AP aims for Guinness world record with 5 lakh strong yoga event in Vizag
Naidu noted that registrations and participation in yoga sessions held so far in various districts have been highly encouraging. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend the mega event in Visakhapatnam on June 21, the Chief Minister instructed officials to make meticulous arrangements and manage traffic without causing any inconvenience to the general public.
'There should be zero confusion or discomfort. Everyone must reach their allotted area without any hindrance,' he said. To build momentum, he announced two major state-wide initiatives ahead of Yoga Day. On June 7, yoga awareness rallies will be held in every village, and on June 14, yoga practice sessions will take place in one lakh locations, including all educational institutions and public spaces.
Ministers Nara Lokesh, Kandula Durgesh, Vangalapudi Anitha, Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, Satya Kumar Yadav, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta attended the review meeting. The officials briefed the Chief Minister about the programmes being held as part of 'Yoga Month' with daily themed events involving students, women, SHG members, and other sections of society. Naidu was informed that German hangers are being arranged in Visakhapatnam as backup venues in case of rain.
Special Chief Secretary Krishna Babu said 1.77 crore registrations have already been received against the State's 2 crore target. Certificates are being issued to those who practise yoga for three consecutive days, with a dedicated mobile app launched for generating digital certificates, he said.

PM marks World Environment Day with a Sindoor sapling
NEW DELHI: On World Environment Day Thursday, PM Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his residence and launched a special plantation drive in the capital as part of Centre's Aravalli Green Wall Project, which aims to reforest the 700-km mountain range that stretches from Delhi to Gujarat. The Sindoor sapling was gifted to him by a group of women during his recent visit to Kutch. The women, displaying remarkable courage, had helped Army rebuild an airfield during 1971 Indo-Pak war. Recalling his visit to Gujarat, the PM, in a post on X, said the Sindoor sapling represented for him bravery and inspirational role of women in the country. The PM planted a tree at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in the capital. CMs of all four Aravalli states, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, participated in the programme by planting trees in Aravalli districts falling under their respective jurisdiction.

Dibrugarh: In a landmark move for wildlife conservation, Tinsukia DC Swapneel Paul unveiled two ambitious initiatives on World Environment Day aimed at safeguarding the endangered Hoolock Gibbons in Barekuri village. The projects — a green corridor connecting Barekuri to a nearby wildlife sanctuary and a large-scale plantation of fruit-bearing trees — mark a significant step in ensuring the long-term survival of the primates, which have shared a unique bond with the villagers for generations. Barekuri, a small village in Tinsukia district, gained national fame after PM Narendra Modi highlighted its community-led conservation efforts in his Mann ki Baat address last August. The village, recently honoured with the Asom Gaurav Award, has become a beacon of hope for wildlife preservation, particularly the Hoolock Gibbon — India's only ape species, classified as endangered by the IUCN. Two years ago, Barekuri villagers raised alarms over rising gibbon deaths caused by electrocution from exposed power lines. Responding swiftly, the district administration insulated all bare transmission lines in the area, drastically reducing fatalities. The success of the project laid the foundation for Thurday's initiatives. The first initiative — green corridor development — aims to link Barekuri's gibbon population with those in the Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary. The second initiative — fruit-bearing tree plantation — addresses the gibbons' dietary needs sustainably. The district administration distributed 5,000 saplings of indigenous fruit trees, including Bhimkol (a local banana variety), jackfruit, and figs, to villagers. "Today marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to protect the Hoolock Gibbons. These initiatives will not only ensure the safety of our gibbon population but also create sustainable pathways for their long-term survival," DC Swapneel Paul said The launch event saw enthusiastic participation from students, conservationists, and villagers. In a poignant moment, DC Paul plucked a Bhimkol from a banana tree and offered it to a gibbon—a tradition villagers have followed for decades.
