Several users questioned how Mumbai, which hosted large crowds during Team India's World Cup celebrations, avoided a similar tragedy.
'Today I realised Mumbai handled a ten times bigger crowd than Bengaluru and no innocent life was lost," wrote one user, tagging the Mumbai Police with salute and folded hands emojis. 'We all should value life. No game celebration is bigger than our lives."
Another user echoed the sentiment, asking, 'How did Mumbai manage celebrations five times without any mishap, while Bengaluru couldn't handle even one?" The post blamed the Karnataka Congress government, district administration and police for the stampede, calling it a 'complete failure" in governance.

Amid the online outrage, the BJP criticised the state government, accusing them of hastily organising the event without adequate police deployment or planning. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday slammed the Karnataka government for alleged mismanagement of RCB's IPL victory parade, after a stampede-like situation near Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium left eleven people dead and dozens injured.
Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra said the event lacked adequate preparation and police deployment. 'The state government, without any preparedness, should not have organised this today," he told reporters. 'If you saw the World Cup celebrations in Mumbai, it was planned with proper arrangements. Lakhs celebrated in Bengaluru last night. Why hold another event so soon and without preparation?"
Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, echoed the criticism, drawing comparisons with other Indian cities. 'It is very saddening. Cities like Mumbai and Kolkata also celebrated their teams' victories, but what are we seeing here in Bengaluru?"
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed eleven deaths and thirty-three injuries. 'More than two to three lakh people came. No one expected this much crowd," he said during a press conference. He announced a magisterial inquiry and ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased.
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said the crowd overwhelmed security. 'They broke the gates. A lot of stampeding occurred," he said. 'We cancelled the procession from the airport and from Vidhana Soudha due to the overwhelming crowd and rain. Even at the stadium, we instructed the organisers to wind up the event in ten to fifteen minutes."
He said the venue's capacity was 35,000, but over two lakh people attended.

A day after the suspension of top police officials in connection with the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Karnataka government on Friday dismissed MLC K Govindaraj from the post of Political Secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The decision, though not officially linked to the incident, appears to be part of a broader damage control exercise by the government. An official notification issued by the Chief Minister's Office said, 'The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect.' Govindaraj, a key political aide to Siddaramaiah and a prominent figure in Karnataka's sports circles, was closely associated with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations that ended in tragedy, with 11 people dead and over 50 injured in a stampede outside the stadium. Although the government has not publicly cited reasons for the move, officials suggest that the decision followed growing criticism of Govindaraj's involvement in the event and the surfacing of a letter he wrote on June 4. In the letter, addressed to government departments, Govindaraj had requested 'arrangements for a big celebration for the RCB team in Bengaluru on Tuesday.' The letter has reportedly caused embarrassment to the Chief Minister's Office. Earlier in the day, Govindaraj distanced himself from the controversy, denying reports that he had advised the Chief Minister against a full-fledged victory parade from the airport to Vidhana Soudha. 'Who am I to advise the Chief Minister?' he said, adding, 'I would be the last person to advise anything on cricket, since I head the Karnataka Olympic Association.' A sports administrator and the current president of the Karnataka Olympic Association, Govindaraj's sacking follows closely on the heels of the abrupt resignation of LK Atheeq, the Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, earlier this week. Both exits have further fuelled speculation that the government is struggling to contain the fallout from the deadly crowd surge. On the same day, the government also transferred Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, Hemant M Nimbalkar. He, however, continues to hold charge as ADGP and Commissioner, Department of Information and Public Relations. Opposition parties criticised the government's recent actions, calling them reactive and politically motivated. Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra accused the Congress-led government of acting only under public and political pressure. 'The state government has acted only after coming under pressure… Action has been taken against RCB and the Karnataka Cricket Association. The Chief Minister suddenly suspended senior police officers, including the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, and five other officials,' Vijayendra said.

RCB event was state's call, KSCA tells Karnataka HC; gets interim relief from arrest in stampede FIR
BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stated before the Karnataka High Court, in its petition challenging the First Information Report (FIR) registered against its office bearers, that celebrating the RCB victory was, in fact, the call of the State Government as it felicitated the players at Vidhana Soudha in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and several cabinet ministers with all the secretariat and police higher-ups being present. The KSCA contended that the KSCA and M/s DNA met the Chief Minister and sought his support and blessings for the event and a program was organised on the steps of Vidhana Soudha. The Chief Secretary was guiding the event and the Government supported the event. The management of the gates of the Chinnaswamy stadium is the responsibility of RCB franchise, M/s DNA, who executes under the direction of the police, the KSCA claimed. The KSCA further stated that the incident was an accident due to sudden rush and surge and no intention of motive can be attributed, particularly to the petitioners, because the gate management and crowd management was not the responsibility of KSCA and it was of RCB, the organiser and the police. The KSCA Managing Committee only handles the venue of Chinnaswamy Stadium on rentals and it controls the cricket in Karnataka. It does not deal with the audience and spectators or fans. The order of suspension of police officers clearly blames the failure of the police department and, in turn, the police cannot victimise the petitioners for none of their faults. Now, the very complainant is suspended for dereliction of duties. However, the Chief Minister has issued a dictum for the arrest of the petitioners which is not their domain, the KSCA stated in its petition. 'There is absolutely no wrong that can be attributed to the petitioner committee or its office bearers as they stand aloof of any liabilities against the entire unfortunate incident. Despite having shown gratitude by extending independent compensation from its side, the KSCA and its office bearers are put to undeserved misery by way of naming them as accused of the offences', the KSCA narrated in the petition.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka HC shields state cricket body officials from arrest, denies relief to RCB marketing head
Officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) approached the Karnataka High Court on Friday in connection with the First Information Reports (FIR) filed against them following a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The incident, which took place following RCB's first IPL trophy, had left 11 people dead. A single-judge bench of Justice S R Krishna Kumar granted interim protection from arrest to senior KSCA officials, contingent on their cooperation with the police investigation. Nikhil Sosale, head of marketing at RCB, did not receive similar relief and his case is scheduled to be heard next week. Sosale was arrested Friday at Kempegowda International Airport, along with Sunil Mathew of DNA, an event management firm involved in the event. On Thursday, the Karnataka High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident after receiving an initial briefing from Advocate General Shashikiran Shetty. The court has directed the state to submit a status report by June 10, the next date of hearing. During Friday's proceedings, Sosale's legal team contested his arrest, arguing that it was politically motivated and carried out on the instructions of the Chief Minister, without a proper inquiry. The court declined to issue interim relief, stating that it would first hear arguments from the state. KSCA, in its petition, maintained that its role was limited to renting out the stadium and facilitating government permissions. Responsibility for ticketing and crowd control, it argued, lay with RCB, the event organizer, and law enforcement authorities. 'The incident was an accident due to sudden rush,' the petition stated, 'and no intention or motive can be attributed particularly to the petitioners (KSCA) because the gate management and crowd management… was of RCB, organiser and police. The KSCA Managing Committee… does not deal with the audience and spectators or fans.' KSCA also contended that police should have conducted a preliminary inquiry before filing the FIR, and questioned the delay in registering the case.
