From cutting-edge electric mobility to visionary concept designs, MAS 2025 promises something for every auto enthusiast and family.
One of its standout attractions is the 5km test track, where visitors can experience over 50 vehicles first hand.
Designed with simulated corners, gradients and ADAS sensor challenges, it offers a dynamic evaluation ground for modern automotive technology.
Adding excitement are curated zones such as the car modified showcase and motorsport showcase, car and bike gatherings, and the unique AutoFashion show.
Special programmes include a Women's Day for female motorists and an automotive education and career day to inspire the next generation of automotive professionals.
National Showcases
MAS 2025 serves as a national stage for Malaysia's homegrown carmakers to showcase their transition to electric mobility.
During the press day on Thursday, Perodua - the country's largest car company by sales and market share - showed the 'almost' production-ready version of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV).
Perodua teased the EV prototype in a half-cut form. The updated display is the final episode to the carmaker's EV journey, highlighting the interior as well as inner workings of the prototype.
Visitors can have a brief experience of a simulated drive of this prototype at MAS 2025.
"Our display highlights our Malaysia's capabilities in adopting assimilate EV technologies as our own," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Perodua also showcased two other displays: the X06E and an initiative with Emerald Horizon.
The X06E is a collaboration between Perodua and Politeknik Muadzam Shah to develop its own HEV/BEV working prototype.
The parctnership with Emerald Horizon, an Austrian-based company, is to develop an alternative energy source with the use of thorium, which is a rare earth element.
Proton previewed its second EV model, the e.MAS.
It is a five-door hatchback based on Geely Geome Xingyuan platform, and is targetted for launch later this year.
Proton's booth also features the brand's best-selling models, such as the popular X50, X70, X90 MHEV and the top-selling C-segment sedan, the S70.
Strong Chinese Contingent
Chery and its sub-brands such as Omoda and Jaecoo are taking up acres of space at MAEPS to display their current and new offerings.
Chery pulled the wraps off its newest compact SUV, the Tiggo Cross.
Earlier previewed as the Tiggo 4 in its home market, the SUV has been rebranded as Tiggo Cross for the Malaysian market.
Bookings for the B-segment Tiggo Cross are now underway with guaranteed delivery by August for the first 500 customers.
The Chery stand also saw the preview of Tiggo 7 CSH as part of the launch of the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) brand.
Tiggo 7 CSH brings the Super Hybrid System plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Jaecoo J7 PHEV to the mother brand's stable.
Chery's sub-brand iCAUR, meanwhile, made its official Malaysian debut at MAS 2025 on Thursday.
Malaysia becomes the first Asean market to introduce iCAUR, a brand borne from a strong collaboration between Chery and SmartMi Tech following its global launch at Auto Shanghai 2025 last month.
Positioning itself as a dedicated off-road new energy vehicle brand, iCAUR previewed three fully electric SUVs - the 03, 03T and V23 - ahead of their official launches.
The iCAUR 03 is leading the charge as the first model slated to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.
Jaecoo marked its first anniversary in Malaysia at MAS 2025 with a refreshed brand image and is hereafter known as Omoda/Jaecoo.
"Together with our sleek and high-performing vehicles, we are passionate about delivering a personalised lifestyle experience as Malaysia's challenger premium off-road SUV brand," said Omoda/Jaecoo vice president Emily Lek at the unveiling.
Omoda/Jaecoo teased the market with a sneak peek of Omoda C7 Neo Crossover. The C7 is expected to shake up the C-segment crossover segment here.
The brand's notable milestones include growing a respectable demand of over 12,000 registrations for its premium off-road internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid SUVs.
It has also established a strategic network of 45 authorised dealerships nationwide to support its growing customer base.
On the international stage, the Omoda/Jaecoo brand has built a presence in 42 countries and regions, established over 1,300 global showrooms and garnered a remarkable 500,000 global users.
The autoshow also saw the local debut of Zeekr 7X, a premium D-segment SUV built on Geely's cutting-edge 800V SEA platform.
Poised to challenge premium rivals like the Porsche Macan EV and BMW iX2, the Zeekr 7X combines performance, luxury and tech innovation.
At Jetour booth, the company officially launched Jetour VT9, joining the growing list of three-row SUVs aimed at large families and urban adventurers.
Positioned above the five-seater Jetour Dashing, the VT9 is a D-segment, seven-seater SUV that will take on established players like Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.
GWM Malaysia used MAS 2025 as the launchpad for GWM Tank 500.
The company said Tank 500 HEV marks a bold step forward in redefining the premium off-road SUV segment in Malaysia, combining luxury, advanced hybrid technology and exceptional all-terrain capability.
Also taking centre stage during the media day was the exclusive preview of the smart #5, alongside the official opening of bookings for the exclusive smart #1 Brabus limited edition.
The smart #5 marks a significant milestone for the brand, entering the premium mid-size electric SUV segment.

Proton sales up 6pct in May, marking third straight month of growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd sold 13,328 vehicles in May, comprising domestic and export sales as well as units from its smart and Proton ranges. In a statement today, the national carmaker said the figure represents a 6.1 per cent increase from May 2024 and marks the third straight month of sales growth. For the March-to-May period, year-on-year (YoY) sales rose 10 per cent, bringing year-to-date (YTD) sales to 61,087 units. Proton estimates a 19.2 per cent market share for May, based on a projected total industry volume (TIV) of 69,495 units. The YTD market share is also forecast at 19.2 per cent. According to Proton, individual volume drivers this year include the Proton X50 and Proton X70, which have sold strongly since the introduction of their updated variants last year. Export sales have also been strong, now 36.6 per cent ahead of 2024, while the Proton 7 led EV sales for a fifth consecutive month in May while breaking through the 900-unit sales barrier for the very first time. Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said after a slow start to 2025, sales of Proton vehicles have shown an upward trend over the last three months. He added that this is a direct result of the group's promotion efforts as well as the strong attraction car buyers have to our range that offers stylish, technology driven products sold via an industry leading network of 3S/4S outlets. "Going into the second half of 2025, Proton is confident we can maintain our momentum as we initiate a flurry of events and model introductions in line with the next phase of our overall business plan," he said. With new vehicle sales in Malaysia nearing saturation, Proton said it is ramping up efforts to strengthen its presence in overseas markets. It added that 2025 has seen multiple events promoting its overseas presence, kicking off with the launch of the CKD Proton Saga in LHD form for the Egyptian market and two 7 focussed activities in Nepal and Singapore. The carmaker noted that June will see the introduction of the company's EV in Trinidad & Tobago, its second export market after Nepal, which is expected to increase its numbers beyond the 233 units exported thus far. The top export model is the Proton Saga with 710 units followed by the Proton X50, which has grown its YTD export sales by 360 per cent to 694 units. "The increased focus placed on growing export sales is paying short term dividends as we see an immediate uptick in volume. "Penetrating and being successful in overseas markets requires long-term commitment and Proton is confident we can achieve our goals with a structured plan to manage our expansion," Li Chunrong said.

Perodua files trademark for ‘QV-E' name and logo, hints at debut of first EV by end 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Perodua has recently filed a trademark application for the QV-E name and logo with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). Given the details included in the MyIPO listings, it seems quite possible that QV-E might be the name of Perodua's first EV. First noted by local automotive site Funtasticko, the application for the QV-E name and logo was filed on 21 March 2025 under two classifications. One of them being class 12, which covers electric cars as well as EVs with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), EV charging connector types, EV battery, and EV's electric motor. Perodua has also filed its application for class 37, which includes EV charging stations, EV home chargers, and EV portable chargers. When we went through MyIPO database earlier today, the application status for both the name and logo was noted as 'Under Formality Validation'. As captured on the MyIPO database on May 30, 2025. Perodua has filed the QV-E name before Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that Perodua has submitted the QV-E name to MyIPO. Back in late June 2024, the national automaker submitted the name but with a different arrangement – Qve – to the agency alongside Ace and Pacer. As captured on the MyIPO database on May 30, 2025. Just like QV-E, all three names were filed under classes 12 and 37. However, only Ace has been officially trademarked, as noted in the MyIPO Journal batch 43/2024, which was published on 7 November last year. Even then, the Ace trademark only applies to class 37 but not class 12. At the same time, our search also showed that Perodua has yet to file a logo for the Ace name. What do we know about the Perodua EV so far? During the recent Malaysia Autoshow 2025, Perodua has unveiled the latest prototype of its upcoming EV albeit in a half-cut form. Nevertheless, the President and CEO of Perodua, Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said that this prototype is very close to the production version. He also revealed that the Perodua EV is currently in the final stage of homologation, and pilot production is expected to take place between September and October. The company is confident that the EV will be ready to be launched by the end of 2025. For now, the specs remained the same as per what Perodua has revealed before. This includes an LFP battery from CATL with 50kWh-ish of capacity, 400km range (NEDC), and 0-100km/h timing of under 7 seconds. It has also been mentioned that the EV takes around 8 hours to be fully charged via AC charging. As for DC charging, 30 minutes is enough to get the battery to go from 30 per cent to 80 per cent. Zainal also said that the upcoming Perodua EV can hit a top speed of 165km/h, while it will also feature ADAS L2 capability and is designed to meet the 5-star ANCAP classification. As you can see from the images, the new EV will also feature a fastback design, which is skewed towards the lower B-segment. The CEO has also confirmed that the Perodua EV will indeed be offered through a battery leasing service. This will allow the company to offer the new EV for under RM80,000. Customers can also purchase the car by cash or bank loan, and then sign up for the battery leasing separately. They can also choose to purchase both the EV and the battery outright, although details regarding the purchase and leasing arrangements are still under discussion. However, the company will not be implementing battery swapping service at this juncture. That being said, Zainal pointed out that customers can have the high-voltage battery within the Perodua EV changed in just 30 minutes at the service centre if there is any issue with it. Perodua EV as envisioned by automotive artist Theottle, based on the latest prototype. Zainal also pointed out that customers who purchase the battery outright have to pay for a new replacement battery themselves, if needed, once the eight-year warranty is over. On the other hand, customers who signed up for the leasing service will get the battery replacement for free as long as they retain the subscription. — SoyaCincau
