Technology giants
and
will play a central role in the implementation of this ambitious project. These firms will provide state-of-the-art solutions for data protection, server management, and prevention of cyber attacks, helping to fortify the cooperative banking sector's digital defences.
The initiative is also being supported by NABARD, which will offer technical guidance, training, ongoing monitoring, and financial assistance. The overarching goal is to make cooperative banks across the state more secure, resilient, and trustworthy for their customers.
In addition to strengthening the technical framework, the Yogi government will launch a wide-reaching public awareness campaign focused on cyber safety.
Bank customers will be educated on how to avoid cyber fraud, the correct channels for reporting suspicious activity, and best practices for safe digital banking. These awareness efforts will be conducted through bank branches, gram panchayats, and digital platforms.
To support the rollout, the state government has allocated a special budget of ₹10 crore for the 2025–26 financial year. This funding will be used to build technical infrastructure, enhance server security, train staff, raise cyber awareness, and integrate banking services with the cloud system.

Corpn's OTP system fails to protect data

Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation's OTP-based system for birth and death certificate downloads continues to compromise data safety. The system permits certificate downloads when incorrect names or dates are entered, indicating a fundamental security weakness. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Additionally, the Namma Chennai app and the official website still permit downloads without any OTP verification, raising concerns about the comprehensive security of sensitive information. A new system from the Greater Chennai Corporation now requires mobile number registration and OTP verification to login to download birth and death certificates, a departure from the previous direct website access. Still, this system permits anyone to download any number of certificates from the webpage and the app, leaving the security measure without purpose. "Though the new system is a good step to stop the misuse of these sensitive documents, there are issues," said Sathish Galley, a resident of OMR. "When users register and log in with their details, they are led to entries for a specific date where multiple certificates are listed. From there, users must manually search for and download the certificate they are looking for." It is still possible for people to download certificates by providing false dates and names, which grants access to the certificates page, he said. "So unauthorized individuals could obtain sensitive information. This could lead to certificate duplication and misuse. Simply entering an OTP does not serve any real security purpose if access is still granted so easily," he said. Additionally, on the Namma Chennai app, certificates can still be downloaded without any OTP authentication. "Anyone with a phone can download birth and death certificates. The OTP is just an extra step with no real security benefit if it doesn't restrict access meaningfully. Why do we need an OTP for the Namma Chennai app when the device is already registered," said Sandhya Vedullapalli, a resident of Anna Nagar East. Despite multiple attempts by TOI, GCC officials were unavailable for comment.

Musk TAPs a third party -- The America Party -- even as he backs down in battle with Trump

Elon Musk TOI correspondent from Washington: Elon Musk teased America about forming a new political party even as he dialled down from his spat with MAGA President Donald Trump , deleting a series of posts linking him to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. The Musk climbdown came after Trump declined to engage in a phone call that mediators tried to initiate between the two, and instead threatened to cut off huge federal loans and subsidies to Musk's companies. "We'll take a look at everything. I look at everything. He's got a lot (of) money. He gets a lot of subsidy. So we'll take a look at that. Only if it's fair. Only if it's fair for him and for the country. I would certainly think about it. But it has to be fair,' Trump told reporters in an oblique hint that Musk could be spared punitive action. Trump also dismissed Musk's threat of forming a new political party based on a poll he ran on X, saying he was happy with his own poll numbers that showed support for him and his policies. In a sketchy poll on X, where Musk has more than 220m "followers" but which is boiling with fake accounts and bots, Musk asked, "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?" The question elicited only 5.6 million online "votes" from 100m views. More than 80 per cent respondents answered in the affirmative. "The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree This is fate," Musk exulted, suggesting the new entity could be called "America Party," although X is hardly representative of US voters or its demographics. Trump wasn't impressed with the online exercise, but he still dialled down from firing back, ostensibly because even a five to ten per cent shift in votes could overturn the GOP majority in both the Senate and Congress in the November 26 midterm elections. Musk also reposted analysis from a strawman whom he frequently cites. "History warns third parties fail. But Elon brings unprecedented resources, platform, and timing. Technology has democratized politics. "The America Party", in it's elegant simplicity, could finally give the 80% what they want: destruction of the swamp, not just new management," Musk frontman Mario Nawfal wrote. While efforts by interested parties to bring about a truce if not reunite the two warring men continue, for now they appear to be circling each other looking for weak spots. Given the low blows they have delivered at each other -- including innuendos about drug use and sex trafficking -- a re-union seems unlikely.

Mysuru civic body collects over ₹150 crore property tax in April-May 2025

MYSURU : The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) collected an impressive Rs 150 crore plus in property tax within the first two months of the 2025–26 financial year. The collection was boosted by a 5% rebate offered to property owners. This amount represents over 63.3% of the annual target of Rs 237 crore set for the current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The rebate of 5% is extended till June 30. The city has approximately 2.25 lakh registered properties, of which 1.95 lakh are revenue-generating. Spread across nine zones and 65 wards, these properties form the primary base for property tax collection, which remains MCC's single largest source of revenue alongside the water cess. In the past two fiscal years, MCC collected Rs 183.82 crore against a target of Rs 214.55 crore in 2023–24, and Rs 210.03 crore against a target of Rs 251.41 crore in 2024–25. This year, with the current momentum, MCC is on track to potentially exceed its target. Speaking to TOI, Shaikh Tanveer Asif , commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation, said: "It's a record collection in just two months." The success is a result of coordinated efforts across all nine zones. Crossing Rs 150 crore so early will significantly enhance our ability to provide improved civic amenities to Mysuru's citizens, he said. He also urged remaining property owners to take advantage of the 5% rebate, which remains available until the end of the month. "If you don't pay property tax, there is no way out. Corporation will collect tax, hence the people should not delay in paying property tax. They should make use of the five percent rebate and pay the tax at the earliest. The revenue from property tax plays a crucial role in taking up the projects within the corporation limits," the commissioner added. The MCC continues to prioritise efficient tax collection as the backbone of its financial planning and civic development strategy.
