Free summer meals offered by local area schools
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg City Schools and the City of Roanoke will be participating in the USDA Summer Food Service Program for 2025 to give meals free of charge. Both Roanoke and Lynchburg school officials said meals are available to all children 'regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.' Roanoke City Schools Meals in the Roanoke Community will be served on a first-come come first first-served basis. Dates, times, and locations of meals can be found here. Lynchburg City Schools Children must be on-site while they consume their meals, according to school officials. Free summer meals return for Bossier Schools
BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Bossier Schools have announced that they will be providing their students with nutritious weekly meals starting in June from four drive-through locations. According to Bossier Schools, 'any child 18 years of age and younger is eligible for the summer meal boxes, regardless of income. Each box will contain seven breakfasts and lunches that are kid-friendly, meet nutritional guidelines, and are shelf stable, so they do not have to be refrigerated or heated.' Bossier's 'Summer Superhero' program is being offered at no cost to families by the USDA Summer Food Service Program and administered by Bossier Schools' Child Nutrition department. Parents or guardians will need to complete this registration form for each child. After registration, parents or students can pick up a summer meal box, starting June 3, every Tuesday from July 1 to July 29, between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., except on July 1. 'Feeding children during the summer is a challenge for many families who depend on school meals,' said Karla Horton, Child Nutrition Program Supervisor at Bossier Schools. 'Last year was a huge success, and we are proud to be able to offer the summer meal box program again at no charge to ensure that children are properly nourished and fueled throughout the summer.'
