Meghalaya Police to produce Sonam, other accused before court on Wednesday
Shillong, A special investigation team of the Meghalaya Police will produce Sonam Raghuvanshi and the other accused before a local court here on Wednesday, officials said.
Meghalaya Police, which codenamed the investigation as 'Operation Honeymoon', had collected evidence from the residences and other places frequented by the accused in Indore and Ghazipur on Tuesday, they said.
"We have collected additional evidence from the homes of Sonam and other accused involved in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh," a senior police officer told PTI.
The SIT has secured a six-day remand for the accused persons from Indore and three days for Sonam, the prime accused in the murder plot.
Sonam has arrived at LGBI Airport in Guwahati and will be taken to Shillong by Meghalaya Police, an airport official said.
She is scheduled to arrive here around midnight.
The SIT has been tasked with "reconstructing the events leading to the murder" and ensuring that it is a "water-tight case", the police officer added.
According to the SIT, Sonam took a local taxi to reach Guwahati before boarding a train.
Her accomplices – the three arrested accused – also took a tourist taxi to the station in Guwahati where they boarded a train to Indore.
"Sonam actually took a local taxi from Mawkdok and then hopped on a local train from Guwahati. She kept changing trains on her way to Indore," East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem told PTI.
Mawkdok is a tourist spot located near Sohrarim where the couple's rented scooter from Shillong was found abandoned.
Sonam, a 24-year-old woman from Indore, had allegedly orchestrated the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in the scenic town of Sohra in Meghalaya, state DGP I Nongrang said on Monday, revealing the details of the shocking crime that triggered a manhunt across three states.
Raja was killed by men allegedly hired by Sonam, who went 'missing' and surfaced in UP's Ghazipur where she surrendered at the Nandganj police station after the arrest of three assailants Akash Rajput , Vishal Singh Chauhan , and Raj Singh Kushwaha in overnight raids, police said.
The couple, who got married on May 11 in Indore and went to Meghalaya on their honeymoon, disappeared on May 23, hours after checking out of a homestay at Nongriat village, 20 km from where his body was found 10 days later on June 2.
Raja's relatives identified the body through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand. A woman's white shirt, a strip of medicine, a part of the LCD screen of a mobile phone, and a smartwatch were also seized at the spot.

3 minor girls raped in Goa's Calangute; guest house owner, manager among 4 held
Police have arrested the owner and the manager of a guest house in North Goa district where three minor girls were allegedly raped by two men, taking the number of those held in the case to four, officials said on Thursday. The girls, aged 11, 13 and 15 and residents of the same building, were allegedly raped by two men at the guest house located in Calangute area on June 7 and 8. The five had checked-in at the guest house together, they said. The two older girls are sisters. The girls' parents filed complaints on June 8 that they had gone missing a day earlier. Police formed multiple teams, and rescued them on the same day from the guest house while arresting Altaf Mujawar (19) and Om Naik (21), an official earlier said. Two more persons - guest house owner Rajat Chauhan (31) and manager Mansoor Peer (35) - were arrested on Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta told PTI on Thursday. They were arrested for accommodating the minor girls at the guest house without verification and consent of their parents, thus violating laws and abetting the crime, he said. All the four accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Goa Children's Act, the police said. "We are sealing the guest house and moving for cancellation of its license. The guest house management and owners will not be spared if they give room to a child in the absence of any family or relatives accompanying him or her," the SP said, cautioning all such facilities in the state.

NEW DELHI: Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore-based businessman murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, had been convinced by his wife Sonam to delay consummating the marriage until after a ritual offering at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati — a ruse investigators now say was part of a sinister plot to lure him to the Northeast and have him killed in a remote location. 'Sonam told Raja that they should first visit the Kamakhya Devi Temple and offer prayers before consummating the marriage,' a senior investigating officer told PTI on Wednesday. The couple got married in Indore on May 11 and travelled to the Northeast on May 20, reaching Meghalaya via Guwahati. They checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village on May 23 and then disappeared — prompting Raja's family to raise an alert. Ten days later, on June 2, Raja's body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in Sohra. The case has since unravelled as a premeditated murder allegedly orchestrated by Sonam in connivance with her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and three hired contract killers. Sonam, who initially went missing after the murder, resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and surrendered on June 9. Her boyfriend and the three hitmen — Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — were arrested soon after. According to investigators, Sonam pushed for the trip to Nongriat — a remote jungle area accessible only by trekking — hoping the murder would be easier to execute there. But the plan was delayed due to heavy tourist presence on May 22 and 23. 'They ultimately killed Raja near Weisawdong Falls and dumped his body into a gorge,' said the officer. Sonam Raghuvanshi, a 24-year-old woman, was arrested for her suspected role in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya – just days after their wedding. The case took several dramatic turns after she surrendered in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, days after Raja's body was recovered on June 2. This came after reports of a 'missing couple' surfaced from May 23, with concerned families accusing Meghalaya Police of failing to trace them. Sonam later showed up at a dhaba in Ghazipur, prompting Meghalaya Police to act swiftly and take her into custody. It was then that the chilling details of the case emerged – she had allegedly hired a group of men to kill her husband. The investigation saw coordinated efforts from police in three states – Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh – to unravel the mystery behind the so-called 'honeymoon murder'. Raja also talked to his mother. 1 pm: They reached the parking lot of Wei Sawdong Waterfalls. 1.30 pm: Sonam claimed she was tired and slowed down during the uphill trek, while Raja continued ahead with Vishal and Akash. Kurmi kept a watch from behind. Vishal struck Raja on the back of his head and as Raja turned, Vishal struck his forehead with a sharp weapon. 2.15 pm: Sonam shared a message on social media. 2.30 pm: Raja's body was thrown into the gorge at Riat Arliang. Sonam left alone on a scooter and the three others on another scooter. 3.30 pm: They reconvened, Sonam transferred ₹15,000 through UPI to one of them. June 9: Sonam surrendered to Nauganj police in Gazipur; Kurmi is arrested from Bina in MP.
