Watch: Overlooked India Star Takes Six-Wicket Haul In 1st Innings Of County Championship Match
While the collective eyes of Indian fans are focused on the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy where the Shubman Gill-led team is vying to draw parity with England and end the tour on a high, overlooked legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal has quietly recorded the career-best figures of his county career.
Chahal is representing Northamptonshire in the ongoing County Championship Division Two. Against Derbyshire, he recorded bowling figures of 6/118 from 33.2 overs as the visitors' first innings ended on 377 after they opted to bat first at the County Ground.
Derbyshire made a cautious start before losing opener Caleb Jewell (16 off 30). It was followed by a 48-run partnership between Luis Reece and Harry Came for the second wicket.
Chahal broke the growing stand with a double-wicket over in which he accounted for Came (17 off 30) and Reece (39 off 90). The 34-year-old leggie landed another blow in his following over and soon Derbyshire had lost half their side for 89 runs.
A century from Martin Andersson (105 off 148) and useful contributions from the lower order helped Derbyshire to recover and post a good total.
Chahal wiped off the tail with the scalps of Zak Chappell (32 off 66), Ben Aitchison (45 off 54) and Blair Tickner (11 off 15) to finish with a six-fer.
Chahal's County Season So Far
Chahal made a roaring comeback after a below-par outing in Northwood where he remained wicketless against Middlesex while delivering 43 overs for 175 runs as Northamptonshire suffered an innings defeat.
In his first match of the season, he was wicketless in the first innings against Kent at Canterbury before picking up a four-wicket haul in the second as the contest ended in a draw.
The India star has a deal with Northamptonshire till the end of 2025 season and will also represent them in their one-day cup campaigns. He last played for India in 2023 but was part of their 2024 T20 World Cup winning squad.

Lakshya Sen, Tharun Mannepalli fall short At semi-final stage In Macau Open
India's campaign at the Macau Open Super 300 badminton tournament came to an end on Saturday after Lakshya Sen and Tharun Mannepalli suffered semifinal defeats in their respective men's singles matches. Lakshya, a 2021 world championship bronze medallist and reigning Commonwealth Games champion, couldn't match the pace and precision of Indonesia's Alwi Farhan, going down 16-21 9-21 in a 39-minute contest to continue his patchy run that has seen him struggle with form and fitness this season. In the other semifinal, India's Tharun Mannepalli went down fighting against Malaysia's Justin Hoh in a gripping three-game contest that lasted an hour and 21 minutes. The 23-year-old Mannepalli, ranked 47th in the world, squandered a strong start to lose 21-19 16-21 16-21 in a match marked by fluctuating momentum and a flurry of unforced errors. Lakshya vs Farhan It has been a tough season for world number 17 Lakshya, who has had seven first-round exits and two second-round ousters this season. The 23-year-old, who has been affected by shoulder, back and ankle issues this season, had entered the tournament to gain some confidence before heading to the World Championships in Paris. However, it was Farhan, the 2023 World Junior Champion and a member of Indonesia's bronze-medal-winning Sudirman Cup squad, who produced a dominating performance to knock him out of the tournament. World number 25 Farhan recovered from a 0-3 start to lead 11-7 at the first break in the opening game. He dictated the pace of rallies with precise drops and powerful smashes, catching the Indian off-guard on multiple occasions. Though Lakshya produced some eye-catching strokes, he lacked consistency, often erring in execution at crucial moments. A backhand winner brought him to 13-19, but a serve into the net handed Farhan five game points, and the Indonesian converted when Lakshya sent one long. The second game followed a similar pattern. With Farhan leading 5-4, a 38-shot rally ended with a sharp cross smash from the Indonesian, who then extended his lead to 11-5 at the interval. Lakshya looked tentative and was unable to counter Farhan's relentless pressure at the net and forecourt. Farhan raced to a 14-6 lead with another cross-court smash. Lakshya sent one wide and then found the net, allowing Farhan to grab 12 match points. The Indonesian missed one before sealing the match on the next opportunity. Mannepalli vs Justin Mannepalli started well, racing to an 11-6 lead in the opener. A pair of wide returns helped him build a 17-12 cushion before Justin clawed back to level at 18-all. After wasting one game point, Mannepalli closed it with a straight return. In the second game, Justin led 8-6 after capitalising on Mannepalli's errors. Though the Indian levelled at 13-13, a run of mistakes gave Justin a 17-14 lead and eventually the game. In the decider, Mannepalli again held a 6-3 lead before Justin turned the tables. The Indian reduced the deficit to 13-16 but faltered under pressure, and a clever drop from the Malaysian sealed the match.

Son Heung-Min to bid farewell to EPL club Tottenham after ten-year spell
After 10 years with Tottenham Hotspur, captain Son Heung-min announced on Saturday that he plans to leave the English Premier League club. At a media conference in Seoul, Son said his decision to leave the Spurs was 'the most difficult of his career and said the club was supporting him as he looks to move on to another team. Spurs will face Newcastle United in a preseason friendly on Sunday in Seoul in what could the final match of Son's time at Spurs. Before we start the press conference, I just want to share the information that I have decided to leave this club in this summer, Son said. Respectfully, this club is helping me to my decisions. So I just wanted to share this information before we start the conference. I came to North London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment. He continued his tribute by thanking Tottenham fans. So I just want to say thank you to all of the Spurs fans that gave me so much love and felt like it was my home, he said. It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made. So I hope the goodbye is always also in a good timing you know. But I think it's the right time to make this decision." Son was asked in Korean on his future playing plans, and he replied: 'I don't think I have an answer yet. He also confirmed in Korean that he would play for South Korea at the World Cup next year in North America. In May, Son finally won his first title in Europe as Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final. I felt the pressure. I wanted it so badly, Son said after that match. The last seven days, I was dreaming about this game every single day. It finally happened, and I can sleep easy now. The 33-year-old Son has been one of the biggest stars of the Premier League, scoring 173 goals in 454 competitive appearances for Tottenham. He was made captain in 2023 by former head coach Ange Postecoglou and helped the club lift its Europa League title, a first trophy since 2008. Son added that the team's recent success was a factor: Winning the Europa League made me feel I had achieved everything I could here. I need a new environment for a fresh challenge. Son has been heavily linked with a move to the United States and there is reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Thomas Frank succeeded Postecoglou in June and the Danish coach paid tribute to Son on Saturday. He is truly a Spurs legend in every aspect, Frank said. One of the best players to ever play in the Premier League, in my opinion, as a winger. I think it is probably the perfect timing, going out on a high.

South Korea and Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min hinted at retirement after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while announcing his exit from Tottenham Hotspur before the 2025-26 season, on Friday. The 33-year-old won the Europa League with Spurs last season, their first major trophy in 17 years, and has spent a decade at the Premier League side, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances. 'When I first arrived at Tottenham 10 years ago, I was a young boy who couldn't even speak English well. I'm leaving now as a man. I believe timing is crucial in saying goodbye, and now feels like the right time,' Son said. RELATED: Son Heung-Min brings Europa League trophy to South Korea Moreover, he stressed that international football will remain of paramount importance for him in the twilight of his career. 'The World Cup is the most important. It could be my last World Cup, so it's crucial that I give it my all. Also important is finding a place where I can play football happily. That's what I'm contemplating,' he added. Son made his senior international debut against Syria before the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and has 51 international goals, the second-highest in South Korean football, after Cha Bum-kun. Though he has won the Olympic gold medal with the under-23 side at the 2018 Asian Games, he has failed to win a major international trophy with the senior team so far — one that he will look to change in the World Cup next year.
