NJ Transit nixes train, bus service to Shakira concerts at MetLife over looming strike
NJ Transit typically brings passengers whenever, wherever — but they may be out luck if they're heading to a pair of upcoming Shakira shows at MetLife Stadium.
The public transit agency announced it was nixing bus and rail service to the arena Thursday and Friday due to a potential strike planned by NJ Transit engineers by the end of the week.

'Due to the potential rail service stoppage, NJ TRANSIT will not be operating train or bus service to MetLife Stadium for the Shakira concerts on May 15th and 16th. Visit metlifestadium.com for more information & travel options,' the company wrote on social media Monday afternoon.
If the strike happens, it would be the first for the Garden State-owned bus and rail service since 1983.

Thursday's concert is sold out, meaning the strikes could impact thousands of the stadium's 82,500 capacity crowd depending how many were planning on taking public transit.

NJ Transit reps and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers union are set to meet in Washington Monday, where the sides will resume mediation in an attempt to avoid a work stoppage, according to NBC News.
Around 800,000 passengers take NJ Transit buses and trains on a typical day, according to the company, translating to about 270 million riders annually.

Depending on how long a strike drags on, it could also impact Beyoncé's MetLife tour dates. She's set to play five shows at the Meadowlands, beginning May 22.

In deals struck in 2008 and 2011, Lab Rat, Rowe's production banner, secured ratings bonuses for linear airings of the show on Discovery-owned networks, a say in certain areas of distribution and the right to share in profits from various third party deals, according to the complaint. Tuesday's lawsuit isn't the first time the two sides clashed over payments. In 2015, Rowe conducted an audit that led to a five-year mediation. The result was a settlement and new participation agreement that, among other things, compensated him for airings of the show on streaming platforms on top of the provisions he secured in prior deals. This dispute revolves around the licensing of Dirty Jobs as video-on-demand content to third parties that carry Discovery's linear feed, which include Hulu + LiveTV, DirectTv and YouTubeTV. Rowe says that he hasn't seen payments for such deals, of which he's entitled to half of adjusted gross revenues. Contrary to the network's position that 'video-on-demand airings of Dirty Jobs on a multiprogram distributor or virtual multiprogram distributor are part of a [Discovery] linear service, the unambiguous definition' of the terms 'does not include on-demand access,' writes Randall Rasey, a lawyer for Rowe, in the complaint. The lawsuit also takes issue with the network calculating royalties for licensures of the show to Max and Discovery+ based on minutes viewed. 'Not only is this recently concocted interpretation by Discovery inconsistent with the Agreement, but Discovery has never accounted for such video-on-demand viewings,' states the complaint. In a statement, a Discovery Network spokesperson said, 'We value our long-standing relationship with Rowe and have fulfilled our contractual obligations for royalty payments. We dispute the allegations and will defend ourselves against these claims.' Gabby Thomas calls out ‘weirdo' heckler over ‘bragging' social media post
Olympic track and field gold medalist Gabby Thomas put a male spectator on blast after she said he yelled personal insults at her and followed her around at the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia on Sunday. Thomas explained that she publicly called out the man because she saw him 'bragging' about heckling her on social media. 'I made Gabby lose by heckling her.
