Third charged in fatal shooting of Sydney grandmother

A third person has been charged with the murder of Sydney grandmother Kim Duncan who was killed after her home was shot up in an allegedly targeted shooting. Police believe Ms Duncan was an innocent bystander. Police allege she was killed after three men fired several shots in the direction of a house in Dickens Rd, Ambarvale in southwestern Sydney about 11pm on Monday April 14. The 65-year-old was shot in the leg and died at the scene while being worked on by paramedics. Her 34-year-old son and a 21-year-old woman, who were also inside the house, were uninjured. On Tuesday, NSW Police executed a search warrant at a house in Ashcroft, arresting a 34-year-old man before charging him on Wednesday with Ms Duncan's murder. Grandmother Kim Duncan was fatally shot on Monday, April 14. Picture: Facebook He is the third man to be charged with her murder and was expected to appear in Parramatta Court on Wednesday. Manase Fakahau, 19, and Jesse Evans, 34, were both arrested last week and charged with murder. At their initial court appearance, their solicitor Sarah Black sought for their names and family's addresses to be suppressed from media reporting. Ms Black argued the allegations were 'very serious' in nature, and any media reporting would put the 'young men who are already going into a custodial environment' and their families at risk. An interim suppression order was made in part to prevent reporting of the home addresses of the families involved, however, the application to have their names suppressed was denied. They did not apply for bail and the matter was adjourned until September 10. Mr Evans and Mr Fakahau were taken into custody before being with Ms Duncan's murder. Picture: NewsWire Handout Speaking to the media at the time of the shooting, Superintendent Grant Healey said police believed Ms Duncan was not the intended target of the shooting. 'It was the person that resided at the house she was shot at, and we believe the people that were involved had a grudge, an argument, or a beef with somebody who lived in that location,' he said. Superintendent Healey said the family was 'very, very upset'. 'It's tragic … your mother and grandmother to your children has been shot by cowards that stood out the front of the house,' Superintendent Healey said. 'Somebody coming up to a house and putting shots off is totally reckless, and the consequences are catastrophic.' NSW Police Superintendent Grant Healey said police did not believe Ms Duncan was the intended target. Picture:NewsWire/ Monique Harmer Investigations under Strike Force Apslawn are ongoing and NSW Police have urged anyone with dashcam or CCTV of the incident to contact them. The second 34-year-old man was arrested after detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on Parsons Street, Ashcroft about 4pm on Tuesday. Police also arrested another man during the search after seizing 11.3kg of cannabis, $91,600 in cash, 31 mobile phones, a laptop and a knuckle duster. A 40-year-old man was charged with recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime, supplying a prohibited drug in an indictable but non-commercial quantity, and possessing suspected stolen goods.
