry there with the fingers…I was like, okay…good on Harry, let's go. But that's you, right? Like that's you in a way that we kind of haven't been able to see you before."
"And I did like a little secret cheer, cause I was like, well, that's what I kind of want to see from you. Like I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that 'I don't give a f***' kind of thing."
And breaking her silence on the clip, Meghan explained: "That was four years ago. So it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still a whole life — a real, authentic, fun life — that's happening behind the scenes."
"I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms."
The newpodcast interview comes after Meghan took to social media just yesterday to share a heartfelt Father's Day tribute to her husband, featuring rare never-before-seen footage of the couple's two children.
Meghan posted a video to Instagram showing Harry alongside Archie and Lilibet, set to the song Have It All by Jason Mraz. 'The best,' she captioned her post. 'Happy Father's Day to our favorite guy.'
The compilation showed photos and videos of Harry laughing, dancing and spending quality time with his children through the years. The Duchess made her social media return in early 2025 and regularly shares personal milestones and professional updates through her Instagram account.

Charles' nephew Peter Phillips is joined by his NHS nurse girlfriend Harriet Sperling in Ascot carriage procession for the first time as royals turn out in force
The Royal Family turned out in force for the first day of Royal Ascot on Tuesday as thousands of revellers kicked off the five-day meet in style. King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, both fans of racing, arrived in the famous carriage procession - which is marking its 200th anniversary this year - along the Berkshire racecourse. The monarch appeared in great spirits as he tipped his hat to the crowd and waved, while the Queen looked elegant in a grey dress and hat. Riding in the first carriage to the tune of the national anthem, they were joined by the Lady Sarah Keswick and Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud. Following right behind them was Princess Anne, Annabel Elliot and the Duke and Duchess of Wellington. And the royal procession was joined by a very special guest, as Peter Phillips was accompanied in the third carriage by his girlfriend Harriet Sperling after making their debut at Royal Ascot last year. Peter, who is King Charles's nephew, has been dating Harriet for over a year, after breaking up with his partner of three-years Lindsay Wallace. And the invitation to join the prestigious procession can be seen as a seal of approval from the King and a very high honour. In the final carriage were the Lord and Lady Vestey and Henry and Joanna Morton Jack. Queen Elizabeth II was a passionate owner and breeder of thoroughbreds and had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign. Charles and Camilla have taken on her stable of horses and enjoyed their first Royal Ascot winner in 2023 when their horse Desert Hero triumphed in the King George V Stakes. The monarch and his wife will be hoping for a winner in the Ascot Stakes when their horse Reaching High, trained by Willie Mullins, takes on other thoroughbreds. Mullins, reflecting on the thoroughbred's narrow defeat at Leopardstown racecourse in Ireland, said: 'I've been very happy since his first run, he did everything nicely at Leopardstown and if he could run a similar type of race at Ascot I would be very pleased.' Meanwhile, the royal procession has reached its 200th anniversary this year after it was first held in 1825 during the reign of King George IV. Royal Ascot, the jewel in the crown of the UK racing calendar, starts today with the Queen Anne Stakes and will run until Saturday. The prestigious festival was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 after she declared Ascot ideal for 'horses fit for kings' and has today become a major social event as well as a sporting attraction. Queen Camilla was given a kiss on the cheek as she was greeted by Mike Tindall Glamorous racegoers pulled out all the sartorial stops as they arrived at Royal Ascot in the sunshine today to kick off the annual celebration in style. As one of the highlights of the racing calendar, the prestigious festival at the Berkshire racecourse is just as famous for its fashion as it is for its races. This year, statement hats were the focal point of revellers' eye-popping looks as day one of the annual race meeting got underway. Dressed to impress, guests wore a variety of show-stopping headpieces as they descended on Ascot for a day of equestrian fun. Floral prints, modest hemlines and attention-grabbing hats were the order of the day for many, while others looked effortlessly elegant in crisp white dresses and sharp blazers. Whilst no dress code rules apply in the Windsor Enclosure, although the majority of guests choose to dress up regardless, a strict dress code operates across the Royal and Queen Anne Enclosures. Hats are a must in both Royal enclosures. Alternatively, a headpiece or 'hatinator' with a minimum base diameter of 4 inches (10cm) is also acceptable. Dresses must be knee length or longer and forget spaghetti straps - all shoulders must be a minimum width of 1 inch (2.5cm). Strapless, off-the-shoulder and one shoulder items are also banned. Shorts of any kind are not permitted. But having been included in the dress code since 1971, trouser suits remain a popular choice - although they mustn't be mismatched. From 2017 onwards, jumpsuits have also been accepted as Ascot worthy, while men must stick to black dress shoes worn with ankle socks, but there are no footwear specifications for women.

Meghan insists her personal Instagram is for fun, not for promoting her brand
Meghan said returning to social media at the start of the year was 'a great way to get my voice back', and she uses it for 'authentic' sharing such as her twerking video. 'It's my space and my channel for joy,' she added. The former Suits actress went back on Instagram in January, first with footage of her running around a beach and writing 2025 in the sand, and then a montage from her Netflix show With Love, Meghan. The duchess has made numerous posts about her jam-selling venture As Ever, mentioning her As Ever Instagram account, but has also released photos and videos of the Sussexes' life with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. On Lili's fourth birthday last week, Meghan shared footage of herself twerking in a labour room while heavily pregnant with her daughter. On the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, entrepreneur Grede asked Meghan about her return to social media, saying: 'Are you thinking about it in the way that so many of us do as also a business tool?' Meghan replied: 'Not for my personal account, no.' Grede challenged her, asking: 'Really?' Meghan said: 'For my personal account? …No.' Grede told her: 'Well that's the one we're all following.' Meghan replied and laughed: 'Well good…as long as you're following As Ever too. 'No, I think for me it was great way to get my voice back… It's my space and my channel for joy – that is the intention of my handle.' Meghan's personal account @Meghan has 3.8 million followers. Her @aseverofficial account has 847,000 followers, and is linked into her @Meghan bio, as is her ShopMy collection. The duchess said of her personal account: 'I think if part of it is just being able to authentically share in real time the things that are happening that I think someone might be able to last with, or enjoy or be inspired by.' She said she wanted to post in a way that was 'not overproduced'. Addressing the recent twerking video, which showed her dancing to the Baby Mama song in a bid to bring on labour with Lili, Meghan described it as a reminder of a 'real authentic fun life'. The duchess said it felt liberating to be back on social media where she can share things on her own terms. 'That wasn't yesterday. That was four years ago so it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still whole life, a real, authentic, fun life that's happening behind the scenes,' Meghan said. 'I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms.' She added: 'It feels liberating.'

Meghan says she would ‘ask people to tell the truth' to rewrite narrative
Meghan Markle stated in a recent podcast interview that if she could rewrite her public narrative, she would "ask people to tell the truth," alluding to a persistent "lie" from eight years ago. On Emma Grede's Aspire podcast, Markle did not specify the lie but referenced Serena Williams ' advice that "a lie can't live forever," noting that eight years is a long time but not forever. The Duchess of Sussex's comments echo past grievances, including her 2021 Oprah interview, where she claimed the Palace perpetuated falsehoods and a disagreement with Kate over flower girl dresses before her wedding. In the podcast, Markle reflected on personal growth and the reasons behind challenges, while also acknowledging the differences between her current life and her past as an actress. Markle addressed a viral video from four years ago, calling it a reminder of her "real, authentic, fun life" and expressed feeling liberated to share her life on her own terms on social media.
