Free summer meals return for Bossier Schools
BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Bossier Schools have announced that they will be providing their students with nutritious weekly meals starting in June from four drive-through locations.
According to Bossier Schools, 'any child 18 years of age and younger is eligible for the summer meal boxes, regardless of income. Each box will contain seven breakfasts and lunches that are kid-friendly, meet nutritional guidelines, and are shelf stable, so they do not have to be refrigerated or heated.'
Bossier's 'Summer Superhero' program is being offered at no cost to families by the USDA Summer Food Service Program and administered by Bossier Schools' Child Nutrition department. Parents or guardians will need to complete this registration form for each child.
After registration, parents or students can pick up a summer meal box, starting June 3, every Tuesday from July 1 to July 29, between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., except on July 1.
Farm Shares: deliver fresh veggies, milk, eggs and more
Bossier Schools says that drive-through sites will be located at:
Benton Middle, 6136 LA-3, Benton, LA 71006
W.T. Lewis Elementary, 4701 Modica Lott Rd
Parkway High School, 2010 Colleen Drive
Princeton Elementary, 1895 Winfield Rd, Princeton
Bossier Schools notes for individuals picking up their summer superhero meal: look for signs in the car or bus line.
'Feeding children during the summer is a challenge for many families who depend on school meals,' said Karla Horton, Child Nutrition Program Supervisor at Bossier Schools. 'Last year was a huge success, and we are proud to be able to offer the summer meal box program again at no charge to ensure that children are properly nourished and fueled throughout the summer.'
Last summer, the Child Nutrition Department at Bossier Schools distributed half a million meals.

‘Beyond Camp' gives students a summer of discovery and support
CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—For more than twenty years, the McKinney-Vento Homeless Services Program in Caddo Parish has hosted Beyond Camp, a summer camp designed specifically for students experiencing homelessness. It offers them a season full of enrichment, exploration, and support. 'Beyond Camp is a federally funded program created to support students who are experiencing homelessness by giving them experiences and opportunities they might not otherwise have,' said Dr. Norcha Lacy, Supervisor of the McKinney-Vento Program for Caddo Parish Schools. Support children's hospitals through 'Spark Good' health campaign 'When we asked them what their favorite part was, they all said the field trips, because they went on one every day. They were able to experience things they wouldn't normally be able to experience in their normal lives, so we provide those experiences and opportunities for them during our camp,' Dr. Lacy shared. From hands-on learning to daily adventures, the camp allows children to learn, grow, and enjoy being kids during summer. Dr. Lacy encouraged others to form a strong team and reach out to community partners when bringing similar programs to their communities. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
